This little Piggy

Imagine if the Swine Flu started with this guy.

I realize the Swine Flu shouldn't be a target of humor but there are some odd sidebars to this story.

The American public is being told to avoid traveling to Mexico but not one word has been mentioned regarding the illegal aliens coming here. Which means we don't care if they bring it we just aren't allowed to go get it.

Egypt has ordered all 350,000 pigs in the country to be slaughtered. Keep in mind that Muslims do not eat pork but these pigs are raised for consumption by the Christian minority. Please note there have been no reported outbreaks in Egypt.

If they decide to slaughter all types of pigs including chauvinistic ones...then that would pretty much spell the end of Egypt's male population.

MALE CHAUVINISM has become synonymous with the Muslim man.

Muslim men make those of us...who have been accused of being insensitive to a woman's rights
here in the United States...look like card carrying crusaders of equality.

The disease is not spread by eating pork so BLT's are safe until further notice. The problem with further notice is by the time it arrives it's usually to late.

There's been one case reported in Austria and two cases in Israel.

Seven police officers were murdered yesterday in Tijuana and it has nothing to do with the Swine Flu but it might a much larger problem than the flu.

Over 500 police officers have died in Mexico since 2006 and none of them died from the Swine Flu.

If the United States simply stopped buying drugs for a few years what would the drug dealers do?

I realize that's not going to happen but I keep thinking musicals will make a comeback so dreaming is just the way I roll.

2012

This is actually getting to be a strange problem.

DIFFERENT ANGLES ON THE END OF THE MAYAN CALENDER ARE STARTING TO ARRIVE FROM REALLY REMOTE PLACES

Pretty soon NOSTRADAMUS information will arrive that predicted the same thing.

I think about the reactions to the end of a century and how many nut jobs appear....and now we are talking about the end of EVERYTHING.

PLEASE GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK...and if you are a wacko who plans on making life even weirder than it already is because the END OF THE WORLD is coming, then do us all a favor and read back through history on how things just keep moving forward....and then do us another favor and find a little cave somewhere in northern Alaska and just be very very still until January 1st 2013.

The things people want to be believe have always amazed me....and the things I believe amaze me.

IT'S JUST SOME THINGS NEED TO BE ADDRESSED WITH A SMALL TOUCH OF COMMON SENSE

THIS IS ONE OF THEM

RELAX and keep planning for the future because there's a real strong possibility that the future will arrive....no matter what you or I believe.

31

Sean was born 31 years ago
today
and now he has officially been gone longer than
his stay

I can't explain how I feel because it changes
every minute
like a strange time warp and I'm not the only
one in it

Sometimes it feels like everything happened this
morning
and then other moments feel like forever without
any warning

like he was never even here
and nothing bad really happened to you or me
and then reality whacks
and with clarity I see

of course I watched him being born and then grow and then laugh and then run and then jump and then climb and then think and then excel and then get taller and then get smarter and then and then and then and then.....

Here's the truth I face on a daily basis

My physical reality would be much more rewarding if Sean Maxilmilian McAlevey
was physically turning 31 today and we were having a birthday party for him

MUCH MORE

My non-physical reality, on the other hand, is elevated beyond belief because of his presence in my life.

But keep in mind that non-physical reality is a forever thing and physical reality is short and so very very sweet

sometimes even shorter than we could ever have imagined

Happy Birthday Sean

BEYOND EARTH DAY

A newly found primordial blob may represent the most massive object ever discovered in the early universe, researchers announced today.

The gas cloud, spotted from 12.9 billion light-years away, could signal the earliest stages of galaxy formation back when the universe was just 800 million years old.

"I have never heard about any [similar] objects that could be resolved at this distance," said Masami Ouchi, a researcher at the Carnegie Institution in Pasadena, Calif. "It's kind of record-breaking."

A light-year is the distance light travels in a year, about 6 trillion miles (10 trillion kilometers). An object 12.9 billion light-years away is seen as it existed 12.9 billion years ago, and the light is just now arriving.

The cloud predates similar blobs, known as Lyman-Alpha blobs, which existed when the universe was 2 billion to 3 billion years old. Researchers named their new find Himiko, after an ancient Japanese queen with an equally murky past.

