Ben really had it going on

I've been saying this for years....

WHERE'S THE BEN FRANKLIN MOVIE?

At the age of 21 he formed a group call the JUNTO. They would meet every friday and discuss all matter of things.

The following are a list of questions that were the center point of those meetings.

FROM WIKIPEDIA

The Questions

  1. Have you met with any thing in the author you last read, remarkable, or suitable to be communicated to the Junto? particularly inhistory, morality, poetry, physics, travels, mechanic arts, or other parts of knowledge?
  2. What new story have you lately heard agreeable for telling in conversation?
  3. Hath any citizen in your knowledge failed in his business lately, and what have you heard of the cause?
  4. Have you lately heard of any citizen’s thriving well, and by what means?
  5. Have you lately heard how any present rich man, here or elsewhere, got his estate?
  6. Do you know of any fellow citizen, who has lately done a worthy action, deserving praise and imitation? or who has committed an error proper for us to be warned against and avoid?
  7. What unhappy effects of intemperance have you lately observed or heard? of imprudence? of passion? or of any other vice or folly?
  8. What happy effects of temperance? of prudence? of moderation? or of any other virtue?
  9. Have you or any of your acquaintance been lately sick or wounded? If so, what remedies were used, and what were their effects?
  10. Who do you know that are shortly going [on] voyages or journeys, if one should have occasion to send by them?
  11. Do you think of any thing at present, in which the Junto may be serviceable to mankind? to their country, to their friends, or to themselves?
  12. Hath any deserving stranger arrived in town since last meeting, that you heard of? and what have you heard or observed of his character or merits? and whether think you, it lies in the power of the Junto to oblige him, or encourage him as he deserves?
  13. Do you know of any deserving young beginner lately set up, whom it lies in the power of the Junto any way to encourage?
  14. Have you lately observed any defect in the laws, of which it would be proper to move the legislature an amendment? Or do you know of any beneficial law that is wanting?
  15. Have you lately observed any encroachment on the just liberties of the people?
  16. Hath any body attacked your reputation lately? and what can the Junto do towards securing it?
  17. Is there any man whose friendship you want, and which the Junto, or any of them, can procure for you?
  18. Have you lately heard any member’s character attacked, and how have you defended it?
  19. Hath any man injured you, from whom it is in the power of the Junto to procure redress?
  20. In what manner can the Junto, or any of them, assist you in any of your honourable designs?
  21. Have you any weighty affair in hand, in which you think the advice of the Junto may be of service?
  22. What benefits have you lately received from any man not present?
  23. Is there any difficulty in matters of opinion, of justice, and injustice, which you would gladly have discussed at this time?
  24. Do you see any thing amiss in the present customs or proceedings of the Junto, which might be amended?

I'M REALLY THINKING THAT I SHOULD BE ATTENDING THIS TYPE OF MEETING..........maybe not every week, but once a year might be nice......or once a month.

THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE I KNOW THAT SHOULD ATTEND THIS TYPE OF MEETING EVERY SINGLE DAY OF EVERY SINGLE MONTH OF EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

And anybody who even casually has spent time reading about Benny has to wonder the same thing I do.

WHERE IS THE BEN FRANKLIN MOVIE?

The man had it going on even when he was a kid.

It appears that Richard Dreyfuss has grown into the role.......do you have his cell phone number?

BEN IS SO MUCH MORE THAN A HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL....but I will admit that thousands of Ben's at one time......would be a special hoot.

MAYBE THEY COULD MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT BEN AND CHARGE $100 DOLLARS WITH 90 PERCENT OF THE MONEY GOING TO CHARITY.

Now that's a Benjamin Franklin idea!

Beatitudes of Women

Beatitudes of Women

was created on May 17 2010.

The creation was truly a serendipitous synergetic experience generated through the minds of two long time friends. Thomas Joseph Sullivan commissioned his friend Michael Timothy McAlevey to create a piece of artwork with the original Beatitudes as the center piece. The artwork was to be presented to Tom’s sister Pat, who had made the incredible decision to be ordained a Catholic priest.

