Many Earth-Like planets should not be a surprise

There was an article the other day in the LA TIMES indicating that new findings contradict the current theory of planetary formation.

In other words the science brains are surprised that there might be so many earth like planets within out galaxy.

Why on non-earth would that be a surprise?

There are approximately 200 billion stars within our Milky-Way galaxy. They estimate that there could be 46 billion Earth-Like planets orbiting those stars.

Why couldn't there be 200 billion Earth-Like planets?

Why would anybody be surprised?

OUR GALAXY IS MORE THAN A TRILLION MILES ACROSS, if indeed that's an across and not an up and down or an in and out.

What I find surprising is that we have pictures of other galaxies. How is that even remotely possible?

I think the Hubble and Spitzer telescope people just make up things because how on earth would anybody be able to question what they say?

My friend Tom pointed out that the same might apply to the inner universe that seems to be the main focus of CERN and the large colliders that are being constructed around the world.

Please note that we have yet to see atoms but we manipulate them like grains of sand.

There are 200 BILLION stars in our galaxy and the powers that be say there are 170 BILLION GALAXIES in our observable universe. Some of those galaxies have
a hundred Trillion stars. Yeah.....one hundred trillion!

WHO IS DOING THE COUNTING?

Seriously..........
THE MENTAL CATS AT MIT AND CAL TECH AND OTHER SUCH PLACES...CAN ACTUALLY MAKE UP ANYTHING THEY WANT.

Why not four hundred trillion?

If they throw numbers around like that, then why would anybody be surprised that there are billions of earth-like planets in our galaxy....and then billions and billions more in other galaxies.

Do EARTH-LIKE planets mean that life forms exist on those planets?

DUH?

AND KEEP IN MIND THAT OUR SUN IS YOUNG
which sounds like a new leader or ice skater from Korea
Sun Is Young

Just imagine for one moment how advanced our technology will be in 100,000 years.

Now simply realize that some galaxies have been around for a billion years longer than our Milky-Way.

It's a pretty good chance that our ancestors might actually be traveling around the Universe making babies that grow into Albert Einsteins......and because cross breeding is always unpredictable we sometimes end up with Adolph Hitlers and John Wayne Gacy's.

But we also get Jessica Alba's and Reese Witherspoon's and all those creatures that work for Victoria Secret and Sports Illustrated.

far out number the known realities."

with well developed intuition."

Elections, World Series, Football games and SEX

Now that I have your full attention I have to confess that there will be no sex in this article.

The upcoming election on November 2 will give us a pretty clear picture of what to expect in the 2012 Presidential race.

I do know one thing for sure.......it's much more fun being on the offense than it is being on the defense. I think back to those eight years with George Jr. and how sweet it was to make fun of him and ridicule his decisions. And now every conservative in America is tearing Barry apart for his decisions in regards to how he is trying to fix a financial fiasco.

You can blame Barry for all the financial problems but does anyone really believe it all started in January of 2009?

There's a new documentary film called INSIDE JOB that should be required viewing for EVERYBODY.

Mortgage Brokers, Bankers and Investment Counselors started making fundamental errors (or crimes) in structural economic matters back in the Reagan administration.

The amount of money made by certain people and certain groups was ludicrous and then when you weigh in the fact that average working Americans are going to pay the price for their greedy behavior......than the action becomes criminal.

Barack Obama does have to reverse the deficit trend or he will soon be regarded as a Republican.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS LOOK AT THE UNITED STATES DEFICIT CHART SINCE 1960 AND NOTE THAT REPUBLICANS WIN HANDS DOWN FOR INCREASED DEFICIT NUMBERS. Since they always campaign on smaller government and less spending, history has shown that their actions are exactly opposite of their promises.

The local California propositions that seems to be of interest are numbers 19 and 23. 19, which is the pot prop, appears to be losing and 23 which is the prop to stop cleaning up environmental problems also appears to be losing.

I agree that some people should not smoke pot. But those same people should not drink or smoke cigarettes and many of them do......to an excess. The same regulations regarding drinking will be in place for smoking pot so what's the big deal? The regulations for drinking have not stopped millions of people from abusing alcohol and we have learned that alcohol abuse is extremely bad for the body. Pot abuse might be a problem for normal lung activity but it only takes one hit to get a pot high and an alcohol buzz usually takes multiple doses to achieve it's intended affect. The reason pot is not legal is because the alcohol industry does not want a weed competing with their product. A weed that you can grow inside your house with a small grow light. That's bad for business when you have a brewery costing millions of dollars to supply us with Bud Light.

Speaking of pot smokers it looks like Jerry Brown will be our next governor. I was worried for awhile that we might have to look at Meg's hair for the next four years.

Nationwide it seems that the GOP will pick up a few seats.

I'm finished voting for Barbara Boxer so I'll be checking the Peace and Freedom box in that category. 28 years is long enough for any senator. Time to move on Barbara.