Himiko holds more than 10 times as much mass as the next largest object found in the early universe, or roughly the equivalent mass of 40 billion suns. At 55,000 light years across, it spans about half the diameter of our Milky Way Galaxy.

Lyman-Alpha blobs remain a mystery because existing telescopes have a hard time peering so far back to nearly the dawn of the universe.

Himiko sits right on the doorstep of an era called the reionization epoch, which lasted between 200 million and 1 billion years after the Big Bang. That's when the universe had just emerged from its cosmic dark ages and had begun brightening through the formation of stars and galaxies. Hot, energized hydrogen gas from that time period has allowed astronomers to begin seeing some objects — as much good as it does to squint at such fuzzy blobs.

"Even for astronomers, we don't understand," Ouchi told SPACE.com. "We are keen to try to understand what those systems are in the reionization epoch."

"SOMETIMES THE SOUL OF AN ARTIST KNOWS FOR SURE WHAT THE MIND OF SCIENTISTS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND"

Do you know anybody who has Himiko's cell phone number?

Himiko has nice colors...don't you think?

EARTH DAY

APRIL 22

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSypqOGqH38

Go to the above site (copy and paste) and and listen to Farewell while reading the following lyrics

THERE'S A SOUL IN THE LIFE OF THE LAND WHERE WE LIVE
IT'S CLEAR

IT'S CLEAN

IT'S FRESH

AND IT'S OURS

IT DOESN'T CARE WHERE WE'VE COME FROM

IT DOESN'T ASK WHO ARE

JUST
DO WE LOVE
WHERE WE STAND

AT THIS TIME

WE CAN DRINK ALL IT'S WATER
AND MINE ALL IT'S COAL

BUT WHEN WE MIX THE TWO TOGETHER

IT TROUBLES HER SOUL

WE CAN TEST ALL THE BOMBS
AND DESTROY EVERY LAST TREE

AND THE ONLY THING IT REALLY DOES

IS ELIMINATE YOU AND ME

THE HARM THAT WE BRING

DOESN'T BOTHER THE LAND

WE ONLY HURT OURSELVES

BY FAILING TO UNDERSTAND

THAT THERE'S A SOUL IN THE LIFE OF THE LAND WHERE WE LIVE
IT'S CLEAR

IT'S CLEAN

IT'S FRESH

AND IT'S OURS

IT DOESN'T CARE WHERE WE'VE COME FROM

IT DOESN'T ASK WHO WE ARE
JUST DO WE LOVE

WHERE WE STAND

AT THIS TIME

WE ARE GIVEN ALL THE TREASURES

THAT ANYONE CAN USE

BUT IF WE DON'T HAVE A VISION

THEN ALL WE DO IS LOSE

WE DUMP OUR PROBLEMS

IN EVERY OCEAN, RIVER AND STREAM
WE LIVE BY A CODE OF CONSUMPTION

THAT POLLUTES AND DARKENS EVERY DREAM

WE THINK THAT OIL IS OUR GOLD
BECAUSE IT MOVES MACHINES AND MAN

AND ALL IT REALLY DOES

IS REMOVE THE SPRINGS OF LAND

WE NEED THAT SPECIAL CRUDE

BECAUSE WE'VE IGNORED OTHER WAYS

AND WE END UP SIMPLY
COUGHING THROUGH A HAZE

OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN

WILL REALLY PAY THE PRICE

AND JUST THAT THOUGHT ALONE

DOESN'T MAKE US VERY NICE

WE THOUGHT WE CONTROLLED THE EARTH

BY DOMINATING THE LAND

AND IT SIMPLY COMES DOWN TO ONE THING

THAT WE
JUST DIDN'T UNDERSTAND

THAT THERE'S A SOUL IN THE LIFE OF THE LAND WHERE WE LIVE

IT'S CLEAR

IT'S CLEAN

IT'S FRESH

AND IT'S OURS

IT DOESN'T CARE WHERE WE'VE COME FROM
IT DOESN'T ASK WHO WE ARE

JUST
DO WE LOVE
WHERE WE STAND

AT THIS TIME

SPIKE

STORY FROM LA TIMES
PETER PAE

Engineers at the Mojave Desert base are developing a miniature missile that can be launched from a robotic plane against terrorist targets. Reporting from China Lake, Calif. -- A 5-pound missile the size of a loaf of French bread is being quietly tested in the Mojave Desert north of Los Angeles as the military searches for more deadly and far more precise robotic weapons for modern warfar

In the next month or so, researchers at the Naval Air Warfare Center at China Lake expect to test a 2-foot-long Spike missile that is about a "quarter of the size of the next smallest on the planet," said Steve Felix, the missile project's manager.

