Smart guy asked me to name the bad decisions EPA has made under Trump....PART ONE

So let's begin at the beginning, which is always a good place to start, unless of course you want to begin at the end and by then all hell has broken loose and nobody has time to blame anyone because everyone is simply trying to survive the chaos.

The EPA stands for Environmental Protection Agency and was established as an independent agency by Richard M. Nixon in 1970.  It is not part of the cabinet but the head of the EPA is generally given a cabinet post.

There are 14,172 people who work for the EPA and their budget is $8.1 billion.

The debate regarding the value of the EPA can be summarized with these two groups facing off.

Those who believe the EPA is helping to create a healthier and safer world
vs
Those who believe the agency commits government overreach and adds unnecessary regulations on businesses and property owners.

IF YOU STAND WITH THE SECOND GROUP THEN I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT NOTHING I SAY IN THIS ARTICLE WILL HAVE ANY AFFECT ON YOU BECAUSE YOU SUPPORT BUSINESS OVER THE HEALTH AND WELFARE OF THE HUMAN RACE.

Does that seem like a harsh statement?  I realize that those who stand in the second group have to protect corporate thinking and basic business fundamentals because of course that's the American way....and God knows those people are needed to protect the American way .

The problem is there isn't a problem until there's a problem.

Corporate America has proven that fixing problems, that they created, should be taken care of by the Government.....

Simply consider the Superfund sites across this great nation.






The red dots are sites that businesses have created that are waiting for someone else to clean up.
(Some of those dots are government spots created by the military but most are business ventures)

BUT LETS GET BACK TO THE BEGINNING

In the 60's there were indications that human activity could possibly cause problems to the environment that would affect the health of future generations.  Pesticides were the focus in those days and Congress responded by creating certain acts that were intended to protect the general public.

The NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ACT OF 1969 basically set the stage for the creation of the EPA and in 1970 President Nixon created the agency.

SIDEBAR/  In my humble opinion this might be Richard Nixon's greatest accomplishment.

In the beginning the agency simply helped create goals and standards for environmental issues but very quickly acts and amendments were passed by Congress and thus the EPA's regulatory
authority was established.

TO SEE HOW THE RECENT DECISIONS BY THE TRUMP EPA HAVE AFFECTED OUR FUTURE IT'S IMPORTANT TO SHOW SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT EXISTED OVER THE LAST 60 YEARS.....OR LIKE I REFER TO IT AS

THE TIME WHEN BUSINESS WAS ALLOWED TO DO WHATEVER THEY FUCK THEY WANTED

And which now, once more, is becoming the rally cry of the Trump administration.

(I will also list some of the important decisions made by the EPA to counterbalance the problems)

The dumping of cyanide into the Cuyahoga River in Ohio by 12 different companies was one of the first confrontations undertaken by the EPA in 1970.....as a result
In 1972 
Congress created the Federal Water Pollution Control Act which became known as the CLEAN WATER ACT.

In 1972 the EPA was required to measure every pesticide's risks against potential benefits.

In 1976 Congress passed the TOXIC SUBSTANCE CONTROL ACT.  This act gave the EPA
authority to gather information on chemicals and require producers to test them.....with focus on PCB's.  The EPA then created the NATIONAL INVENTORY listing of chemicals.  In that same year the EPA was tasked with setting national goals for waste disposal, conserving energy and natural resources, reducing waste, and ensuring environmentally sound management of waste.

PLEASE NOTE THAT BEFORE 1972 POLLUTING THE RIVERS OF AMERICA WAS COMMON PRACTICE DUE TO THE SIMPLE FACT THAT MOST INDUSTRIAL PLANTS WERE BUILT NEXT TO RIVERS SO THAT WASTE PRODUCT COULD BE EASILY DUMPED.

In 1980 Congress passed the COMPREHENSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE, COMPENSATION and LIABILITY ACT.....better known as
"SUPERFUND"
This act was created in order to give the EPA authority to find parties responsible for sites contaminated by previous hazardous waste disposal and establish a funding mechanism for assessment and cleanup.

