The season starts today

In my mind when Vin Scully does his first baseball game of the season...the season actually starts.

That will take place today in Arizona.....the first official day of spring.

He is 82 and this is his 60th season talking to us about the Dodgers and Major League Baseball.

We obviously had a little scare the other day when Vin had to go to the hospital after falling down and hitting his head. If he starts talking like it's the 1955 World Series then we will know there's a problem. Not a big problem, mind you, because we don't really care what he talks about as long as he keeps talking.

There actually should be a weekly reality show with Vin simply telling us stories about things he has seen on and in the ballparks of life.

The people of Los Angeles, who listen and watch Dodger baseball, have been truly blessed since 1957 because of the presence of Vincent Edward Scully.

And today starts another year of listening to the one Dodger that we really care about. Players come and go, as do coaches and managers and yes, even owners....but VIN SCULLY is the rock that holds the entire package together.....and wraps it in the most eloquent verbal bow that anyone can imagine.

Play Ball!

Just wondering

Trying to figure out the Health Bill....and constantly listening to people who seem to know exactly what is in the 2500 page bill. Do you think that anyone who is going to be voting on the bill has read the entire thing? I realize they have people who have people who let them know the important points, but it seems that all the GFG (goofy fox guys) know everything that the bill includes....because they are constantly telling their listeners that it's all bad.

I don't listen to those guys but I have family members who are glued to their crap....and they tell me that everything in the bill is bad....because that's what Glenn, Sean and Bill say.

I'll be extremely honest and simply say........I just don't get it.

But on Sunday a vote will take place and there's a strong possibility by Monday there will be a bill.

Since I'm one of those socialist bastards who thinks there should be a public option....I will be disappointed by the bill.....but at least something will have gotten done.

I realize that Medicare will be taking a hit....and I'll be curious to see how big that hit is.

Other than that I don't know the actual details of the bill and I challenge anyone out there who claims they do.

EXPLAIN.....please!

IGNORING the facts and figures

A few weeks ago I wrote about the danger of the GFG (Goofy Fox Guys) talking about Global Warming as a theory instead of a fact. The idea of my piece that day was based on using the word "theory" in the discussions regarding the potential problem.

Fox News and Fox commentators have a following, and in reality the actual numbers aren't that large but their viewers seem to be well organized.

On Friday Gallup announced the results of a recent poll concerning Global Warming.

1.012 people, 18 and older, were polled by land line phone calls between March 5 and March 8 of 2009.

And the results are more than interesting and a little bit scary.

Page:12

From www.gallup.com

PRINCETON, NJ -- Although a majority of Americans believe the seriousness of global warming is either correctly portrayed in the news or underestimated, a record-high 41% now say it is exaggerated. This represents the highest level of public skepticism about mainstream reporting on global warming seen in more than a decade of Gallup polling on the subject.

41% say it's exaggerated!

Since 1997, Republicans have grown increasingly likely to believe media coverage of global warming is exaggerated, and that trend continues in the 2009 survey; however, this year marks a relatively sharp increase among independents as well. In just the past year, Republican doubters grew from 59% to 66%, and independents from 33% to 44%, while the rate among Democrats remained close to 20%.

REPUBLICANS ARE INFLUENCING THE INDEPENDENTS!

Notably, all of the past year's uptick in cynicism about the seriousness of global warming coverage occurred among Americans 30 and older. The views of 18- to 29-year-olds, the age group generally most concerned about global warming and most likely to say the problem is underestimated, didn't change.

AT LEAST THE FUTURE LEADERS ARE STAYING FOCUSED!

Republicans over 30 are really stubborn!

My fear is that by the time Fox and it's Republican warriors realize that Global Warming is a fact and not a theory....it will be too late to do anything about it.....

But that's just my theory......factually speaking....of course.

The Art of Visualization

Yesterday I wrote about a Bagger Vance moment I had on the golf course but obviously there's a much more important aspect to that story than hitting a tiny white ball.

When the concept of visualization enters into a conversation it is usually being expounded on by someone who has achieved a high level of success in their chosen field.

We don't hear too much from the non-successful person about the fact that their visualizations just simply didn't work.

You know there are people who have simply failed miserably at certain endeavors because they were lacking in talent. Watching some of those freaky auditions on American Idol you realize that having positive thoughts about your own talent, sometimes isn't nearly enough.

I realize misplaced ego has a role but that's another story.

Is there really an ART to the act of visualization? Is there a technique that needs to be explained properly and in minute detail?

Does meditation have a significant role in being able to visualize? I doubt very much if Jack Nicklaus practiced meditation while doing yoga exercises. It's widely known that he claims to have visualized every shot before executing it.

Again, a high achiever talking about visualization.