And now for the two huge battles taking center stage this week. The World Series features the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers. I was pulling for the Giants to get to the series but now I think I'll be rooting for the Rangers. I like the idea of a team winning for the first time. It's a special story and then when you add all the OUTSIDE elements to their experience.... it becomes quite compelling. Drug and alcohol recovery stories are pretty cool until something goes wrong. Hopefully there won't be any relapses during the next two weeks. Even the Texas manager has had a little toot problem.

I think the Texas Rangers will win and of course I hope it goes 7 games because there's nothing more exciting in sports than the seventh game of a World Series...

Saturday the USC Trojans take on the number one team (everywhere except the BCS poll) the Oregon Ducks. I sincerely hope the Trojans smack the quack out of them and another number one team bites the dust....but realistically the boys from Troy will really have to upgrade their tackling skills if they plan on making duck soup. The problem with the Ducks is that they are acting more like hawks and that could spell big trouble for the crimson and gold. They seem to be unstoppable.

By the time the World Series is over we will have a new Governor and pot will still be smoked and grown by those who smoke it and grow it....... no matter what the law says. In fact I think there will be an entire new contingent of pot growers because there has been so much focus on the product that it seems to easy not to get involved.

Read High Times magazine and one can learn everything there is to know about starting a small pot farm.....right in the spare bedroom. If you've got some acreage then you can become a force to be reckoned with. I suggest keeping it inside unless 19 passes.

Ands that's how we roll....so to speak.

THIS IS THE SINGLE GREATEST COMEBACK IN SPORTS

IT'S OFFICIAL.

The JOSH HAMILTON story
is the single greatest comeback story in the history of professional sports.

We had to wait a few years to be sure because drug and alcohol problems usually do not go away....they just hide for awhile and then resurface.

He was the number one draft pick in 1999. He received a $200,000 dollar signing bonus. (This year's #1 pick, Bryce Haper, received a 9.9 million dollar contract)

Most high draft picks spend a few years in the minors. Young Mr. Hamilton traveled a different path.

Josh is 29 years old and from 2003 to 2006 he was not involved in any baseball activity.

His main activity was doing crack, drinking and getting tats.

To say that he was hanging with the wrong crowd might be an understatement. He did manage to get married a have a child during that period but it wasn't enough to make him stop doing things that would destroy his life.

We might never learn the actual truth about what made him change but on October 6 2005 he stopped drinking and doing drugs.

This year he won the American League batting championship with a .359 average.

Currently he is leading the Texas Rangers to a 3-1 lead over the New York Yankees and with one more victory the Rangers will be going to their first World Series.

The Yankees have won the World Series 27 times.

This potential defeat of the Yankees makes the comeback story even greater. Of course it's the Yankees so they can't be counted out, but if Texas does go to he World Series The Josh Hamilton Story will dominate the event.

IT SHOULD DOMINATE ANY EVENT THAT HE ATTENDS.

He now has three children and the same wife that watched him completely fall apart. Her name is Katie and there's a story that also needs to be told.

Apparently he had a short relapse in January of 2009 in the drinking area so the story still has it's bumps and bruises. He indicates that his sobriety is a day to day situation but currently his day to day situation involves smacking the New York Yankees all over the ballpark.

You will be reintroduced to The Josh Hamilton Story on a large scale if The Texas Rangers reach the World Series.

He could be the ultimate poster boy for anyone who thinks they can't stop doing things that destroy their lives.

His story is so amazing that I officially announce it the Greatest Comeback Story in the history of professional sports.

You will be hearing a lot more about Josh Hamilton over the next few weeks......if they can simply finish off the Yankees.

Nice story Josh......thanks and keep it together when the champagne starts flowing.

Interesting Book

The Poet Prince by Kathleen McGowan.

I love the idea that Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus and not some harlot that he saved from being stoned to death. There are so many questions regarding changes the Catholic Church made during the Dark Ages that it makes sense one of those changes was to alter Mary's role in the life of Jesus. After all, if The Pope suddenly decided in the 7th Century that priest can no longer be married than it's important to say that Jesus did not have a woman.

Most people seem to be aware that quite a few of the Popes, for about 700 years, were total whack jobs.

Ms. McGowan smartly ties the art work from The Renaissance into the secret societies that have been preserving the truth about Ms Magdalene. The story does some wonderful time traveling between today and the 15th Century.

One of the fun aspects of reading her work, which happens to be the third in a series, is to download the specific pieces of art by Botticelli and Michaelangelo and look for the items that tie the story together. The models used by Botticelli are intertwined with the theories on Mary's true position in the life of Jesus of Nazareth.

If you have any interest in The Renaissance I highly recommend this book. It's a new and different perspective on how some of the greatest art ever created....was actually created.

And it is also a wonderful love story.