In 1986 when Chernobyl imploded the EPA was responsible for identifying any potential problems for the United States. As a response that year Congress created the EMERGENCY PLANNING and COMMUNITY RIGHT-TO-KNOW ACT which authorized the EPA to gather data on toxic chemicals and SHARE the information with the public.

PLEASE NOTE ONCE MORE:
BEFORE THE EPA....BIG BUSINESS WAS ALLOWED TO DO WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANTED AND THE PHRASE  "ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION" WAS NON-EXISTENT.

THIS ISSUE WAS NOT A DEMOCRATIC VS REPUBLICAN ISSUE as noted in 1988 when George H. Bush was extremely vocal about environmental issues....and even appointed an environmentalist, William K. Reilly as his Administrator.

I believe that when Newt Gingrich introduced his CONTRACT WITH AMERICA in 1994 and the word environment was not mentioned that the issue became a non issue with the Republican party while at the same time the Democratic party became the environmentally aware party.

How opposite's don't really attract

Watching Michael Cohen at the hearing on Wednesday was extremely compelling TV.

The Republicans only echoed Trump's campaign jargon....and never asked Mr. Cohen anything important.

The Democrats voiced their own agenda's and asked every detailed question possible.

A few simple facts......

the man was Donald Trump's personal lawyer for 10 years

Donny baby is a horrible judge of character 

this guy just walked all over President Biff's legacy 

 Donald J. Trump is the ultimate con man and he made Michael Cohen into the man he is today.

A guy on his way to prison........

The one thing I didn't know is that Michael was a Democrat while working for the Republican finance committee and they asked him to switch parties because it didn't look right.

Boy, does that seem pretty small potatoes compared to the stew he's in today.

But please note.....

The biggest liar in this entire story is the guy who looks like a bad ad for Florida vacations.

The Experience might count and then again....

Wrapping up the greatest defensive Super Bowl in history.

Facing the greatest team in Super Bowl history with the most successful coach and greatest quarterback could prove worthwhile in the long run IF they (Rams) can get back to the last game once more.

That's not a given by any means.

It is not an easy task to play in the last game of the season, no matter what the sport might be.

Of course I thought that the Rams were good enough to win but that thought has nothing to do with the actual reality of how the event concluded.

It was a great season and once more Boston takes down LA.

NOW ON TO MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES...but a lot less fun.

The race for the White House in 2020 has begun.

The current resident started campaigning last week.

The Democrats are starting to line up and currently I think 5 women have announced....and 3 men.

I'm still hoping that Mr. Biden realizes how much he is needed.

Each of the women has the talent but only one really has the experience and she will have to somehow overcome an issue dealing with ancestry.....

The raised voice argument I had today with my brother on the second hole of our weekly golf outing had to do with him calling Senator Warren a liar on her application to attend a certain college.  I countered with "the guy in the White House has lied 3000 times in two years and that's not an issue for you?"  He then proceeded to bring up Clinton lying about Monica.

Each of those two people are responsible for two lies....and yet that supersedes the current President of the United States telling a lie almost every time he talks.

For eight years I had to listen to my brother call Obama an asshole because of the increased deficit and when I ask him about the current deficit numbers and how a real asshole now runs our country and damages American's reputation throughout the world AND WHY THAT'S NOT AN ISSUE WITH HIM he answers by bringing up Clinton (Both Mr. and Mrs.)

BLINDERS ARE NECESSARY FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN OUR COUNTRY.

I'm really looking forward to issues being addressed by people who know how to think and speak.

Dear St. Louis football fans

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team based in Los Angeles, California, which competes in the National Football League's NFC West division. The franchise has won three NFL championships, and is the only one to win championships representing three different cities (Cleveland in 1945, Los Angeles in 1951, and St. Louis in 1999). The Rams play their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.









One thing always remains the same......the Ram helmet might change colors but it still is always a Ram design. 

Obviously there are very few fans left in Cleveland but imagine the old guy who was a Ram fan as a young man when they won the Championship in 1945 AND THEN MOVED TO LOS ANGELES THE NEXT YEAR.