THIS IS REALLY GREAT NEWS FOR DRUG DEALERS AND TERRORISTS OF ANY SIZE, SHAPE OR FORM
I IMAGINE SPIKE WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE NEXT ARMS TRADE SHOW IN DUBAI

DOES ANYBODY THINK THAT SPIKE WON'T BE MASSED PRODUCED AND SOLD TO THE HIGHEST BIDDERS?

CHINA and RUSSIA PROBABLY HAVE THEIR OWN VERSIONS OF SPIKE AND THAT MEANS THAT EVERY WARLORD, PIRATE AND DRUG TRAFFICKER WILL SOON BE THE PROUD OWNERS OF THEIR OWN SET OF MISSILES....THE SIZE OF A LOAF OF FRENCH BREAD.

I can actually hear the e-mail orders coming in from Somali, Columbia and the Sudan as I type.

Tattoo's of SPIKE are being added to parlor catalogs
and
the
world
just got a bit wackier.

WAS THIS REALLY A STORY THAT NEEDED TO BE COVERED BY THE LA TIMES?

Do you personally feel better knowing that SPIKE is up and running?

Would you like to have your own SPIKE?

How about that Dodger offense?

CHRIS does it right and YUSUF just does it.

Chris Isaak has a new show on the Biography Channel. It's been on for about five weeks and if you like music and small talk with major musical personalities then you will love this show. Each show is an hour and could go much longer because of the format. Chris chit chats with a guest and then they either play a song with or without him and then they chit chat some more and then play another song and after three or four of those sessions the show is over...and it always seems over much too soon.....and that's the best review I can give.

Besides being extremely talented...Chris appears to be a really nice guy.

Last week the show got kinda personal for me because Chris's guest was Yusuf Islam.

Chris introduced him as Yusuf, which apparently is the name he will be using during his latest incarnation.

The names in his past

STEVEN GEORGIOU
CAT STEVENS
USUAF ISLAM
and now
YUSUF

I CAN OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE THAT THE REASON I WROTE THE CAT'S WIND HAS FINALLY COME TO PASS

THE ENTERTAINER, FORMALLY KNOWN BY THREE NAMES AND NOW KNOWN BY ONLY ONE....YUSUF....HAS REENTERED THE MAINSTREAM OF MUSICVILLE, EARTH.

HE IS SINGING AND PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME and apparently Islam doesn't have a problem with that....hopefully.

The rumor, I heard for years, was that Islam followers were not allowed to play an instrument and sing at the same time....which would make someone like Yusuf rather obsolete.

He tells the story about how his oldest son brought a guitar into the house and how everything just unfolded from that moment on.

What he didn't mention was an unsold script, THE CAT'S WIND, about Cat Stevens being kidnapped by two college students and then deprogrammed in Northern Scotland and a very cool double ending.

I guess he had other things on his mind.

Please keep in mind that when I finished the script, Sean Maximilian McAlevey was 13 years old (1992) and he told me, after reading it, that I should find Cat Stevens and let him read it. He thought he would love it and maybe even help make the film.

What a simple solution to film making.

FIND THE PERSON WHO MOTIVATED THE STORY AND THEN MAKE THE FREAKING MOVIE

Back to the infamous NOW. All I ever wanted was Cat to do what he does best and I didn't care what name he used. That was my total motivation behind writing the story and while watching Chris Isaak interview YUSUF....I found myself taking a very deep breath and relaxing.

I realize that YUSUF had been slowly reemerging himself into the music scene but until this interview I was always worried that it would be a temporary dealio.

