Its Springtime in Kabul
Our resolve in Afghanistan is about to be tested. We've been involved in that country since Jimmy Carter canceled the American participation in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Our physical military presence has been ongoing since 2001 and every winter things calm down and then spring comes and the passes open up and Senor Taliban resumes their fair weather hostilities.
But in the last ten years there has never been a pull out time table involved....and now there is. I suspect that the Taliban will increase their efforts exponentially and at that point the United States will have to make a choice of stand up and respond or look the other way and continue the pull out.
Please note that we still have over 60,000 American soldiers on the ground.
I doubt very much if we want to give the Afghan army our drone technology but of course we all know that our military brainiacs have made horrible errors in judgement when it comes to weapons distribution.
Hopefully you haven't forgotten that we armed Osama Bib Laden when he was battling the Ruskies....and then on top of that we let the Rambo weapon loose for awhile. Was that Rambo 3 or 4?
The Taliban waited until the NFL draft was over and announced that this Sunday would begin a "monumental spring offensive to defeat the Western invaders."
We are about to find out how many US trained Afghan soldiers are actually undercover Taliban.
The ISAF, the good guys from NATO if you are reading this in Detroit, said that the Afghan people "should not fear Taliban threats." They claim that the Afghan National Security Forces have used the winter to prepare for taking over security and are ready.
We are about to find out how many US trained Afghan soldiers are actually undercover Taliban.
I realize I said it twice but it's a point that needs to emphasised.
The Taliban have named this spring's offensive calling it the Khalid bin Waleed operation. Khalid was a companion of Muhammad and was regarded as a major military figure.
The Taliban's goal is to overthrow President Hamid Karzai and establish an Islamic caliphate in Afghanistan under sharia....or better known as Islamic Law.
We are about to find out how many US trained Afghan soldiers are actually undercover Taliban.
I'm pretty sure that's the most important question being asked.....
As of today we haven't reached an agreement on how many soldiers will remain in Afghanistan after 2014.
I'm not a military mind by any stretch of the imagination but I would suspect that such a decision should be finalized somewhere around September or October....just to see how the spring and summer recreational war events pan out.
But that's just me!
Maybe we should actually call Rambo one more time.........and see how he feels.
Springtime in Kabul.....isn't it lovely and don't those poppy fields look majestic?

An answer
I should post the letter that caused this answer but I don't have his permission yet....so suffice to say that this post is an answer to somone who believes that Nuclear Energy is the answer to our energy problems and that we should build 400 more reactors around the world.
Good morning
The problem is when someone is anti-nuclear (anti-nuke) there's a bigger scorecard than those who support it.
From August 6th 1945 to April 21 2013 no form of energy has even remotely come close to killing more people than Nuclear Energy.
The amount of cancer created from nuclear radiation is impossible to determine because its generational and that means genetic damage to your children's children....and beyond......because Plutonium has a half life of 24,000 years
THE SCORECARD OF NUCLEAR ENERGY INCLUDES ALL STATISTICS RELATED TO THE SCIENCE OF SPLITTING AN ATOM
THE WASTE BY-PRODUCT OF THAT EVENT IS THE PROBLEM
The amount of free energy contained in nuclear fuel is millions of times the amount of free energy contained in a similar mass of chemical fuel such as gasoline, making nuclear fission a very dense source of energy. The products of nuclear fission, however, are on average far more radioactive than the heavy elements which are normally fissioned as fuel, and remain so for significant amounts of time, giving rise to a nuclear waste problem. Concerns over nuclear waste accumulation and over the destructive potential of nuclear weapons may counterbalance the desirable qualities of fission as an energy source, and give rise to ongoing political debate over nuclear power.
THE DUMPING OF NUCLEAR WASTE INTO THE OCEAN, WHICH WAS PREFORMED ON A REGULAR BASIS BY THE SOVIET UNION, JAPAN AND GREAT BRITAIN IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN UP, AND THE TIDES ROLL IN AND INSECTS, BIRDS, FISH AND MAMMALS DIGEST IT AND THEN WE DIGEST THEM AND WHAT MIGHT DEFORM YOUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN DOESN'T SHOW UP FOR 50 YEARS AND BY THAT TIME EVERYBODY WHO WAS YELLING (in either direction).....IS ALREADY DEAD.....AND IT'S THEIR PROBLEM NOT OURS.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY, IN THIS PARTICULAR AREA, IS NOT TO US,.....IT IS TO FUTURE GENERATIONS.
