END of AUGUST

It seems to me that the Dodgers have always had a tough time in August. I'm not prepared to offer statistics on that assumption, at this moment, but the feeling goes well back into my childhood days.

I suppose I could Google the situation and find out their exact record for each month of the season.

But this August is a prime example of the feeling...and yet if they win tonight they will be 15-14.

In the dog days of summer that's not such a bad record and they've managed to hold on to a six game lead over the Giants and the Rockies.

A WEEK AGO THEY WERE ON THE VERGE OF HAVING THE ROCKIES TIE THEM FOR THE DIVISION LEAD.

It didn't look good and then they won four out of five and now have a chance to end August with a winning record.

September the first is the beginning of The RBS

REAL BASEBALL SEASON

The RBS normally lasts for a little less than two months and only involves teams that have a chance of playing in the World Series.

Out of the 30 Major League teams there are 12 that have a chance....maybe 13 or 14 if you still think the Cubs and Brewers have a shot.

12 TEAMS ARE INVOLVED IN
the
RBS

18 teams are trying to figure out where to go on vacation, who might be their future stars and maybe act as spoilers to those other 12 bad boys.

Every win and every loss matters more and every injury becomes more important and every tired arm becomes bigger news and every batting slump becomes intense fuel for the sportswriters.

BUT DURING THE RBS....LEGENDARY STATUS CAN BE ACHIEVED.

PLAYERS THAT HAVE HAD A MEDIOCRE SEASON CAN SUDDENLY MAKE ALL NEGATIVE MEMORIES JUST FLAT OUT....DISAPPEAR.

The Dodgers have a few candidates in that category.

Rafael Furcal, Russell Martin and Doug Mientkiewicz

Doug has been hurt all year but I have a feeling that his pinch hitting role will prove extremely important to the Dodgers during The RBS

Furcal and Martin have had extremely sub-par years for them but none of us will remember that...if they catch fire during The RBS

The 2009 Dodger baseball season has been very interesting because they have led the division since April and generally have displayed a cohesive team attitude throughout all the trials and tribulations that occurred during the regular part of the season. New stars have emerged and solid veterans have shown their metal and the pitching staff, without a true ace, has done a remarkable job.

BUT ALL THAT GETS TOSSED OUT THE WINDOW
BECAUSE TOMORROW STARTS
THE
RBS

A good way to start THE RBS would be to finish off August with a winning record.

GO DODGERS!

Mom

Today my mom would be 87 in her physical reality. I have no idea how old she is in her non-physical reality but it's probably a much higher number.

Meredith Ann Mathews McAlevey Gustelius was a Southern California girl. She attended University High and met my dad at a USO dance before he went overseas.

She was married a couple of times and had three children

Gerald
Michael
Galen
also known as Jerry, Timmy and Gigi

When I was about seven years old she decided that our family needed a change and we moved from the Hollywood hills to the dirt roads of Sylmar in the San Fernando Valley. (1952)

She became the President of the 4-H club within a few years and we all turned into little ranch hands.

My brother and my sister have never stopped being animal lovers while I on the other hand I am personal friends with a Yorky named Ollie but he's not mine and I've never owned an animal since the Sylmar days.

Obviously something happened to me that didn't happen to my brother and sister.

There isn't enough therapy time to find out so I'll just be animaless...without any regrets.

My mom made sure we had a wide range of animals in our Sylmar days but I don't recall her having her own animals other than a BUNCH of boxer dogs.

One of her boxers had a litter of 18 pups....and I'll always remember that day. It never seemed to stop and they just kept coming and coming and coming.

My mom was the mid-wife and it was probably one of her favorite days on earth.

She moved from this physical reality in 1980 at the age of 58. That's five years younger than I am today.

Happy Birthday Mom in your other reality....and say hi to Sean.

MERCURY and that CUTE little spiral bulb you keep buying

THIS INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON MANY SITES INCLUDING WIKIPEDIA

THERE ARE NUMEROUS

WORDS REGARDING THIS MATTER

CLICK ON ANY OF THEM

ESPECIALLY MERCURY POISONING

Mercury (pronounced /ˈmɜrkjʊri/), also called quicksilver (/ˈkwɪksɪlvər/) or hydrargyrum(/haɪˈdrɑrdʒɨrəm/), is a chemical element with the symbol Hg (Latinized Greek:hydrargyrum, meaning watery or liquid silver) and atomic number 80. A heavy, silvery d-block metal, mercury is one of six chemical elements that are liquid at or near room temperature and pressure,[1][2] the others being caesium, francium, gallium, bromine, andrubidium. Mercury is the only metal that is liquid at standard conditions for temperature and pressure. With a melting point of −38.83 °C and boiling point of 356.73 °C, mercury has one of the widest ranges of its liquid state of any metal.