I BELIEVE IT'S NOT TEMPORARY AND NOW THE QUESTION ARISES

CAN HE CREATE SONGS THAT STAND WITH HIS PREVIOUS CREATIONS?

THAT MIGHT BE IMPOSSIBLE....but at least we get to hear him try. At the same time he seems more than willing to share his previous works....and that might be enough for anyone who remembers how important his music was in the early 70's.

Kudos to Chris Isaak and I look forward to watching his show on a regular basis. It's on a 7 pm Thursday nights....Biography Channel.

Odd time for a great show....but with all the shows I like being canceled....BOSTON LEGAL, ELI STONE, JOAN OF ARCADIA and COP ROCK....I'll settle for an odd time. Plus the Biography Channel replays the show throughout the week at different times.

LOOKING FOR TROUBLE or a new beginning

Somali pirates vow to hunt down, kill American sailors

US freighter evades pirate hijacking off Somalia AFP/US Navy/Ho/File – A file US Navy photo of Somali pirates making an escape back iinto Somali waters. Pirates off the coast …

MOMBASA, Kenya – Somali pirates vowed to hunt down American ships and kill their sailors and French forces detained 11 other brigands in a high-seas raid as tensions ratcheted up Wednesday off Africa's volatile eastern coast.

Pirates fired grenades and automatic weapons at an American freighter loaded with food aid but the ship escaped and was heading to Kenya under U.S. Navy guard.

The Liberty Sun's American crew successfully blockaded themselves inside the engine room — the same tactic that the Maersk Alabama crew used to thwart last week's attack on their ship. They were not injured in the attack Tuesday night but the vessel sustained some damage, owner Liberty Maritime Corp. said.

One of the pirates whose gang attacked the Liberty Sun said Wednesday his group was specifically targeting American ships and sailors.

"We will seek out the Americans and if we capture them we will slaughter them," said a 25-year-old pirate based in the Somali port of Harardhere who gave only his first name, Ismail.

"We will target their ships because we know their flags. Last night, an American-flagged ship escaped us by a whisker. We have showered them with rocket-propelled grenades," boasted Ismail, who did not take part in the attack.

The French forces launched an early morning attack on a pirate "mother ship" after spotting the boat Tuesday with a surveillance helicopter and observing the pirates overnight.

A "mother ship" is usually a seized foreign vessel that pirates use to transport speedboats far out to sea and resupply them as they plot their attacks. The ship was intercepted 550 miles (900 kilometers) east of the Kenyan city of Mombasa.

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT SOMALI IS ATTEMPTING TO GO THE ROUTE OF JAPAN AND GERMANY

THAT ROUTE BEING THE ONE THAT GETS YOU WIPED COMPLETELY OUT BY THE UNITED STATES SO THAT YOU CAN START FROM GROUND ZERO

OBVIOUSLY THE GOVERNMENT OF SOMALI HAS A BIGGER PLAN IN MIND BY NOT TRYING TO STOP THE PIRATE MOVEMENT IN THEIR COUNTRY.

I'M PRETTY SURE THERE IS NO ONE PERSON ACTUALLY IN CHARGE OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THAT MULTIPLE FACTIONS ARE INVOLVED.

THIS REALLY SOUNDS LIKE A JOB FOR SUPERMAN and SPIDERMAN

DOES ANYONE HAVE CLARK KENT AND PETER PARKER'S CELL PHONE NUMBERS?

HOME OPENER

Even though the official Major League Baseball Season started last week it just never feels like the first game until your team plays at home. This year the Dodgers started on the road in San Diego and then traveled to Arizona, stopped at the Grand Canyon, took a rafting trip down the Colorado River, ate lunch at the El Tovar and managed to win four of their first seven games.

They did show some signs of being rather odd at times....like pitching Jonathan Broxton, their closer, with a ten run lead....but then again the Dodgers have always shown a proclivity toward the arena of oddness.

They also scored a run on a play Sunday in Arizona that Vin Scully said he had never seen. Too detailed to explain but check it out if you have an interest in such things.

The Dodgers are in a division that appears to be wide open so that means that have as good a chance at anybody to make the playoffs. If they reach out and nab a front line pitcher during the year than that will enhance their chance of moving forward during the playoffs.