THAT KID WAS CRUSHED......

But The Cleveland Browns were born and legends were made and the people of Cleveland never looked back.....except for that one old man who remembers when he was 8 and the Cleveland Rams were champs. Then 4 years later the Rams were champs again and that kid was now 12 and he got pumped watching the Ram helmet travel to the top of the game.  Then there was a long pause and 49 years later he was 61 and the Rams were once more the best team in football.  Now that dude is 80 years old and although he doesn't feel 80 he picks up the sports section of the Cleveland Gazette (?) and sees the Ram helmet getting ready to play in the 53 Super Bowl.

ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT GUY IS ROOTING FOR THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS?

I DON'T THINK SO

And for you....the St. Louis football fan, I simply say.....hey the Rams didn't start in St. Louis and they didn't start in Los Angeles but currently they get their mail in Los Angeles and they still wear the Ram Helmet.

GET OVER IT.

I was 5 years old when they won their last championship in LA but I loved watching them win the Super Bowl while representing your great city.  And mark my words St. Louis is one of the great sports cities in America and that is mainly due to the storied baseball franchise known as the St. Louis Cardinals.

And yes I have numerous relatives in your area and yes I am sure most of them are saying they don't care about the Rams anymore but please note that when they were the Greatest Show on Turf there were young people who were just getting interested in football.  Imagine all the St. Louis 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 year old kids who loved the Rams.  Yes they might be disappointed that the Rams left and went back to LA but there is a deep affection that remains in there hearts for that Ram helmet.

When the Rams left LA in 1994 I was not really upset. There were other factors taking place in my life that outweigh sports by about a trillion pounds.

1994 is easily the worst year of my life and it has nothing to do with the Rams or the fact that there was no World Series that year.

February 3rd 1994 is the single worst day of my life....and next Sunday the Rams will be playing in the 53rd Super Bowl on the 25th Feb 3rd since 1994.  Every year February 3 arrives and I simply try to deal with the pain and the memory.

Football means so little when weighing the negative reality events that take place in our lives.  
But it does temporarily take one's mind off of the unwanted events.....unless that event falls on the exact day of the event.....but that's my problem, not yours.

As St. Louis football fans I'm not asking you to not be upset that OUR football team came home to LA.  I'm just asking you to look at the bigger picture and keep your eyes on the helmet.

I'm asking you to think of those young people in your city that grew up loving the Rams and then think of that old dude in Cleveland that once more can see that Ram helmet in the last game of the season....knowing that any moment could be his last season.

The New England Patriots are a legendary successful football team that will never be forgotten.

The Cleveland, The Los Angeles, The St. Louis, and again the Los Angles RAMS are also a legendary football team but for other reasons...mainly having to do with movement.

All it takes is multiple highly successful seasons and the Rams can move up that ladder of greatness.

Now one last thing......in Los Angeles we have so many more people than St. Louis and that means we have so many more 7,8,9,10 and 11 year old kids that are just starting to love football and guess what?

THEY ARE LOS ANGELES RAM FANS......and of course some are Charger fans 
BUT
winning a Super Bowl increases the fan base 
by
oodles
and
oodles
and
more oodles than you can even imagine.

Please simply put your anger toward management aside and 
watch the RAM PLAYERS on Feb 3 2019 try to win another Super Bowl.....this time representing Los Angeles, California......
and
still wearing
the
helmet.

Question and a history comparison

I will agree with our President that we have an immigration problem.  I don't agree with his WALL solution because America is not a place that tries to solve problems by building walls.

We build POSSIBILITIES and HOPE for people throughout the world by demonstrating that we respect life, liberty and above all
freedom...even though it is not mentioned.

The pursuit of happiness is also very important because "those guys" said so in the Declaration of Independence.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." 


Pursuing happiness has probably turned out to be the most illusive quest that our forefathers (sorry foremothers) mentioned.....mainly because happiness is not only an illusive term but just when you get really happy someone,or something, drops an physical or spiritual anvil on your foot and you become instantly unhappy.   