My problem is I've read Dr. Alice Stewart and Dr. Helen Caldicott....and when one considers how much disinformation has been utilized by supporters of Nuclear Energy from the very beginning then it's not a level playing field.
Did you know that in late 1945 US Army surgeons issued a statement that all people in Japan that expected to die from radiation effects had ALREADY DIED....AND THAT NO FURTHER PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS DUE TO RADIATION WERE EXPECTED IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS.
THESE TYPE OF STORIES GO ON AND ON AND ON......BECAUSE THE MAKING OF WEAPONS WAS THE PRIMARY REASON FOR BUILDING REACTORS AND PUBLIC INFORMATION WAS DEFINITELY NOT PART OF THE PLAN.
ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND THE ONLY REASON WE HAVE NUCLEAR REACTORS IS BECAUSE WE NEEDED SOMEPLACE TO MAKE NUCLEAR WEAPONS.
WHEN ONE STOPS TO CONSIDER THAT 100 ABOVE GROUND NUCLEAR TESTS WERE CONDUCTED BETWEEN 1951 AND 1963
IN NEVADA........WITHIN A HUNDRED MILES OF LAS VEGAS......ONE HAS TO ACCEPT THAT MAKING WEAPONS WAS THE PRIMARY GOAL AND THE HEALTH OF THE AMERICAN POPULATION WAS NOT EVEN CONSIDERED. THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY ONLY DETONATED THE BOMBS WHEN WINDS WERE EASTERLY. FUCK PEOPLE THAT LIVED EAST OF NEVADA....BUT THEN ON CERTAIN OCCASIONS.......
THE WIND SHIFTED AND THAT'S WHY I GOT A THYROID TUMOR AND YOU LOST YOUR HAIR....AND THE DODGERS CAN'T FREAKIN HIT WITH MEN ON BASE.
IT'S ALL CONNECTED DUDE. I DON'T MAKE UP THE RULES
but back to the waste issue......
From various reports
A Global Guide to Nuclear Weapons Production
Cost and Consequences of U.S. Nuclear weapons since 1950
Nuclear Wastelands
etc.
THE ESTIMATED CLEANUP COST OF WEAPONS PRODUCTION IS BETWEEN $216 BILLION AND $410 BILLION.
ADD THAT TO THE $5.5 TRILLION SPENT ON NUCLEAR WEAPONS BETWEEN 1940 AND 1996.
WITH 435 NUCLEAR REACTORS ON THE PLANET COMES MILLIONS OF POUNDS OF HIGHLY RADIOACTIVE SPENT FUEL SITTING IN STORAGE TANKS.
THE COST OF THE CLEAN-UP, IF YOU ASSUME SOMEONE COULD ACTUALLY FIGURE OUT HOW TO CLEAN IT UP, WOULD COST MORE THAN THE INSTALLATIONS THEMSELVES.
PLEASE DON'T GIVE ME THE ARGUMENT ABOUT AMERICAN LIVES BEING SAVED BECAUSE OF THE BOMBING IN 1945.
IT'S OLD AND IT'S TIRED AND EVERYBODY ON THE PLANET KNOWS JAPAN WAS FINISHED BEFORE THOSE BOMBS DROPPED.
WE DROPPED THEM TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT WE HAD SOMETHING BIGGER AND BADDER THAN ANYONE ELSE.
THAT WAS THE GOAL....NOT TO END THE WAR.
AND IT WORKED REALLY WELL AND AMERICA BECAME THE ULTIMATE SUPER POWER.....BUT SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED AND THE GATES OF HELL WERE OPENED TO ANYONE SMART ENOUGH TO FUCK WITH THE ATOM.
WELL THEN....
THE FOLLOWING SMART GUYS GOT INVOLVED
GREAT BRITAIN
FRANCE
RUSSIA
CHINA
INDIA
PAKISTAN
ISRAEL
NORTH KOREA
IRAN
On that list is a few names that don't consider the United States to be their friend. We could teach them a lesson about Nuclear Energy and how well it works when used in the ultimate manner....after all the years of building Nuclear weapons we have accumulated thousands of those game changers. No one knows exactly how many Nukes we have but it's pretty safe to say we've got enough to fuck up everybody and ourselves.
What will happen some day when the Sun finally uses it's last rod and becomes a dwarf star has little or no concern to somebody living in 2013 unless of course you have an interest in the big picture....what's a few billion years when you believe in God?