The offensive part of their team might be the best they've had in many many years. Their defense is solid and the only question is their pitching staff....which is highly unusual for the Dodgers.

I guess all the coin went to Manny and there wasn't any left over for arms. The fact that they didn't try to re-sign Derek Lowe was an indication that something was odd in Dodger town.

Of course I also wished they had re-signed Nomar....but at least he was able to stay in California.
Oakland got him for a million plus incentivites and that could be the deal of the century if he stays healthy.
I realize it's a big if but he could have helped the Dodgers in quite a few ways.

I honestly ,or hopefully, see Nomar being the manager of the Dodgers some day....but in the meantime he's still got a job doing what he does best.....playing baseball, and staying relatively close to Mia and the twins.

The Dodgers should win their division with about 89 wins and then it's just another whole world went it comes to predicting playoffs and World Series.

Of course I'd love to see them in the World Series against the Red Sox and watch a MANNY vs RED SOX NATION confrontation but that might be asking for too much.

IT WOULD BE SPECTACULAR........kind of like TIGER VS PHIL yesterday at the Masters.

GOOD STUFF even though neither of them won. They made the back story exciting and usually it's only the front runners who get air time.

TIGER is not the only player on the tour but sometimes it feels like that.

How great would it be to play Augusta.....just once with three friends?

Does anybody have Arnold Plamer's cell phone number?

While I'm waiting for that number......let's play some
baseball.

All my Eggs in ONE basket

I make a point of not just ridiculing people who still adhere to the principles of Christian ideology...instead I try to ridicule ALL ORGANIZED RELIGIONS....but deep down inside, because of 12 years of Catholic schooling, I have a special area designated for the organization behind the formulation of my youthful indoctrination.

I'm wondering how the Egg and the Rabbit dealio came into being to the point of dominating a day that is the cornerstone of the Christian belief system.

I'm starting to wonder if there is another entire story here that has been overlooked.

TIME
33 AD
TWO DAYS AFTER JESUS WAS CRUCIFIED
PLACE
Small 3 bedroom house just south of Mt. Calvary
WHO
Small group of friends and family gathered to celebrate the life of Jesus

As they sit around trying to make sense of the tragic episode that took place two days earlier, one of the friends....probably Thomas...suddenly comes up with an idea.

THOMAS
"Why don't we get some eggs from the barn and paint them with bright colors and then hide them all around Herod's house so when he wakes up over the next few days there will be a rotten smell....and then when he finds the colorful eggs he will be extremely confused and will wonder if it's special sign from GOD."
MARY THE MOM
"That would seem like a waste of good food Thomas."
THE OTHER MARY
"Maybe we could paint plastic eggs and that would really confuse the situation"
JOSEPH
"What's plastic?"
THE OTHER MARY
"See....it's already working."
JOHN
"We could really mess with people if we convinced them that eggs could come from a giant rabbit."
ELMER( just a friend)
"That's a good one John...you always come up with the wackiest stuff dude."
THE OTHER MARY
"I think we should wait a few years for the egg idea because I have a sneaky feeling something rather huge is going to happen tomorrow."
JAMES
"You always get the inside scope of big stuff Mary.....can you give us a clue? Is it about Jesus?
THE OTHER MARY
"All I can say is that rotating Sunday Mornings during early April will be a very important day in the future for millions and millions of people."
JUDUS
"I need to go take care of some personal business."
MATTHEW
"What's plastic?"
SIMON
"I'm not feeling like a rock."
MARY THE MOM
"You will when you change your name to Peter."
PHILIP
"Let's get back to this egg thing for a minute...I think it sounds like fun to paint eggs and hide them."
ANDREW
"That sounds silly Phil....who in their right mind would think that hiding painted eggs would be fun?"
JOSEPH
"Seriously....what's plastic?"
THE OTHER JUDAS
"I bet the kids would like it....and it could take their minds off the bad thing that happened to Jesus."
THE OTHER MARY
"I think you are all going to feel different tomorrow.....let's all meet at the tomb at daybreak and just see what happens. I'm pretty sure the world will never be the same."
THOMAS
"Can I bring some painted eggs and a big rabbit?"
THE OTHER MARY
"Whatever Thomas....but I doubt that you will have time to do all that."
THOMAS
"Why does everybody always doubt me?"
SIMON
"You think I should change my name to Peter?"
JAMES
"We could call you Peter Rabbit."
THE OTHER MARY
"That's another story for another time....but imagine talking rabbits"

AS A GROUP THEY ALL SAY

HUH????????????
AT THE SAME TIME

And somehow what we celebrate today started with that small dinner party.