Keep in mind that NEWS can be the heaviest anvil that any of us receive....and it doesn't always have to be news on a personal basis.  Of course when the news is personal and the information is not positive, then the possibility of finding happiness again any time soon becomes a very real challenge.


Observing our current President and his manner of behavior, both speaking and acting, is one of the major challenges many of us face at this time in American history.  

And I make no bones about it when I say this is a unique time in our 243 year history.


First off, I'M experiencing it and therefore it is extremely important.  Second off, YOU are experiencing it and therefore it becomes doubly important.  And then it goes on and on and on and on and on and 7 billion souls later we have the only time that matters in the history of OUR world.


THIS IS OUR TIME and we either let someone else determine the future for our children and their children 
or 
we make the situation 
better 
by 
doing better.

Is Donald J. Trump the best that America has to offer the world?

Did you think Richard M. Nixon was the best America had to offer in 1972?

If you are someone who voted in the 1972 election than you must have because that dickhead won every state except Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.  I'm proud to say that he didn't win Marin County but sad to say he won 99 percent of all remaining counties in America.

If you are a younger person than you need to study that election and see what happens when the population simply refuses to pay attention.


I compare that election with the one coming in 2020 because we, as a collective, have had a prolonged opportunity to view the personality of our current elected President; similar to how long we viewed Tricky Dick.  (As Vice-President from 1952-1960 and then President from 1968. In 1962, after losing the Governor's race in California, he was completely written off and yet like the phoenix he reappeared big time)


President Trump or "President Biff" as I like to call him, has been in the public eye for multiple decades and before 2016 most of the information regarding him was from a reality (sort of) TV show. 

Previously the news about him pertained to a new marriage or a bankruptcy involving either a casino or a business venture of his doing.

I'll repeat this one more time...

Is Donald J. Trump the best that America has to offer the world?

And trust me when I say our President has a major effect on the entire world because of what America has accomplished in 243 years.

WE ARE THE BAROMETER FOR PROSPERITY AND THAT ELUSIVE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS....AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN BY ACCIDENT.

How we handle the responsibility of being the actual leader of the free world is the real question of the day.

Remembering some stuff about 2018 and earlier and then it is today

I turned 21 in February of 1967.  For a long time I thought 1968 was the summer of love but I was wrong....even though I was in love during the summer of 1967 with a beautiful girl from Corona del Mar, California named Leslie.  I had been at San Jose State in the fall of 66 and spring of 67 but all I ever saw was pissed off students tipping over ROTC buses on campus. Things were getting intense across the bay at Berkeley but there was very few indications that massive displays of LOVE were about to break out.

The 1967 and 68 college football seasons were large because of Leslie and another small time player named O.J.Simpson.  (Whatever happened to that guy?)  Leslie was a Pi Phi at USC and in 1968 was runner up to the Homecoming Queen. Her escort to the dance was Al Cowlings (who later would be the primary escort for the other dude mentioned above) and O.J. probably saved me an ass whipping because I got a bit vocal and a tad jealous of how many times Mr. Cowlings was dancing with my babe and "The Juice" pulled me aside and told me to chill because Al would "kill" me.

I chilled.

For the last two years I have been amazed at how people continue to support the current President of the United States. Telling lies and making erroneous comments about multiple facets of daily life just doesn't seem to be a deal breaker with his "people".

I haven't chilled.

I pause and try to consider the worldwide important events of 2018 and tragedy (or something stupid our President did or said) always rises to the top of the list and I'm sure that can be blamed on the summers of 67,68 and 69. (huh?)
Therefore all one needs to do is focus on personal important events in order to find positive results.  Of course the people who had their personal lives shattered by tragedy are having a hard time remembering good times during the last year.

That's one reason I always recommend young people try to find a sports team to root for and if possible find one in each sport and then they will have year long points of diversion from the crap that takes place in a space known as "reality."

Reality can truly suck at times and when it sucks it usually happens without much warning....which always brings me back to one of my favorite quotes by Joseph Campbell.