Self Promotion is a rather sticky situation

LEAJEWEL

Once upon a time, they lived happily ever after”

I just reread my LeaJewel script and feel quite confident that it could be produced. There aren't glaring flaws in the structure and the characters are, while not being extremely detailed, at the very least........... interesting.

Leajewel should be played by someone with a face like Emma Watson or that girl I saw in the Promenade a few months ago.

I guess I need another round of submissions......maybe this time I'll give it to people who make films.

Birdies, pars and a big triple bogey for NBC

The Ryder Cup was returned to Europe with a one point win. If you don't know what the Ryder Cup is then the rest of this article might be a tad bit hard to follow. There's also the extreme possibility that you don't like the game of golf and so all the excitement and emotions involved in the four day event....mean absolutely nothing to you.

A reference point.......The Ryder Cup consists of two teams made of 12 men each. The competition normally takes three days but in Wales this year the rain interrupted play and the final day was today....Monday. The final day consists of 12 individual matches. One point is awarded for a win and one half point for a tie.

You don't have to like golf to appreciate teamwork. You like it when friends and family get together and treat each other with respect and display signs of affection. You like it when somebody supports your efforts and you like it when someone recognizes your pain and helps in the repair process.

This was like two large families coming together to settle a dispute....and the dispute is.....who has the best players....US or Europe?

Professional Golf is an individual endeavor except for The Ryder Cup. It happens every two years and in 2012 it will take place back in the United States at Medinah.

Newport, Wales was the location and since they are eight hours ahead of us on the West Coast the live TV viewing was abnormal. It started on Friday on ESPN at 1 am and then rain got involved so things got moved around and Saturday morning coverage started on NBC at 5 AM.

THAT SATURDAY MORNING COVERAGE WAS THE WORST COVERAGE I HAVE EVER SEEN FOR A SPORTING EVENT.

THE WORST

There was three minutes of coverage followed by two minutes of commercials....and that continued for the entire Saturday morning coverage. There was no continuity and the favorite expression by the announcer was....."just a moment ago...this happened."

NBC SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO EVERY VIEWER IN AMERICA....but their revenue stream is the only thing that matters and there must have been 200 commercials during the Saturday broadcast. If I see the Gecko one more time I'm going to cancel my insurance.

And for some reason Johnny Miller, the announcer, kept predicting things and there's no predicting in golf. He should know better than anyone but yet he kept saying things like...."this should be an easy 12 foot putt."

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS AN EASY 12 FOOT PUTT......and every time he predicted something or made a statement about what an American would do, ...the exact opposite happened.....and then he said this about Phil Mickelson..."if Phil didn't have a short game he would be a used car salesmen."

I'm thinking it's time for Johnny to head on back to Utah and start counting the sheep.

The horrible coverage on Saturday caused the Americans to get 1/2 point and the Europeans 5 and 1/2 points....and that was the difference in the Ryder Cup.

The team needed our help and NBC completely took the American viewer out of the mix......OUR ENERGY AND OUR FOCUS WAS NOT AVAILABLE BECAUSE WE WERE WATCHING 100 GEICO COMMERCIALS. IT WAS A TRAVESTY AND WHOEVER WAS ACTING AS PRODUCER OF THAT COVERAGE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIM OR HER SELF.

As an example..... today the coverage was on USA and commercials came every 11 to 13 minutes....which is the normal pattern for watching non-cable television. Sporting events have a different pattern because it's actually happening at the moment.

We still ended up losing the Ryder Cup but the United States made a great comeback and the outcome wasn't decided until the final match on the 17th hole....and those of us who watched the entire four days really felt like we played.......or at least participated in some minor way.

Well, maybe NOT played....... but I am exhausted.

I hope Hunter Mahan recovers quickly because he made every normal amateur golfer in American feel like we were part of the process. We make those kind of shots during every round we play.

The Ryder Cup wasn't lost by Hunter Mahan on Monday....it was lost by NBC on Saturday.

Now that I've got the bitching out of the way I want to say the following.

The 2010 Ryder Cup was one of the most compelling, interesting and exciting golf matches I have ever seen. For the contest to be decided on the 17th hole by the 12th game is simply an amazing bonus. The players from both sides were dedicated to winning the cup and their immense pride in being involved in the event was always obvious.

The press conferences, with each team after the match, were as entertaining as any sports press conference I've ever seen.

Not only did the word "gentlemen" come to mind but so did other great words like compassion, integrity, fortitude, camaraderie, intelligence, humor, insight, honesty and brotherhood.

And it's important to realize that all 24 of those participants will be trying to kick each other's ass for the next two years before they once again meet for the Ryder Cup in 2012 at Medinah, Illinois.

Golf might be the most individual sport there is, so when TEAMS get together for a special "outing" it is something to cherish and remember.

Of course if you have never enjoyed a "golf outing" then you need to get your butt out to the driving range and start swinging.

You'll thank me later.