While finishing the original Beatitudes, Michael questioned the 9th Beatitude and discovered he wasn’t the first to have that stumbling reaction. He decided that the 9th one should be specifically dedicated to women and called Tom with the idea.

Five hours later Tom had created The Beatitudes of Women.

The artwork on each piece is original and the wood is specially designed and created for Hiromi Paper International

Numbers that should be remembered

Since we are spending a huge amount of our "conservation/ecological" concern focused on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill...I thought it might be a good idea to remind you of another potential ass kicking disaster that is waiting in the wings.

And this disaster could make the oil spill look like a splinter.

These facts and figures are supplied by the
LOS ANGELES AREA NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT COALITION
www.laandc.org

THE UNITED STATES HAS 9,400 NUCLEAR WEAPONS
THERE ARE 23,300 IN THE WORLD

THE UNITED STATES HAS SPENT MORE THAN $5.5 TRILLION TO DEVELOP
OUR NUCLEAR ARSENAL

IT COST MORE THAN $52 BILLION A YEAR TO MAINTAIN THE ARSENAL

IN ONE YEAR THE MONEY SPENT TO MAINTAIN THE ARSENAL COULD BUY 84 MILLION HOMES WITH RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR ONE YEAR

MY QUESTIONS ARE.....

DO WE REALLY NEED 9,400 WEAPONS TO ACT AS A DETERRENT?
WOULDN'T 2000 BE OK?

DO WE HAVE ANY REAL IDEA WHAT RUSSIA IS DOING TO PROTECT THEIR ARSENAL?

WHY DOES INDIA HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND 600,000,000 PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TOILETS?

WHY DOES JAPAN HAVE 55 NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS BUILT ON TOP OF A VOLCANIC MOUNTAIN RANGE?

I do realize that economics seems to be the answer to any question regarding both Nuclear and Oil drilling situations.

WHAT ISN'T UNDERSTOOD IS THE ECONOMICS
AFTER SOMETHING GOES WRONG.

THE COST OF FIXING A OIL SPILL DOESN'T EVEN COMPARE TO THE COST OF FIXING A NUCLEAR DISASTER.

RADIATION CLEANUP MAKES OIL SPILL CLEANUP SEEM LIKE A WALK IN THE PARK......and the creatures that are affected in the ocean are slightly less important than the creatures affected by a nuclear disaster.

and one last thing.....
the radiation problem continues for about 250,000 years.

HR-2545 is a bill called...."Nuclear Disarmament and Economic Conversion Act"

The phone number at Congress is 202-224-3121

Make a call today and let someone know that you are interested in the START Treaty being ratified.

The wind is blowing in a new direction

For my entire adult life I have regarded the Catholic Church as a rather large empty bag of wind.

Having been educated for 12 years within the Catholic Church's system, I feel it is my right to express any feeling that might arise. They did install a sense of self importance most likely due to the defense mechanisms needed while battling the nuns.

Anyway....my adult feelings toward the Catholic Church have surfaced from time to time.

The feeling that most commonly surfaces is one of........bulls..t.
Supreme Bulls..t when it comes to edicts from the head office.....or more importantly
LACK OF EDICTS

I'm pretty sure that no organized religion will ever float my boat but I do understand the need for leadership when flocks are involved and apparently flocks are everywhere. The charitable and humanitarian work being done by organized religion is obviously worthwhile, but probably pales in comparison to what Bill Gates does on his own.

The Catholic Priest pedophile situation obviously did not hinder my lack of respect for the church and most likely just added more fuel to the fire.

I personally was not sexually abused by a priest when I was growing up, but I most definitely was physically abused by nuns on numerous occasions. The worst part of those moments is the remembrance that they seemed to enjoy slapping me around and making me cringe.