Mercury occurs in deposits throughout the world mostly as cinnabar (mercuric sulfide), which source of the red pigment vermilion, and is mostly obtained by reduction from cinnabar. Cinnabar is highly toxic by ingestion or inhalation of the dust, and mercury poisoning can also result from exposure to soluble forms (such as mercuric chloride ormethylmercury), inhalation of mercury vapor, or eating fish contaminated with mercury.

Mercury is used in thermometers, barometers, manometers, sphygmomanometers, float valves, and other scientific apparatus, though concerns about the element's toxicity have led to mercury thermometers and sphygmomanometers being largely phased out in clinical environments in favor of alcohol-filled, digital, or thermistor-based instruments. It remains in use in a number of other ways in scientific and scientific research applications, and inamalgam material for dental restoration. It is used in lighting; electricity passed through mercury vapor in a phosphor tube produces short-wave ultraviolet light which then causes the phosphor to fluoresce, making visible light

Mercury poisoning (also known as hydrargaria or mercurialism) is a disease caused by exposure to mercury or its compounds. Mercury (chemical symbol Hg) is a heavy metal which occurs in several forms, all of which can produce toxic effects in high enough doses. Its zerooxidation state Hg0 exists as vapor or as liquid metal, its mercurous state Hg+ exists as inorganicsalts, and its mercuric state Hg2+ may form either inorganic salts or organomercury compounds; the three groups vary in effects. Toxic effects include damage to the brain, kidney, and lungs.[1]Mercury poisoning can result in several diseases, including acrodynia (pink disease), Hunter-Russell syndrome, and Minamata disease.[2]

Symptoms typically include sensory impairment (vision, hearing, speech), disturbed sensation and a lack of coordination. The type and degree of symptoms exhibited depend upon the individual toxin, the dose, and the method and duration of exposure.

Fluorescent lamps

Fluorescent lamps contain mercury which is released when bulbs are broken. Mercury in bulbs is typically present as either elemental mercury liquid, vapor or both since the liquid evaporates at ambient temperature.[60] When broken indoors, bulbs may emit sufficient mercury vapor to present health concerns, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends evacuating and airing out a room for at least 15 minutes after breaking a fluorescent light bulb.[61] Breakage of multiple bulbs presents a greater concern. A 1987 report described a 23-month-old toddler who suffered anorexia, weight loss, irritability, profuse sweating, and peeling and redness of fingers and toes. This case of acrodynia was traced to exposure of mercury from a carton of 8-foot fluorescent light bulbs that had broken in a potting shed adjacent to the main nursery. The glass was cleaned up and discarded, but the child often used the area for play.[62]

Fluorescent lights contain mercury and, per Washington State regulations, are classified as hazardous waste and cannot be disposed of in the garbage. Thurston County residents may dispose of them at
participating retail stores, HazoHouse, semi-annual WasteMobileevents, or through a permitted hazardous waste disposal company.

  • Fluorescent bulbs, tubes, and globes: used in businesses, schools, offices, and stores.
  • High-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, including mercury vapor, metal halide, and high-pressure sodium: used for streetlights, floodlights, photography, and industrial lighting. Also may contain regulated amount of lead in the base.
  • Compact fluorescent: used in homes and offices.
  • Neon lamps (some use mercury and phosphor powder): used as novelties, in lounge, and retail establishments.

What to Do If You Break a Lamp

Avoid breathing vapors or touching broken materials.

Do not vacuum or sweep.

  1. Open windows to vent vapors for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Use stiff paper or cardboard to pick up large pieces.
  3. Use duct tape to pick up small pieces and powder.
  4. Wipe the area clean with a damp paper towel or wet wipe.
  5. Place all materials in a sealed container.
  6. Wash your hands.
  7. Dispose of at HazoHouse — not in your trash. When you change a bulb, cover the flooring with a sheet of plastic.

IS THERE AN OPEN BID ON THIS PROJECT?

LIGHTS ARE GOING TO CHANGE

Democrats are trying to spend a cool million dollars to replace the lights on the Capitol dome and Republicans are saying that it's too much money to spend during a time of record federal budget deficits.

I think if there is an open bid process than it can be done for less than a million....USING THE LATEST SOLID STATE LIGHTING (LEDs) TECHNOLOGY

House Speaker Nancy Polesi (D-Calif)) is pushing for the project to replace 38 1000 watt metal halide lamps with 128 bulbs ranging from 35 to 210 watts.

House Minority leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) claims it will take 50 years to generate enough energy savings to recoup the cost....WHICH IS DEFINITELY NOT TRUE WHEN YOU INCLUDE ALL ASPECTS OF THE RETROFIT.

THIS CAN'T POSSIBLY BE A DEMOCRAT VS REPUBLICAN ISSUE

Republicans can't be against saving energy.

