I've been using Bill Moyer's interviews and his "investigative reporters" to report on the last few weeks of Donald Trump's Presidency....I wanted to say failed Presidency but he kept his marriage intact so he must have done something right. I predict a new wife within 5 years.
I'm fairly certain Moyer's stories covered most of the important issues....but they seem to lightly skip over the CONSPIRACY THEORISTS that in truth are causing most of the chaos.
It used to be when crazy ideas were brought up, a few hundred, maybe thousand, people would spread the idea among family and friends and the end result was a small rumor with no traction unless of course it centered on something VERY IMPORTANT as in JFK's assassination.
Today a rumor or a conspiracy theory can be heard and viewed by millions within a single hour.....and often times even faster. And the weirder the rumor the faster it can spread....because of one simple reason....and it's not the internet. The simple truth is.....
A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WANT STRANGE THINGS TO HAPPEN....and the weirder, the better.
And when I say people I mean at least 50 million Americans.....and I can't even guess at the number of people worldwide that are just on the edge of their seats waiting for the next horrible "FACT" to emerge into their awareness bubble.
Ok....I'm going to guess.
Out of 7.6 Billion I'm thinking a conservative number of people who want something strange to happen is
2 BILLION
A person like Alex Jones (he was the idiot that said Sandy Hook massacre of 20 children and 6 adults was a left wing hoax to take away guns) has a large audience and I personally don't want to know the number but it's probably in the low millions. I know I should be aware of the total amount of people who follow him but there is a vital part of my sanity that simply REFUSES TO KNOW THE ACTUAL NUMBER.
AND keep in mind he is only ONE in a very large group of people who make up things in order to get followers who in turn buy his stuff....and the reason he and the other wackos have millions of followers is because......
A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WANT STRANGE THINGS TO HAPPEN and the weirder the better.
I was listening to Glenn Beck the other day on my way to the golf course and realized that the 3 minutes I experienced listening to him could never be retrieved. The vocal tone and the implications he pushes are no different that Alex Jones just a softer version, but a version that appeals to a less gullible person....a person who is right of center and does read and watch the news. Glenn Beck is just as dangerous but he does it in a more subtle manner. Sean Hannity falls in that category....and of course Rush has his own category.
I'M PRETTY SURE ALEX JONES FOLLOWERS ONLY LISTEN AND FOLLOW HIM.
Similar to how people follow and listen to Donald J. Trump, who by the way gets AN ABUNDANCE of information from Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Alex Jones.
Let's not forget Steve Bannon and how important he is to the Trump program.
And then last but obviously not least are the MEDIA CHANNELS that promote theories because they have an audience which now demands that news is strange and weird.
The Epoch Times
One America Network
Newsmax
FOX (even though the three above now regard Fox as too liberal)
And then according to Wikipedia the following outlets....
FAKE NEWS (click here)
If you spend some time looking at that list you will be better equipped when someone tells you something that just sounds too strange or weird you can ask.....
"WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT?"
It's amazing how many times I have asked that question over the last 4 years and never seem to get a definitive answer.
It seems that if we are tuned into the nutty sources we might be able to calmly explain that the source is unreliable....
AND THEN
START
SCREAMING
AT THEM
FOR BEING
STUPID
AND
GULLIBLE.
But first calmly ask
"Where did you get that information?"