Participate with joy in the sorrows of the world

it's hard to practice but if you stop and think about it you will see that it might be the only answer to assure that the world events don't kick our ass.

I also realize that one important method of dealing with the world situations 
is to simply not pay attention....but that ball does not bounce on my court......

.......and that brings me once more back our President....
and the reason.....

....I refuse to chill.

It is so hard to accept the reality he creates on a daily basis because like millions of other people I KNOW the guy is an idiot.  I also know because he's made a ton of money in his life that the people who support him don't think he's an idiot....and therein lies the rub.

How much was Nikola Tesla worth when he died?
How much was Gandhi worth when he died?
How much was Einstein worth when he died?
How much was Copernicus worth when he died?
How much was Leonhard Euler worth when he died?
How much was Martin Luther King worth when he died?
How much was Jesus worth when he died?
How much was Elvis worth....oh wait he's still alive...............

How many bankruptcies has Donald J. Trump been involved in?

Should he be respected because of the money he's made?

Is that the most important barometer of how we judge human behavior in the 21st Century?

the United States of America has allowed an idiot to run our country and he's doing everything possible to prove this statement correct.

So I stop and reconsider the summers of 68,69,70,71 and 72 which were MY summers of love and I remember how we approached a really really really weird leader by the name of Tricky Dick Nixon.  I'm pretty sure we took it to the streets and then created incredible music and then danced and danced and danced.

Of course not everyone is a good dancer so there was the other types who were busy doing their math homework and figuring out how to operate under a new system.....and yes
a
new
operating
system
was
invented......and we became
connected

And now we are all connected and yet we don't talk to each other anymore except through machines just like the one you are staring at right this very minute.

A memory of a special place and time in my life where it snows all winter


  I was hanging out playing beach volleyball in Santa Monica during the summer of 1963. I had just graduated from St. Monica’s High School. The days were full of sand, sun, girls and games and life was good.

Some internal discussions were taking place, behind my back, among various family members and the next thing I knew I was on the road with my mom and her new Hollywood stuntman boyfriend. Apparently he had a friend that owned a resort by Lake Tahoe and they needed help for the summer.
I’ll always remember that first sight of the Echo Lake with the Chalet on the right.
Unfortunately I was sent back down the road to the corral where I was under the tutelage of a mad boozehounded cowboy named Bob….dickhead.
My mom and her boyfriend basically dropped me off with a small bag of clothes and said, “enjoy your summer Tim…we’ll see you in September.”
The boozehound gave me a broom and sent me into the barn and told me to clean up because that’s where I would be living for the next two months.
The upstairs area in the barn looked like the last inhabitants had been a family of creatures.
I started to sweep while wondering how long it would take to walk back to Santa Monica. Cowboy Bob called me down to the corral and told me to go get one of the mules and bring him to the gate.
There were ten very pissed off pack mules just waiting for some goofy kid to walk in and try to put a rope around anyone of them. I grew up around horses and I remember how angry they can be after being ignored for short periods of time. These mules had been ignored since the previous summer and I barely got out of the corral as they came charging at me. I’ll never forget boozehound Bob laughing as I jumped the fence. “I thought you said you had horses?” “These aren’t horses, they are mules and like you they are absolutely nuts.” He told me to get back up in the barn and clean up my room and I told him to take the broom and put it somewhere else……he told me to get the hell out. I walked back to the Chalet and Jorgy listened to my story for about two minutes and said I could stay a few days until I figured out how to get home. He said I had to work for the room and board and to go upstairs and find a bed. I spent the next few days working about 12 hours a day and somebody noticed that I worked hard and Jorgy hired me at $1.25 an hour. I was a general flunky and one of the first jobs was to remove a large tree stump from the stable area. I was paired with a short little dude named Butch Conlan who lived on the lake. It took us a week to unearth that stump and Butch and I have been dear friends from that moment on.
At the end of the summer I sat down with Jorgy and after carefully examining the books he told me that I owed him $37.50. He had a list of every meal and anything that I had gotten from the chalet store. I remember him looking at me and saying….”Well I guess you’ll have to come back next year to work off what you owe me.”
The next summer I came back after passing a certification test and was officially a boat boy for Echo Lake.
The summers of 63, 64 and 65 will never be forgotten and the wonderful memories of Echo are forever etched in my mind.

