Salute to Hef

In 1958 I was 12 years old and Playboy was five.  Even though it was five years younger than I,  it proved to be a guiding parental shaped influence none the less. Moral issues were absorbed by osmosis of close content with the writing. Between the ages of 12 and 30 I was a regular reader although never a subscriber.  Between 1977 and 1987 I was married and on some occasions, while out of town on business, would select Playboy as my evening companion. From 1988 to 1994 I would entertain a Playboy edition once in awhile.

Since 1994 I've only seen a few issues and that's strictly because I have issues which I don't care to discuss at this particular time. They aren't secret issues just issues not relevant to this article....and they are issues that can't be rectified by pictures of women with large breasts.  I've always preferred a smaller mammary gland look, so Playboy's centerfolds always were a bit over the top for me.  Of course when I was 13-20 I just liked looking at any beautiful woman without her clothes on....and Playboy had a style and a texture that fulfilled that desire in a most complete manner. The actual layouts were always done with extreme class and elegance. Picking up the other competitive magazines from time to time was generally disappointing.  Playboy was crisp and clean.  Penthouse was crude and Hustler was like a bad "B" movie.

Playboy separated itself with it's content....both in the arenas of humor and political issues.

The interviews during the 60's and the 70's were extremely important on so many different levels.

Hugh Hefner always appeared to be on the sensible and honest side of issues. I'm fairly certain that his stand on racial equality was equal in importance to white America as was Martin Luther King's importance to black America.

I realize that statement needs to be absorbed for a few minutes.

In retrospect I think a very strong case could be made for Hugh Hefner's importance in the awareness of racial injustice in America.....and how that injustice was softly introduced through a literary publication that also showed beautiful young women with their clothes off.

IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE ONLY WAY TO INTRODUCE THE SUBJECT TO A VERY LARGE PORTION OF THE YOUNG WHITE AMERICAN MALE POPULATION.

I'm not certain that his original intentions were to wake up America to racial injustices, but after awhile he had to see that it truly was part of the Playboy agenda.

I also realize that today we have a very large segment of our white adult male population ( mostly Republicans) that will do anything to assure that our African American President is a one term President.  Playboy needs to make a circulation comeback like in 1972 when it sold 7 million copies a month....or expand to uptight foreign markets. Currently the circulation in the U.S is 1 and 1/2 million.

There are many countries that ban the sale of Playboy including India and China. I think it's interesting to equate America in the 60's to those countries today.  Most Muslim countries forbid the sale, except Lebanon and Turkey.

There were extreme condemnations of Playboy by woman's groups throughout the years....but I believe that woman's rights and their position in business and politics owes a large thank you to Mr. Hefner and his magazine.

Religious organizations are usually at the heart of the protests and if you think of women's rights in Muslim countries then it's easy to see why Playboy India, Playboy China, Playboy Saudi Arabia, Playboy Pakistan, Playboy Iran and Playboy Thailand SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE PUBLISHED.....on a weekly basis.

SOMETHING IS GOOFY IN THOSE COUNTRIES AND A HUGE PART OF THAT SOMETHING HAS TO DO WITH THE INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM AND THE INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS OF WOMEN.

HUGH....WE NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER ..........ON A GLOBAL BASIS.

I realize that you are 86 but maybe you've got 14 years left to keep the ball rolling.....or in your case.....the balls.

I salute you sir.....but keep your hands off my daughter.

John Conner needed in the board room

The SINGULARITY was named by the gentleman shown above....Ray Kerzweil.

http://www.kurzweilai.net/

From Lev Grossman TIME MAGAZINE SCIENCE 2011

On Feb. 15, 1965, a diffident but self-possessed high school student named Raymond Kurzweil appeared as a guest on a game show called I've Got a Secret. He was introduced by the host, Steve Allen, then he played a short musical composition on a piano. The idea was that Kurzweil was hiding an unusual fact and the panelists — they included a comedian and a former Miss America — had to guess what it was.
On the show (see the clip on YouTube), the beauty queen did a good job of grilling Kurzweil, but the comedian got the win: the music was composed by a computer. Kurzweil got $200.

The difficult thing to keep sight of when you're talking about the Singularity is that even though it sounds like science fiction, it isn't, no more than a weather forecast is science fiction. It's not a fringe idea; it's a serious hypothesis about the future of life on Earth. There's an intellectual gag reflex that kicks in anytime you try to swallow an idea that involves super-intelligent immortal cyborgs, but suppress it if you can, because while the Singularity appears to be, on the face of it, preposterous, it's an idea that rewards sober, careful evaluation.

In October there will be a SINGULARITY CONFERENCE in San Francisco.
http://www.kurzweilai.net/singularity-summit-2012

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS CONFERENCE BROADCAST ON PBS.....but I realize that won't happen so why not Pay Per View?