I know it's time to move on and accept responsibility that much of it might have stemmed from a very smart mouth.....but Jewish kids with smart mouths became Jerry Seinfeld's while I became a closet artist who didn't admit it until halfway through his adult life.

The nuns weren't totally responsible for my late development but they sure played a part in the process.

I attended a ceremony yesterday that actually might finish repairing the animosity I've held toward the Catholic Church....even though the people involved are probably going to be considered much larger renegades than will ever appear on my resume.

It's one thing to simply turn your back on the indoctrinated teachings of your childhood.

That's easy.

It's another thing to stay in the game and change the rules.

RCWP is changing the rules instead of turning their backs....and for that they should be congratulated as well as admired.

RCWP stands for ROMAN CATHOLIC WOMEN PRIESTS....and on Saturday June 19, Partrica Sullivan Sandel was ordained a Catholic Priest in Santa Barbara.

Also attending the ceremony was a married Catholic priest and quite a few rebels from various backgrounds......but all of them most likely born and raised in the Catholic faith.

The world needs
some multiple forms of alteration when it comes to belief systems and how those belief systems get manifested on and into another person's life.

A belief system should be an individual accomplishment.....but many times it becomes a barometer on how people judge other people and how people think other people should behave.

TIME FOR A NEO-ILLUMINATION

The Universe has a system
of
order and chaos

The Human Experience is a tangent of that system
that can both
establish order
and
create chaos

BELIEF SYSTEMS DIRECTLY LEAD TO CHAOS

Acceptance
with investigation and introspection
creates
more
ORDER

THE MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE WILL ALWAYS OUTNUMBER THE KNOWN REALITIES
AND CHAOS
WILL
FOREVER
EXIST

OUR JOB SIMPLY MIGHT BE
TO
AVOID
EXTINCTION

I was tremendously impressed by the courage displayed on Saturday in Santa Barbara by people who are refusing to accept the status quo of an organization that needs to change it's very structure.

CATHOLIC PRIEST SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO MARRY

IT'S SO OBVIOUS WHAT PROBLEMS THAT FIXES THAT IT MAKES ME LAUGH THAT THE POPE HASN'T FIGURED IT OUT.

WOMEN SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE PRIESTS.

A NORMALCY ENTERS THE REALM OF REALITY WHEN THIS IS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN AND LOGIC AND LOVE BECOME COMMON PLACE.

LOGIC AND LOVE SHOULD ALWAYS BE PRESENT
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO THANK
GOD
FOR
THE
GIFT
OF
CREATION.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH CAN BEGIN TO HEAL TREMENDOUS AMOUNTS OF PAIN AND SORROW WITH TWO THESE SIMPLE GESTURES.

PRIESTS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO MARRY
WOMEN SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE PRIESTS

It's important to note that the reason Priest were not allowed to be married was due to property right questions after a married priest would pass away. Priest were married in the Catholic Church until the 8th Century.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS ONE OF THE LARGEST LAND OWNERS IN THE WORLD.....so that worked out pretty well for them, don't you think?

IT'S TIME TO CHANGE AND REPAIR THE DAMAGE DONE BY THAT DECISION.

IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP and realize that the wind is blowing in a new direction and that it smells like new fresh clean air filled with hints of love and compassion.

I will not be rejoining the Catholic Church anytime soon because the path I've chosen is singular.

Of course that's another story that gets discussed when
NEO-ILLUMINATION is brought up.

It's doesn't get brought that often but every time it does...... I can guarantee
a
yawn....or two.

If you are having trouble sleeping.....give me a call.

If you are having trouble believing in Catholic doctrine

Big events are in the wind

Starting tonight and running through the weekend there will be very unusual and important events taking place.

It's unusual when someone gets married to someone they've been with for many many years.

It's unusual when a women gets ordained a catholic priest.

It's unusual when a seventh game gets played in any sport.

I will cover the first two events after they take place but the third event mentioned is the focus of today's article.