No conversations from the poor golfer who never won a tournament and lost his playing card and visualized every shot he ever made.

We need to hear from the losers and the from the people who visualize and don't succeed.

It's like the power of Positive Thinking. When a SELF-HELP guru tells you that it's all about mental attitude and anything can be achieved if you direct your positive energy in the right direction.....once again we are hearing from a successful practitioner of the process.

IS THERE A CERTAIN DIRECTION THAT IS BEING OVERLOOKED BY THE FAILURES?

Does everybody who can't achieve success in their chosen endeavor....not think positive about what they want?

There's a certain point where I have to question the reality of HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN ACHIEVE SUCCESS by the art of visualization and the power of positive thinking.

It's really easy to talk about that stuff if you are on top of your game.....whatever your game might be.

I'll interject here with the obvious.........the amount of hard work put into a goal most likely determines the outcome. And of course eliminating costly mistakes while doing the hard work is also very important.

The elusive element of luck comes into play somewhere along the road to success....but since luck is a lot like faith.....you either have it or you don't......it's hard to determine the role it plays in one achieving success.

I believe success is the ability to be able to do what you love to do......
.....and then, hopefully, other people recognize what you do and appreciate the effort that is put forth.

Most likely you need to receive financial remuneration for your efforts in order to continue the process.

Unless of course you meet someone who has a ton of scratch and they think you should just not have to worry about such mundane things.

I think it's important to let people know what you would like to achieve. For instance, if you play music or make videos.....or do both......you should have a specific plan written down and decide what level you would like to participate in, and then tell the people you love.... about your goals.

The art of visualization and the power of positive thinking are areas that create complex questions and answers.....and it just seems that the people who really talk about them are enjoying the higher levels of success.

I've decided to break that tradition and am here to announce that it can happen at any one moment to anyone person....but repeated abilities to experience success with the art of visualization must be centered in the act of reincarnation.

There's no other explanation.

Tiger Woods, in his previous lifetime, was a Ethiopian child who died of starvation before his 3rd birthday in the early part of the 20th Century.

George W. Bush, in his previous lifetime, was an idiot....some things never change.

George Washington, in his previous lifetime, had down-syndrome and was left out in the rain by his evil grandparents during the winter of 1472....somewhere along the borders of Mongolia.

Bill Gates, in his previous lifetimes, was forced to shallow five gold coins as a six year old boy, by drunken cowboys at a bar in Dodge City in 1872.

REINCARNATION EXPLAINS EVERYTHING WHEN IT COMES TO HIGH LEVELS OF SUCCESS.

NOW REGARDING ME.....

I'm pretty sure that I was involved in the destruction of a town or city in the days when plundering and chaos ruled the land.....and my specific job was to destroy the art of that culture. I burned paintings and smashed sculptures and destroyed books in order to eliminate any historical importance of those people living in that town or city.

I was an ART and LITERATURE DESTROYER.......

AND I'M PRETTY SURE I DID A DAMN GOOD JOB..........and I'm also fairly certain that I've almost paid the price.

I think I might be on the verge of breaking through to the other side and that things are about to change.

Of course that could all be due to the fact that I practice the art of visualization and positive thinking.........

I've been doing both for a very long time.

But I might have been using the wrong technique......

Do you have a technique that is fool proof? Do you have Jack Nicklaus's cell phone number?

Maybe the time frame is the trick..........not everybody gets the reward in the beginning.......or half-way.....or three quarters or ???????????

Quantum reality has particles of unreality
that sometimes make everything
seem
odd.

Do you agree?

Bagger Vance moment

Most people didn't see The Legend of Bagger Vance but in the film there was a moment when Will Smith, the spiritual guru caddy, was telling Matt Damon, the young wannabe professional golfer, how to focus on the task at hand....which happened to be the art of visualizing an important shot on the golf course.

In the film everything disappeared in Matt Damon's sight except the green, and the Flag where the ball was suppose to end up.

EVERYTHING DISAPPEARED......except the target. And Matt successfully completed the task at hand and put the ball exactly where it was intended to go.

Tuesday while I was playing golf with my Dad Bill, who is now 90, and his best friend, I had a Bagger Vance moment.

It was surreal and it was real.

It was the best shot I've ever hit on a golf course and I've been banging that little ball all over the place since I was 12.....and I really do bang it all over the place. But Tuesday I had a moment that will forever make it ok for me to continue to play the game, no matter how high my scores might be.....and yes sometimes they are higher than the night I saw the Rolling Stones at the Forum and the roof came off and we started flying through space....and the girl next to me turned into an extremely large peanut.

That was a great night......and on Tuesday there was a great moment.