It's a Universe awareness type interest and no one can make anyone see the big picture if what only matters is what is happening this morning at breakfast....which by the way I haven't had yet so I might have to cut this bullshit short.
I just really believe that if statistics matter than all stats must be included when discussing Nuclear Energy....and all cost have to be included. There's no number avaialble on clean up.
Hanford, Savannah River, Rocky Flats and Fernald have all been shut down and 11 of the original 17 weapons plants are declared SUPERFUND sites. CLEANING UP THESE SITES WILL RUN INTO THE HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
From 1940 to 2013 NUCLEAR ENERGY is not the answer for a healthy human experience with itself or with the planet Earth.
By the way....radiation treatment for curing illness is way behind when you add up the numbers.
The real problem is that the cork has been popped and what's spilling on the table is not something you want to lick up.
The weapons were always the number one priority and probably still are
....and that's a sad fact.
Go Dodgers,,....please....before we melt.

One above the rest
This planet, that we presently share, currently has 7 billion human inhabitants and without too much calculating I would guess there have been 107, 648, 352, 092 of us since 50,000 B.C.
Actually it turns out that a math professor friend of mine, Dr. Francis J. Conlan 111, took 5 hours to come up with this number. If you have a different number let me know.
I have trouble with any math problem that ranges outside of the ten fingers and ten toes attached to my body, so by all accounts it would have taken me 24 years to find a number that made mathematical sense.
Please always keep in mind that making mathematical sense ranks pretty low on my personal talent range scale.....right below car repairing and Olympic ski jumping.
Of the 107 plus billion people who have been on Earth I can easily say that Jonathan Winters might be in the top 5 of MFHBWL most funny human being whoever lived.
One has to consider comedy in a strange context because before 1900 the only comedy which appeared was done on stages during a performance of Shakespeare. Being a court jester during medieval times doesn't count because a poor performance resulted in a beheading and I just can't see where comedy makes any sense under that type of pressure.
For a mutual reference point it's imperative that we reach an understanding of when stand up comedians and comedic actors started to appear in a context that would allow us to record their talents.
I put that date around 1900 when things begin to take shape in the electronic reality of our awareness.
Since 1900 there has never been a funnier person than Jonathan Winters....and since the written word was the only humor before than, I can safely say......Jonathan Winters is the funniest person who has ever lived.
I don't give a sh.t what you think....but that's just my sick sense of humor.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Winters about 14 years ago when he came to a dance recital at Pepperdine University where my daughter Lily was doing something similar to what Mr. Winter's granddaughter was doing. We were outside and I introduced myself and asked him about his paintings. He took a few minutes and I'll never forget what he said...........he said the secret to great art was........was.......was..........

Hypatia
Hypatia (ca. AD 350–370–8 March 415[1]) (pron.: /haɪˈpeɪʃə/ hy-PAY-shə; Greek: Ὑπατία; Hypatía) was a Greek Neoplatonist philosopher in Roman Egypt who was the first well-documented woman in mathematics.[2] As head of the Platonist school at Alexandria, she also taught philosophy and astronomy.[3][4][5][6][7]
As a Neoplatonist philosopher, she belonged to the mathematic tradition of the Academy of Athens, as represented by Eudoxus of Cnidus;[8] she was of the intellectual school of the 3rd century thinker Plotinus, which encouraged logic and mathematical study in place of empirical enquiry and strongly encouraged law in place of nature.[2]
According to the only contemporary source, Hypatia was murdered by a Christian mob after being accused of exacerbating a conflict between two prominent figures in Alexandria: the governor Orestes and the Bishop of Alexandria.[9] Kathleen Wider proposes that the murder of Hypatia marked the end of Classical antiquity,[10] and Stephen Greenblatt observes that her murder "effectively marked the downfall of Alexandrian intellectual life".[11] On the other hand, Maria Dzielska and Christian Wildberg note that Hellenistic philosophy continued to flourish in the 5th and 6th centuries, and perhaps until the age of Justinian.[12]

I guess I wasn't paying attention in school when Hypatia was mentioned because I never heard about her until TODAY.
If I could put glasses on her that would make her the first hot librarian look in history....which as everyone knows is my favorite female look.
I'm not sure how this glasses obsession thing started but maybe some early Katherine Hephren movie got me interested.
She deserves a bit more attention in the history books.......wouldn't you agree?
And why aren't there more girls with the name.....
HYPATIA
This is another one of those Christian moments that just makes me say.....
HUH? &
WTFWYT?