Being a Los Angeles Laker fan has proven to be a worthwhile endeavor. They have not only entertained their fans with great individual talent since coming here in 1960 but they have won
10 World Championships. Combine those with the 6 won in Minneapolis and it becomes the second greatest franchise in NBA history.

That's the main story........being second in NBA history with the chance tonight to pick up one more on the greatest team in NBA history.......the Boston Celtics.

IF THE LAKERS WIN TONIGHT THEY ARE OFFICIALLY TIED WITH THE BOSTON CELTICS FOR THE MOST CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL HISTORY

I COUNT ALL TITLES....AND IN 1948 THE LAKERS WON THE NBL TITLE.

THIS IS A HUGE OPPORTUNITY AND ONE THAT I CANNOT BELIEVE IS POSSIBLE AFTER ALL THE YEARS HAVING TO WATCH THE BOSTON CELTICS DESTROY OUR HOOPS AND DREAMS.

In 1960, when the Lakers moved here, I was 14 years old and playing basketball every single day. I actually didn't stop that routine until I was about 23. Between the ages of 14 and 24 the Lakers lost seven times in the Championships.....and six of those were to the Boston Celtics.

From 1959 to 1970 the Boston Celtics won every time except 1967 and 1970. Their streak of winning 8 championships in a row is a professional sports record that most likely will never be broken.

THE BOSTON CELTICS broke every young basketball players heart for an entire decade and that decade happens to be one of the most "interesting" decades in American History.

1960 to 1970 just about covers the gamut of emotions when it comes to experiencing highs and lows.

And during that incredible time period the Boston Celtics were kicking the butt of every basketball fan in Los Angeles......over and over and over and over and over and over.

Thank God there was a team in Westwood that was dominating college basketball from 1964-1975.......I forget their name but it goes by some initials....CLUA...LUCA....something like that.

BUT COLLEGE AIN'T THE PROS and every year during the 60's it was BOSTON, BOSTON, BOSTON, BOSTON.......

I said it before but I'll say it one more time.......

TONIGHT THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS HAVE THE CHANCE TO TIE THE BOSTON CELTICS FOR THE THE MOST CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL HISTORY.

but they will still be down 9-3 in personal match ups...........that's another story to be told, hopefully, by some younger fan....in about 20 years.

TONIGHT IS OUR STORY......

THOSE OF US (manly men) THAT GREW UP IN THE SIXTIES AND EXPERIENCED EVERYTHING LIFE HAD TO OFFER AND THEN SOME.....and kept getting our asses handed to us by the Boston Celtics. The addition of female fans to the Laker experience didn't really start happening until they started winning championships.

Wilt and then Magic brought the babes and it turns out that they really actually did bring the babes.

And boy is that another story that just seems to have slipped away.

Tiger Woods is like a little baby caddy when it comes to Wilt and Magic and the ladies.

BUT I'M OBVIOUSLY GETTING WAY OFF POINT AND HAVE SOMEHOW TURNED THIS INTO AN X RATED ARTICLE......sorry.

TONIGHT THE LAKERS CAN CATCH UP WITH HISTORY and that just doesn't happen very often.

THE OPPORTUNITY IS THERE.....THE MOTIVATION IS THERE.....THE DESIRE IS THERE.....AND BECAUSE OF ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS WHO HAS EVER PLAYED THE GAME.......IT PROBABLY WILL HAPPEN.

Of course Ron Artest will need some help from his teammates but I think he will find it from the EXPENSIVE BEEF guy.

Of course there's always a chance they could lose......because they are playing a team that has dominated them since 1960.

But it is important to keep in mind that since 1980 the Lakers have won 9 and the Celtics have won 4....so basically in the cuurent era.........the Lakers are at the top of the NBA food chain.

IT JUST WILL BE SO SWEET TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT THE LAKERS AND BOSTON HAVE BOTH WON THE SAME AMOUNT OF TITLES....and then next year the Lakers can become the greatest winning franchise in NBA history....