Fake news

I'm trying to remember the first time I heard the expression FAKE NEWS and since one should give credit where credit is due I'm fairly certain our esteemed leader used it during the campaign of 2016.

OF COURSE there is a history lesson here and it's up to you to do the research.

So as you've probably learned by now the term fake news has other names such as propaganda and yellow journalism.

Modern channels of communication have created an entirely new brand of fake news.

Of course for a long period of time in our country there was only print media and unless one made flyers, information was only available through a newspaper....and of course letter writing but that was probably confined to personal matters.

And if you stop and think about it....from 1776 to 1910

THERE WAS ONLY PRINT MEDIA

Books and pamphlets were printed but if anyone wanted actual news  during those years they had to read a newspaper or listen to someone who talked to someone who talked to someone.  By the time the story moved along the information highway of people talking to people the facts generally became something entirely different.

Newsreels appeared in 1910 which could be viewed if one went to movie theaters.

Today the amount of channels for creating information, whether it be true or false, appear to be infinite.

Ok........maybe infinite is a blatant exaggeration very much in line with today's topic but I'm sure you get the point.

I salute the British for stepping up and trying to reduce the use of the term but then again the Brits are usually a few steps ahead when it come to civility.  The Canadians and Brits really do have the manners thing down pat.


What is now required of anyone who wishes to be informed is RESEARCH, RESEARCH and more RESEARCH.

If you listen or watch one source you are not informed.

It seems we have a tremendous amount of voters in this country who only listen to one source or perhaps don't listen to any source and only watch game shows on television.

I'm not sure how else one would explain that 50 million people still regard our current administration as a viable answer to the betterment of America.

His administration's viewpoint on Climate Change and how they are altering and eliminating the Clean Air and Clean Water initiatives put in place over the last 20 years

And in conclusion I give credit to Donald J. Trump for making the term Fake News relevant in today's media frenzy world.

I remember the old adage......"it takes one to know one" 

No one knows fake news better than Mr. Fake News himself.

He is the Master of the genre.

But his policies are detrimental to the health of Americans

that's

fake news....it's sad news.

Landed on Mars but we can't feed our children in need?

I like the fact the human species safety landed a craft on Mars after traveling 33 million miles.
BUT......
The statistics regarding children that both are homeless, and or go to bed every night hungry, are staggering.

I expect you to research the numbers and see if you don't agree that those statistics are
staggering. 

I'm not sure you believe me if I simply posted the numbers.

I live in Santa Monica, California in case you were wondering.

Everyday when I walk two blocks to get the morning paper I see the same man coming out of the market with multiple baskets FULL of bakery goods ranging from bread to pies and everything in between.
These items are being given to certain groups that hopefully feed the people in need

Nothing over three days can be sold so it's donated.

This only applies to baked goods.

The amount of produce that is discarded is also
staggering.

Is the word staggering starting to grab your attention yet?

Food being wasted in Los Angeles County and children going hungry.
Nationwide the same scenario is taking place.
World wide it is beyond staggering if you read the UN reports.

But the United States of America should not have staggering statistics when it comes to children being hungry.

Do you think our President knows the statistics regarding children that go to bed hungry?

The young adults that work in the Promenade in Santa Monica 
trying to raise funds to feed hungry children 
don't seem sincere....and I'm not sure why.

So much money is given to charities to fight this kind of problem and yet
the
numbers
are
not 
improving.

The attention given to people from third world countries, trying to enter the United States, is the main priority of our current administration.

I simply wish the number one priority was making sure that no child went to bed hungry.

Seems like a natural and logical wish.

Landing on Mars seems pretty cool.
Allowing children to go hungry is so not cool
and
yet......

Call the White House and let them know...and don't tell me you don't know the number!