Always keep in mind that everything big started with one small thought
at one single moment
on one short day

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW
BUT
I
BELIEVE
ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING
IS
POSSIBLE

And that's the cornerstone of what millions and millions of people celebrate today as their children sneak around the backyard trying to find colorful eggs with candy and money inside.

I simply wonder if Jesus wonders how the egg and rabbit dealio became so big?

But I've always had high expectations that laughter is plentiful at the next level

I do know we could use a little bit more here from time to time.

HAPPY EASTER

What's worse

Obviously I feel the pain of Nick Adenhart's family. I truly understand exactly how his father feels. The Angels have had some strange deaths in their history but the one that happened on opening day might be the strangest of all.

Car accidents happen all day every day and people die in car accidents every day of the year.

FANS DON'T DIE WHILE ATTENDING OPENING DAY and yet that's exactly what happened to BRIAN POWERS age 27 from Buena Park.

BRIAN POWERS didn't die in a car accident at Angel Stadium. He was blindsided from behind by someone and fell and hit his head. Yes he was involved in a fight, but the third party who cold cocked him and the person he was fighting with...both took off and left him to die.

BRIAN POWERS is not a professional baseball player but I can pretty much guarantee you that he has family members who are as devastated as anyone in the Adenhart family.

Vin Scully, the Dodger broadcaster, made quite a statement during the Dodger/Padre game yesterday regarding the death of Nick Adenhart.

"If I've learned one thing....and I haven't learned much...I've learned that you can't waste your time trying to figure out life."

PRETTY HARSH AND FATALISTIC WORDS VINNY....and truthfully probably not your area of expertise.

Please note that Vin Scully is one of my favorite, if not favorite, personalities of all time. I've grown up with his voice and he has comforted me and entertained me more times than I could ever explain.

It appears that Vinny might be a bit short on the SOUL AWARENESS DEVELOPMENT issue and that makes sense because he has had an extremely charmed life.

I just think he could have possibly made a statement that might have leaned a bit more to the HIGHER ROAD.

HE HAD A CHANCE TO LET ALL DODGER FANS THINK ABOUT THE BIGGER PICTURE....
IMAGINE IF VIN SCULLY HAD SAID THE FOLLOWING NEO-ILLUMINATION

"NO ONE CAN DESTROY THE TRUE NATURE OF ANY CREATURE
GOD HAS CREATED."

BRIAN POWERS AND NICK ADENHART are bound togehter in a very strange manner.

THE OPENING SERIES OF THE 2009 BASEBALL SEASON
One a fan and one an Angel
but both
on a new field of play
and both
with nothing more to physically say

I'm sorry to disagree with you Vin...but I think it's a perfect time to ask questions about life and
why
and
how
and
who
and
what
and
when
and
where

IS LIFE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN?

OR

IS THERE A MUCH LARGER ANSWER
?

We all get to select which one of those questions we wish to embrace

And that's a reason why Vin Scully, with his Catholic upbringing, would benefit from reading NEO-ILLUMINATIONS

I PROUDLY SELECT THE SECOND QUESTION TO PURSUE and I have a sneaky feeling that Nick and Brian's families feel exactly the same way....

or at the very least....I PRAY THAT THEY DO....because the second question leads to answers while the first question just leads to a big fat

HUH????????

My heart goes out to the families of both young men.

KURT was SEAN'S FAVORITE

By Patrick Oppmann
CNN

SEATTLE, Washington (CNN) -- The park bench facing Lake Washington is covered with flowers, poems, a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes and graffiti.

Fans leave flowers and mementos in honor of Kurt Cobain near his Seattle home.

Fans leave flowers and mementos in honor of Kurt Cobain near his Seattle home.