I accept if they think it can be done for less but to complain about a million dollars when we are spending somewhere between $700 BILLION and $4 TRILLION on the war on terror.

BEING ABLE TO SAVE ENERGY ANYWHERE WE CAN WILL HELP TO REDUCE THE REASONS THAT WE NEED TO PROTECT THE PIPELINES.

USING SOLID STATE LIGHTING ON THE CAPITOL BUILDING IS A SYMBOL OF OUR COMMITMENT TO NOT ONLY NEW TECHNOLOGY, BUT EXTREME REDUCTIONS IN ENERGY USE.

A SYMBOL IS OFTEN TIMES MORE IMPORTANT THAN A DRONE BEING USED TO FIND BAD GUYS IN THE MOUNTAINS OF SOME REMOTE FOREIGN LAND.

AND IF THEY DO USE SOLID STATE LIGHTING THEY CAN PROGRAM VARIOUS COLORS FOR CERTAIN HOLIDAYS.

I'M NOT SURE HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW ABOUT LEDs SO I SUGGEST GOING ON CERTAIN SITES TO SEE HOW AMAZING THEY ARE.

This following site has some great pictures....imagine the Capitol Dome lit up for The 4th of July like that giant
Ferris Wheel in London.

http://www.colorkinetics.com

GO TO THE SHOWCASE HEADING
AND SEE THE POTENTIAL

KEEP IN MIND THAT COLOR COMBINATIONS ARE COMPUTER DRIVEN
SO THERE IS
AN ABUNDANCE OF CHOICES.

Millions

Seriously.....millions.

And to do the Capitol Dome with LED lights would show
the world that we are
committed
to both saving energy and making everything
just a bit more
colorful...
even if it is only for a few days a year.

AND THAT POSITIVE SYMBOLIC GESTURE WILL ONLY
COST
$1 MILLION DOLLARS!

IS THERE AN OPEN BID ON THIS JOB?

Tomorrow I will explain why you need to stop buying
FLUORESCENT
SPIRAL BULBS
THAT CONTAIN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
NEUROTOXIN

FAST and HIGH and if they married??????

Usain Bolt has created a new standard for human beings being able to run fast.
Four days ago he ran the 100 meters in 9.58
Today he ran the 200 meters in 19.19

BOTH OF THESE FIGURES ARE STAGGERING

ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE

IF steroids have anything to do with incredible speed than I'm really looking forward to seeing what a complete field of steroid users could do.

Imagine having an injection 5 minutes before a race

I honestly don't think MR. BOLT uses anything other than a small bit of ganja while trying to relax during the off season.

Ganja can't pass a drug test but can you imagine if he came out and said...."if it wasn't for dakind then I wouldn't have these records....I owe everything I am to Bob Marley."

It's probably the most incredible athletic achievement in the history of sport

AND THEN ONE HOUR LATER THE BABE'S HIGH JUMP WAS WON BY
BLANKA VLASIC
OF
CROATIA

6'4" isn't how high she jumped....it's how high she stands.
SHE ACTUALLY JUMPED 6'9"

The plan should be how to hook up Usain and Blanka

Could you imagine a child born from this couple?

I realize this sounds a bit like a Hilter plan but he would not have been keen to an marriage between these two people.

AFTER ALL SHE'S MUCH TOO TALL and way too thin.

The World Championships are being held in Berlin. The same stadium where Jesse Owews humbled Dickhead Hitler.

They are being televised on VERSUS...which is a cable channel

It amazes me how the announcers go out of there way to make second and third place finishers feel horrible about their performances and their lives....especially the after event interviewers who talk to the performers within minutes of their events.

It's very hard to watch when someone interviews a second place finsher and says..."you must be extremely disappointed in your performance."

IT'S RIDICULOUS TO SAY SOMEONE SHOULD BE DISAPPOINTED AFTER WORKING SO HARD TO WIN A MEDAL.

It's also silly to hear an announcer recap the 100 meter race and say...."you can't let Bolt get that kind of lead."

OTHER THAN GRABBING HIS FREAKIN SHIRT WHAT COULD SOMEONE DO TO PREVENT HIM FROM GETTING THAT KIND OF LEAD?

I feel sorry for the families of the athletes who are watching TV while their loved ones give everything they have only to finish second or third and then be humiliated by an announcer asking them "why didn't you do better?"

BUT OTHER THAN THAT SMALL CRITICISM.....I'M TELLING YOU FLAT OUT

THIS IS THE GREATEST REALITY SHOW ON TV...and
there's probably only 3 or 4 million people watching it.

The drama and the effort and the talent is unequaled...because
it
really is
REALITY

TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN ATHLETES
GIVING 200 PERCENT
sometimes failing
sometimes winning
but
always giving a
TOTAL EFFORT

I LOVE IT

and I hope I get invited to the BOLT/VLASIC wedding.