THIS IS A SUBJECT THAT NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED AND ANY SHORT ARTICLE THAT I CAN WRITE WOULD BE SENSELESS.

READ ABOUT SINGULARITY AND MR. KURZWEIL

I've been looking into Ray and I'm not sure he will be attending the conference and in fact I can't find anything about his current activities.  If you have more current info on him please let me know.

I'd like to see a movie with Tesla and Kurzweil meeting in a time wrapped created pub.

And then they both go back to 1901 and design everything for the 20th and 21st century

Ok....I guess I'll start writing it after I get back from the Dodger game.

Communists Countries and different results

Imagine it's 1958 and the Cold War is in full swing.

Russia decides to build thousands of factories to make cheap versions of everything we need; socks, shoes, anything plastic, furniture, dog food and on and on and on.....by 1962 America is pouring billions of dollars into the Russia economy so that our consumers can buy cheaper goods.  That billions and billions of dollars that Russia has, now goes to building what?  Think hard!

WEAPONS

Russia was spending billions and billions on weapons and there was one problem......they didn't have any money and lo and behold by 1980 the country was virtually broke. They sure couldn't compete any more in the arms race and slowly they realized that the theory of Stalin's communism doesn't really work if the crowd is larger than a commune in southern Oregon.

UNLESS OF COURSE revenue can be raised in a different manner.

China observed the problem and decided that we could build their weapons for them by selling us everything we need.

A major difference in the two situations is that in 1958 there weren't giant warehouse stores in America to handle the influx of product....even if product was being produced.

I'm really not sure who is more to blame for the current situation.  China or Wal-Mart.  I do remember when Sam Walton insisted that everything sold at his stores was Made in the USA.  Not so much any more.

I've talked to people in the furniture industry who have their products manufactured in China and they simply say....."it's not really a communist country. The government leaves businesses alone so they can do business without interference from the communists leaders."

YEAH STUPID.......THAT'S THE F..KING PLAN.

SIMPLY GOOGLE THE AMOUNT OF MONEY CHINA SPEND ON THE MILITARY 25 YEARS AGO AND WHAT THEY SPENT IN 2011 AND WHAT THEY WILL SPEND IN 2012.

It's really not rocket science....oh but what a minute, it is rocket science that they are buying and building.

I fully realize that the United States spends 10 times what China spends on military but our job is to maintain planetary peace and to protect any democracy that needs help.   We also lend a hand in areas where they don't know how to spell democrcy and the cost of those aid situations is staggering...thus our large military expenditures.

When China gets involved in another country it's never to protect the ideals of freedom.

I'm not being naive by ignoring the oil drilling that takes place in or near many of the theaters that America engages itself in.....I'm just saying that we always attempt to leave our goal of freedom and democracy on the place mat when we leave.

Let's face it....We are the Wyatt Earp of planet Earth.

I don't know when we got elected to that post but it was somewhere around 1776.

China, on the other hand, is ????????...........we don't really know what there intentions are, but they seem to be a cross between the Claytons and sheriff Johnny Behan with a pinch of Doc Holiday thrown in just to confuse the matter.

I just think the same people doing business with China today.....would have found it reprehensible to have done business with Russia in the 50's, 60's and 70's.  I realize that we probably always bought Vodka from them, but we are a beer drinking society and  had they made $1.00 six packs of an amber ale.....then we might be talking Russian by now.

I like to look ahead ten years and just wonder how many people will be saying........

.....huh!  I had no idea China was planning to take over the world.

WE SHOULD HAVE CHINA AND ISLAM SQUARE OFF and get that shit settled once and for all.

Nobody ever said being Wyatt Earp would be easy, but I guarantee Wyatt was not buying his boots from the Clayton family so that they could use the money to buy guns and ammunition.

I'd like to hear the two Presidential candidates discuss this issue with Bill Moyers....but instead we'll get them on Leno, Letterman and Ellen talking about their high school reunions.

Hope you all had a great 4th of July!

CERN once again on the lookout.

FROM ABC NEWS

After decades of careful experiment, physicists say they have found the "strongest indication to date" to prove the existence of the Higgs boson -- a subatomic particle so important to the understanding of space, time and matter that the physicist Leon Lederman nicknamed it "the God particle."

The announcement today, based on experiments at the Department of Energy's Fermilab near Chicago and other institutions, is not the final word, but it's very close. And it comes just before a major meeting this week in Australia, where more findings will be announced from the giant underground particle accelerator at CERN, the great physics lab in the Alps on the French-Swiss border.

Physicists say the Higgs boson would help explain why we, and the rest of the universe, exist. It would explain why the matter created in the Big Bang has mass, and is able to coalesce. Without it, as CERN explained in a background paper, "the universe would be a very different place…. no ordinary matter as we know it, no chemistry, no biology, and no people."

All this on the same day that Anderson Cooper admitted he was gay.
Like it was some big secret.

Now the secret behind
the
God Particle
might be
the real
secret