It might not be next year but with Kobe and Phil there's a real good chance it could happen again and again and again and again.....but first let's start with tonight.

It would be so cool to get together with some of Sean's friends and watch the game.....

OH YEAH..........DONE!

GO LAKERS.....GO SEAMUS!

More sanctions for USC

The NCAA announced new sanctions this morning for USC.

1) Anyone who received a degree during Reggie Bush's Heisman trophy year has to forfeit their degree and enroll at a Community College.

2) Steven Spielberg has to return any money he made in 2004 and 2005.

3) Mike Garrett has to take back anything he said that was considered intellectual.
That actually won't be hard.

4) George Lucas has to rewrite the ending of the Star Wars saga.

5) All lawyers who received their law degree from USC from 2004 to 2006 are immediately barred from any lawsuit that deals with sports.

6) Pete Carroll has to return to USC and coach for ten more years.

7) Jerry Buss, the owner of the Lakers, has to give Kobe Bryant his unconditional release
because he played poker after attending USC football games in 2004 and 2005.

8) Pete Rose must become the new Athletic Director.

9) The tuition at USC must be reduced to $250 a year for the next five years.

The power of the NCAA is beyond belief.

THE NCAA HAS GONE INSANE!

I'm pretty sure what I'm about to say is not completely based on me being a huge USC fan.

The NCAA, which is the governing body for collegiate sports teams in the United States, has officially lost their collective minds.

USC obviously deserves to be punished if they couldn't explain to Reggie Bush what he could and could not do regarding sports agent involvement while attending school and playing football.

USC is the educator and they obviously failed to educate Mr. Bush in the process.

It makes sense to take away their National Championship of 2004 and it makes sense to take away Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy (maybe) and it makes sense to fine the school a few million dollars.

WHAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE IS PENALIZING CURRENT PLAYERS FOR SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED SIX YEARS AGO. AND PENALIZING CURRENT PLAYERS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS JUST SEEMS EXCESSIVELY HARSH AND CRUEL.

PREVENTING USC FROM GOING TO A BOWL GAME FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS IS POTENTIALLY A $30 MILLION FINE....MAYBE EVEN MORE IF PLAYING FOR TWO BCS CHAMPIONSHIPS. (TAKE ALL REVENUE STREAMS INTO ACCOUNT AND IT COULD ADD UP TO $50 MILLION DOLLARS)

DISRUPTING USC FANS FROM HAVING A NORMAL BEGINNING TO THE NEW YEARS OF 2011 AND 2012 IS AN EVIL GESTURE.

A USC FOOTBALL GAME THAT TAKE PLACE AROUND THE FIRST OF THE YEAR IS A RITE OF PASSAGE.....A WONDERFUL BEGINNING TO THE NEW YEAR AND SOMETHING THAT USC FOOTBALL FANS ARE GOING TO MISS IN WAYS THAT CANNOT BE CALCULATED.

WHAT MAKES THE NCAA THINK THAT THEY CAN CONTROL MILLIONS OF PEOPLES HAPPINESS?

IT'S FEELS LIKE THE NCAA IS MADE UP OF UCLA PROFESSORS AND THIS IS A GIANT F--K YOU FOR TROJAN FANS.

I THINK THAT THE USC ALUMNI WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THIS AND SOME TYPE OF CLASS ACTION SUIT WILL BE FILED AGAINST THE NCAA ON BEHALF OF US......

THE FAN WHO DID NOTHING EXCEPT SUPPORT AND CHEER ON A REGULAR BASIS.

WHY ARE WE BEING PUNISHED?

FINE THE SCHOOL AND SMACK REGGIE BUSH BUT DON'T BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF US.....

THE FAN WHO DOES NOTHING EXCEPT SUPPORT AND CHEER ON A REGULAR BASIS.

IT MAKES NO SENSE AND IT DOESN'T MATTER
WHAT SCHOOL YOU SUPPORT.

