Sports Post and Moyers leaving PBS

I actually enjoy writing about sports due to the fact that there are obvious winners and losers.
Very little gray area when it comes to competition although finishing second in a PGA tournament and winning $700,000 does take the sting out of not winning.....so in that sense, there might be some gray areas and they usually center around a monetary number.

One of the reasons I don't write regular articles about sports is because there are so too many people doing it.

Back in the day we could read a factual report from one person on a game and then read Jim Murray to get a literary overview on the event. Now there are multiple ex-players waxing prophetically after each game and numerous sport experts that never played the game....letting us know what the players should have done and not done.

The present radio and media coverage of the Lakers is pathetic. Completely geared to a negative outlook no matter what they do.....and then when they win......they didn't win by enough.

I don't think the fans are spoiled but the reporters are extremely spoiled and expect way too much. They don't expect anything out of the Clippers and they get nothing. They expect the Lakers to win the Championship every year and when they don't it gets ugly.

The Lakers are the most successful franchise in the history of the Western United States.....in all sports.

If they are fortunate enough to reach the finals then that's a really great season.

Winning the championship is a huge bonus.....and they've done it 12 times in Los Angeles. Relax and enjoy the ride.....it keeps on coming thanks to Dr. Jerry Buss.

BUT ALL OF THIS WINNING DOES NOT TAKE THE STING OUT OF LOSING BILL MOYERS ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

I started to moisten up as his series ended.

There is nothing to replace his ability to interview the great minds of our time.

Charlie Rose tries but he is not even in the same league. He's got a good team and he tries very hard but Bill Moyers is Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth all tied into one superstar player in the world of investigative reporting.

I'm not sure if there's even a remote chance to replace him and that means PBS will be drifting to the bottom of the league.

I will give the new time slot a chance but that's like hoping Russell Martin will start hitting like Joe Mauer.

By the way... Kobe playing the way he did this year, with his injuries, and not getting one first place vote in the MVP race, makes me realize that he is not well liked among the media. He's a bit of a smartass and sports reporters don't like it when a player puts them in their place. And when you put one in his place then they all feel like it's happening to them.

Grow up you little baby scribes.

The real indication of how he is viewed comes down to his number 24 being the TOP selling jersey in the country.....and perhaps in the World.

Being a Ram fan I'm feeling sorry for Sam Bradford. The odd thing is I heard he was a scratch golfer, and with a bad shoulder football doesn't seem like the wisest choice. And then add the Rams offensive line to the mix and it appears that Sam might be a little loony.

How amazing that a 19 year pro golfer from Japan shoots a 58 to win a tour event in Japan on the same day that a 20 year Irish boy shoots a 62 and wins a tour event in America.

Ryo and Roy......the new tag team in golf.

It just seems a few years ago that Tiger was the kid and now he's one of the elder statesmen on the regular tour. It's a good thing he hasn't done anything wrong to affect his reputation.

The Dodgers are doing exactly what I figured......hitting but no pitching. I can't see their staff suddenly becoming dominate. But maybe they will make some kind of deal before June and the second half will prove highly successful.

One can always hope when it comes to the blue boys of summer in the land of Hollyweird......and since no World Series appearance since 1988.....HOPE is quite often all we have.

And one last thing......how can Crystal Bowersox not win American Idol? They've never had anybody like her on the show.

Oh yeah.....and where was Jack during yesterday's Laker game?

And that's a sports wrap!