"I miss your beautiful face and voice," one dedication reads.

"Thank you for inspiring me," says another.

"RIP Kurt."

Fifteen years ago Wednesday, at a house adjacent to the park, Kurt Cobain's dead body was discovered by an electrician.

The Nirvana frontman, 27, had committed suicide, police later ruled, killing himself with a shotgun while high on heroin and pills.

His death ended a battle with hard drugs and added Cobain to a long list of legendary musicians, such as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, whose careers were cut short by their addictions.

ALL THREE OF THEM 27.....Elvis was also 27............around the neck.

Cobain's ashes were reportedly scattered in a Washington state river and a New York Buddhist temple.

Nirvana band mates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl eventually formed other bands. Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, stayed in the limelight with an acting career and legal problems surrounding her own drug problems. Frances Bean, the couple's daughter, has largely lived outside the public eye.

What was unclear when Cobain died was whether the music Nirvana created would endure or fade away like the grunge craze it helped to inspire.

"At point I thought, 15 years on, no one would really know who Kurt Cobain was outside of a group of diehard fans," said Jeff Burlingame, a Cobain biographer who grew up with the musician in Aberdeen, Washington, and knew him when he was a teenager who, without a place to sleep, crashed on mutual friends' couches.

But Nirvana's music endured, and Cobain even found fans in his hometown of Aberdeen, which he had derided as a small-minded town.

"The old-timers who were there when Kurt was around really took offense to some of the things he said about the area, so they had no real reason to honor him," said Burlingame, who co-founded the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee.

A famous son is a famous son, though. Now, visitors arriving in Aberdeen are greeted with a sign that reads "Come As You Are," after a famous Nirvana song.

Cobain Memorial Committee members, who include Cobain's paternal grandfather, hope to establish a community center in the late rocker's honor that would give area youth a place to play music and pursue artistic interests.

A concert will be held Friday in Seattle to honor Cobain and raise money for the center.

When Cobain died, he left behind a fortune that was estimated in the millions....but it seems to have been misappropriated by the people who handled the business matters of his life.

IT STILL SEEMS WEIRD TO ME THAT KURT DIED TWO MONTHS AFTER SEAN

I PERSONALLY NEVER GOT THE GRUNGE DEALIO BUT I DID READ SOME LYRICS BY MR. COBAIN THAT I THOUGHT WERE PERTINENT TO THE TIMES

THE FACT THAT SEAN LOVED HIS MUSIC IS ALL THAT COUNTS...and picking the name NIRVANA as a band name
is beyond cool

CATO

I spent some time on the CATO INSTITUTE web site....this is the organization who took out the full page ad in LA TIMES stating that Global Warming wasn't happening.

It turns out a few other things aren't happening

SECOND HAND SMOKE is a complete fabrication and in fact cigarette smoke is actually good for your heart and your lungs....and your liver and your kidneys.

DRIVING WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL is not a problem and sometimes you get home without killing somebody.

EATING RED MEAT is good for the colon and without a consistent diet of red meat you would become a vegan and God knows where that leads.

AN ABUNDANCE OF LEAD AND MERCURY IS RECOMMENDED FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

WATCHING TELEVISION 12 to 15 HOURS A DAY is the best way to stimulate the human brain.

HAVING MULTIPLE SEXUAL PARTNERS keeps you young at heart. And especially if you have unprotected sex with strangers.

SKY DIVING IS THE MOST EXCITING THING TO DO if you buy a parachute from a second hand store and don't check it before jumping.

COCAINE is very good for the heart because it makes it beat faster....in fact if you snort cocaine, drink alcohol and then have a whole bunch of cigarettes you might discover Nirvana.

READING is not good for the imagination and reading classic literature.. like MOBY DICK etc..... can make you sterile.

CONSUMING TOO MUCH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES can cause Alzheimer's

GIVING YOUR MONEY TO A FRIEND WHO PROMISES 25 PERCENT RETURNS helps stimulate the economy.

THE CATO INSTITUTE is really an interesting group

NO GLOBAL WARMING
that sure makes me feel better.