THE NCAA WILL BE SUED OVER THIS DECISION AND IT MIGHT GO ALL THE WAY TO THE SUPREME COURT IF THE USC LAW SCHOOL GRADUATES ARE ON TOP OF THEIR GAME.....

GAME ON NCAA......YOU'VE KICKED OFF AND NOW IT'S TIME TO RETURN THE BALL.

I don't think we'll be giving the ball to Reggie.

Oh yeah.....one other thing. I guess it's kinda obvious why Pete changed his mind about never leaving the USC job.....and why they gave $4 million dollars to an unproven college coach with a total of 7 wins in his career.

All that seems quite clear now.

Put on your glasses

http://www.flixxy.com/hubble-ultra-deep-field-3d.htm

Grab your scotch, glass of wine, bong, ice tea or whatever floats your boat and take this
little ride with the Hubble. The numbers involved must allow you to have a larger vision of the
"situation" or something's wrong with the picture.....in your mind.

Meg Whitman vs Jerry Brown is only a few months away but the importance of who becomes
Governor is really pretty small and trivial.

But of course there's always the notion that there really isn't a Hubble telescope and deep space
is actually an area in the old Yankee Stadium outfield.

USC fans have to salute John's life

John Wooden was bigger than UCLA. In fact UCLA might be ucla if John hadn't coached there.

His principles of success go well beyond sports and if politicians adopted them we would have representation that is honored, not representation that is ridiculed.

If you haven't noticed......public opinion, regarding political figures, is at an all time low......I think.

In the early days of the 20th Century great humorists like Will Rogers made it pretty clear that all politicians were crooks. But when one applies humor to a critical anaylisis than often times the public doesn't take it seriously.

The current group of satirists and political naysayers seem to either not be as funny or the targets are just too controlled by corporations to be considered humorous.

We are not laughing like we did in the past. And I honestly believe it's not just me.

I want to laugh but something's wrong with the picture.

When Bill Maher attacks it seems less funny and more serious even though it is intended to be funny....I think.

The same applies to Glenn Beck.

We either need a new Will Rogers or we need a new John Wooden to explain how to be civilized and respectful even in the throngs of intense complaining.

I'm pretty sure that is what separated John from the rest of the pack.

HE WAS EXTREMELY DIGNIFIED.

I think that's what we are missing in sports and politics....and I blame a lot of the problem on reporters for not setting the tone of civilized and respectful questionering......

(I realize that questionering is not a word but I'll be submitting it to Webster and perhaps it can be added to the 450,000 plus words in the English language)

If sports writers respected the effort being put forth by athletes and coaches....the questions would be much more intelligence and insightful. But there seems to be a lack of knowledge and a jealousy that permeates the questions from reporters.

There is no dignity involved when addressing Phil Jackson. I realize it is because he can be a bit sarcastic but when you have to listen to the same ridiculous negative statements over and over and over.....then sarcasm becomes the only outlet.

Everytime I heard anybody ask John Wooden a question over the last 20 years it always had a touch of dignity. I think back to when he was coaching and it seems to me that dignity was always the tone.

Of course after you win 10 NCAA championships it's pretty hard not to get the total respect of the scribes........BUT Phil Jackson has won 10 NBA championships and the reporters ask him questions that just seem stupid and trite. Instead of listening to his wisdom they like to ignite his sarcasm and then we, as fans, don't get the true experience.

WE GET ATTITUDE and then we develop attitude and before the dust has settled everybody has got a tude on.....

John Wooden had a way of leaving encounters with thought provocations.

He helped make the public smarter by helping make the reporters smarter.

How fortunate is Los Angeles to have had the two greatest basketball coaches in the history of organized sports.

The beauty is that we still have one and the other almost made it to 100.

The legacy of John Wooden will be covered intensely over the next few days and it's not a sad memory by any means.

All sports fans....no matter what school they support...... feel privileged to have experienced the life and times of

COACH
