Martha Minow, former dean of Harvard Law School and Newton Minow who served as chair of the Federal Communications Commission under JFK have an op-ed piece in today's LA TIMES entitled
WHY GOVERNMENT HAS A DUTY TO SAVE THE NEWS INDUSTRY
I've written a few pieces over the last several years about the reduction regarding INVESTIGATIVE reports.
The Minows start off their article with "Only one private institution is mentioned in the Constitution: THE PRESS."
The acquisition of small papers that then get rid of their more expensive employees (reporters) is a very large problem.
The reduction of INVESTIGATIVE reporters by large newspapers, and broadcast media, is beyond a large problem....and to be truthful if no-one is doing in-depth reporting than silly things can happen like a TV GAME show host getting elected as President of the United States.
I KNOW THAT SOUNDS SILLY BUT IT'S POSSIBLE.
I'm sure the article is syndicated and I highly advise doing the research to read it.
IT WON'T TAKE LONG and it will be worth the effort.