ROCKETS TO THE NORTH

As reported from CNN

SEOUL, South Korea (CNN) -- North Korea launched a long-range rocket on Sunday in what U.S. and South Korean officials deemed a provocative act.

A recent satellite image shows a rocket sitting on its launch pad in northeast North Korea.

While the United States and South Korea confirmed the rocket launch, the payload of the rocket remains unclear. North Korea has said the rocket was to carry a satellite into space, but the United States, South Korea and other nations fear it could be a missile with a warhead attached.

"With this provocative act, North Korea has ignored its international obligations, rejected unequivocal calls for restraint, and further isolated itself from the community of nations," U.S. President Barack Obama said in a statement after the launch.

"We will immediately consult with our allies in the region, including Japan and (South Korea), and members of the U.N. Security Council to bring this matter before the Council," Obama added. "I urge North Korea to abide fully by the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council and to refrain from further provocative actions."

The council scheduled a meeting for Sunday afternoon after Japan's representative to the United Nations, Yukio Takasu, sent a letter requesting an urgent meeting in response to the launch.

A senior Obama administration official in Washington confirmed that the rocket did clear Japan.

Japan's chief Cabinet secretary told reporters after the launch that the country's military was not forced to intercept any missile, which it had pledged to do if necessary. Preliminary data show that two objects, likely boosters from the rocket, apparently fell around Japan, one in the Sea of Japan and one in the Pacific Ocean.

The rocket -- launched at about 11:30 a.m. local time Sunday (2:30 a.m. GMT) -- was a "provocative act in violation" of a U.N. Security Council resolution on North Korea's weapons program, Fred Lash, a State Department spokesman, told reporters.

An October 2006 resolution condemned North Korea for missile launches in the summer and a nuclear test that same month

VIN SCULLY ANNOUNCED THE LAUNCHING DURING THE DODGER SPRING TRAINING GAME AND MADE IT SOUND LIKE EVERYBODY SHOULD BE EXTREMELY NERVOUS.

SOUTH KOREA AND JAPAN ARE PROBABLY VERY VERY NERVOUS

I, on the other hand, am much more concerned about the Dodger pitching staff.

Sorry world....but Baseball season officially starts tomorrow and nothing ever seems as important as the beginning of baseball season.

I'm glad I have it in my life and if you don't care about Baseball then you should move to North Korea.

Does anybody have Kim Jong's cell phone number?

IMPORTANT

Sign our petition and help us protect the future of one of our country’s most iconic national parks - the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon

Sign our petition - today! You would think it’s a no-brainer. Do not expose the Grand Canyon or the Colorado River to radiation contamination.

Yet today, there are more than 1,000 uranium mining claims within five miles of Grand Canyon National Park.

Please sign our petition and help ensure these disastrous plans are never put into action.

Mining for uranium this close to the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon could devastate tourism, which produces over half a billion dollars for the economy and could allow toxins into the most critical source of drinking water in the West, leading to water contamination for nearly 30 million people.

Not to mention the devastating impact this would have on the eco-system of one of our most iconic national parks.

The Sierra Club has joined forces with our coalition partners to fight in our nation’s courts to protect the Grand Canyon. And a bill has been introduced in Congress that will force the Interior Department to withdraw mining leases around the Park - but we need your help to ensure that it passes.

That’s why I am asking you to please, take action today and help us work with Congress to put a stop to these proposals.

You can join the fight to keep the Grand Canyon - and the waters of the Colorado River - safe for future generations. But we have to act quickly. Please sign our petition today.

P.S. Help us put the pressure on Congress to protect the Grand Canyon from the dangers of uranium mining - sign our petition today.

THIS SEEMS LIKE A OBVIOUS THING TO PREVENT.....ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER WHAT THE URANIUM IS NORMALLY USED FOR....AND ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER HOW MANY OF THOSE WEAPONS ARE ALREADY IN STORAGE.

COULD SOMEBODY EXPLAIN WHAT ELSE URANIUM IS USED FOR BESIDES NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS?

I'M MORE THAN WILLING TO LEARN

IF YOU CAN'T THINK OF OTHER THINGS THAN THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS TRY TO REDUCE THE CONTAMINATION OF THE COLORADO RIVER

SIGN THE FREAKING PETITION