15th hole.....par 5. My drive took a right hand leaning turn into the trees about 200 yards down the course. When I found my ball behind a tree I realized that I only had about a 6 foot hole in which to play in order to avoid the two trees in front of me.....and I would have to slice the ball around the trees to put it back into the fairway. I thought about moving the ball a few feet to the right, which would have given me a slightly larger opening, but since I don't cheat on the course I realized that thought wasn't going to materialize into action.

There's no point in cheating on a golf course because the only person you cheat is yourself.....and every time you cheat yourself you slice a small piece of your soul into oblivion.

I'm really trying to keep my soul as fully intact as possible.

So instead of moving the ball, I grabbed my three wood and turned to look at the small gap between the trees.

I focused on the opening and took a deep breath and suddenly
EVERYTHING DISAPPEARED......
......except for the opening. The trees went away, the fairway went away and I calmly turned to the ball, took a deep breath, looked up at the magical hole one more time and then looked back down at the ball and took a perfect swing.

I knew it was a perfect swing because I finished high and made great contact and my balance was impeccable.

The ball went through the opening and slowly started rising and turning toward the fairway and after 230 yards ended up dead center, about 60 yards from the green.

My dad's friend, whose name is also Bill, said right after I hit the ball...."that was incredible."

He was exactly right. It was incredible, and there's a very good chance that it will never happen again. Oh yeah, I'll drill another three wood from in the trees, but I'll never have another hallucination where everything disappears except for my objective.

It was a once in a lifetime moment.....I think.

I ended up three putting for a bogey 6 and then decided to remind my father,as we walked off the green, about the shot when he stopped me and said...."it's only about the score and you screwed up that hole by getting a bogey."

That was a Marine Corps reality moment.........but it made me think........and
my answer was exact and precise....."tonight when I get in bed and put my book down and turn out the lights, I will close my eyes and I will remember the moment that everything disappeared and I hammered the ball through the magical hole that was created and ended up hitting the best three wood of my life."

"YOU BOGEYED THE HOLE.....END OF STORY.....BAD HOLE......TOUGH LUCK....FORGET ABOUT IT".........said Staff Sargeant William Anthony McAlevey, 90 years young and still cantankerous as ever.

Just to let you know how things work out........sometimes.

Last night as I was getting ready to fall asleep......I finished reading my book, turned out the lights and the BaggerVance moment completely played in my frontal cortex. I hammered the ball through the hole and realized that I might never forget what happened at that precise second on the 15th hole during the early afternoon of March 9, 2010.

On the other hand I can't even remember three putting that green and the bogey is forever gone from my mind........sorta.

I know there will be no bogey's tonight when I get ready to hit the sack......just a magical moment that keeps hanging around the course of my mind.

One thing I know for sure.......it's not about the score.....it's about the moment.....unless of course you are a composer and then it's all about the score.

Thank God I'm just a simple duffer.

A few different objectives

Just in case you were wondering.

The first two ships are the largest floating vessels in the world and they generally move fossil fuels around the planet. Once in awhile they are needed to bring large animals off of King Kong's island. They are around 1250 feet long.

The third ship is the newest United States Gerald Ford class aircraft carrier and it measures 1092 feet.......and it brings a shit load of attitude.

The fourth one is the largest cruise ship....The Oasis of the Sea and it scares the crap out of giant blue whales and reduces the size of your wallet. It is 1,181 feet long.

Sail on!

ART for the mind

The Apotheosis of Washington

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Apotheosis of Washington, as seen looking up from the capitol rotunda

The Apotheosis of Washington is the very large fresco painted by Greek-Italian artist Constantino Brumidi in 1865 and visible through the oculus of the dome in the rotunda of the United States Capitol Building. The fresco is suspended 180 feet (55 m) above the rotunda floor and covers an area of 4,664 square feet (433.3 m2). The figures painted are up to 15 feet (4.6 m) tall and are visible from the floor below. The dome was completed in 1863, and Brumidi painted it over the course of 11 months at the end of the Civil War. He was paid $40,000 ($689,946 adjusted for inflation, as of 30 December 2009) for the fresco.

Brumidi had worked for three years in the Vatican under Pope Gregory XVI, and served several aristocrats as an artist for palacesand villas, including the prince Torlonia. He immigrated to the United States in 1852, and spent much of the last 25 years of his life working in the Capitol. In addition to The Apotheosis of Washingtonhe designed the Brumidi Corridors.

[edit]Symbolism

The Apotheosis of Washington depicts George Washington becoming a god (apotheosis). Washington, the first U.S. president andcommander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, is allegorically represented, surrounded by figures fromclassical mythology. Washington is draped in purple, a royal color, with a rainbow arch at his feet, flanked by the goddess Victory (draped in green, using a horn) to his left and the goddess Liberty to his right. Liberty wears a red Phrygian cap, symbolizing emancipation, from a Roman tradition where sons leaving the home and/or slaves being emancipated would be given a red cap. She holds a fasces in her right hand and an open book in the other.

Forming a circle between Liberty and Victory are 13 maidens, each with a star above their heads, representing the original 13 colonies. Several of the maidens have their backs turned to Washington, said to represent the colonies that had seceded from the Union at the time of painting. Upside down above Washington is the banner E Pluribus Unum meaning out of many one.

Surrounding Washington, the two goddesses, and the 13 maidens are six scenes lining the perimeter, each representing a national concept allegorically: from directly below Washington in the center and moving clockwise, "War," "Science," "Marine," "Commerce," "Mechanics," and "Agriculture". The perimeter scenes are not fully visible from the floor of the Capitol.

DAN BROWN'S LATEST BOOK...THE LOST SYMBOL MIGHT BE ONE OF THE MOST INFORMATIVE BOOKS REGARDING WASHINGTON D.C, THAT I HAVE EVER READ.

I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD ABOUT THE PAINTING SHOWN ABOVE AND I KNOW HUNDRED'S OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE ROTUNDA.

I highly recommend the book if you have an interest in our founding fathers and other oddities.

Now that the games are over

I've basically taken a two week break from the news because I simply love watching the Olympics and to do it correctly one has to sever most of one's media ties.

I wasn't able to be totally surprised every night, but I did a pretty good job....and the Vancouver Olympics were quite enjoyable. The United States set a record for most medals in a winter Olympics....37. And Canada got their monies worth by winning the most gold medals...14.

I think we should simply blow Russia's mind and boycott the 2014 Sochi games.

Make up a story that we are disappointed they haven't helped us in Afghanistan.

That would officially send Putin into never never land.

But seriously, Russia is the contractor for all the Nuclear stuff going on in Iran so maybe there is pressure to be applied. Where's Jimmy Carter? Do you have his cell phone number?

I just love it when religious leaders start talking about earthquakes as punishment from God. Anyone that has taken a fourth grade geography class has learned that we live on fault lines.
Mountains and islands have been formed by volcanic action and continental plate shifting, and that activity has been going on for about as long as Earth has been rotating around the sun.

Chile had a 9.5 in 1960 which stands as a record....so they aren't completely surprised when things start rocking and rolling.

President Obama needs to sign a piece of paper regarding gays in the military.

Anybody who wants to join the military should not be questioned about their sexual preferences. Once they are in the service then they will have to deal with anything that comes up among their fellow soldiers.

I thought that was one of the reasons we elected Barry. Along with the promise that each and everyone of us could get the same type of Insurance that the Senate and Congress get.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT PLAN?

I'm pretty sure I've never seen a time when people were this fed up with both parties.

It's a serious lack of trust that seems to be dominating the minds of the people and it's creating ugly waves on both sides.

Listening to Meet the Press on Sunday morning made my stomach ache. They had people from both sides of the aisle and they all sounded insane when it came to talking about the Health Care Reform bill.

By insane I mean they talk in complete circles. It's a test to figure out what they actually mean.

I realize that Will Rogers was making fun of politicians 75 years ago but suddenly it is not funny anymore.

Lobbyists control this country and until we close down their offices in Washington there will never be a clear cut answer to any problem.

For 50 years I've been listening to candidates babble on about lobbyists and their influence....and I'm pretty sure that today in Washington D.C. there are more of them then ever before.

It's a freakin pandemic of the highest order.

And one last thing....who cares if anybody filibusters?

The only one we have ever seen do it...... is Jimmy Stewart....and that worked out pretty good.

Politicians are really not in-tune with the American people and the American people always settle for something much much less then they thought they were getting.

I get this way every time spring training starts.

Where's my glove?

Top Billing

Bill Demong is 30 years old and has appeared in four Olympics. The fact that he has continued in an event that rarely gets noticed is only part of the story.
He had never won a medal in Olympic competition.

On Thursday Bill won the Gold Medal in the large hill Nordic combined.

He is the first American to ever win a gold medal in a Nordic combined event.

NORDIC combined events are dominated by Norway, Sweden and those other cold places east of New York.

It can be announced now that the United States is officially competitive in the Nordic events....except of course for ski jumping.

BILL DEMONG
JOHNNY SPILLANE
TODD LODWICK
BRETT COMEROTA

A TEAM FOR THE AGES
in an event that nobody cared about before now. Hopefully they will get to do the talk show circuit and be able to enjoy the rewards of having worked extremely hard for many many years.

Maybe they could do a song on American Idol.
