Arizona and Americans in Iran

FROM www.freethehikers.org

I urgently call on the Islamic Republic of Iran to release Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd on humanitarian grounds. Nine months after these three young people were detained, there is a pressing need for Iran finally to release them into the care of their loving and anguished families.

Since I last spoke on behalf of Shane, Josh and Sarah in February, their emotional state has deteriorated significantly. They are suffering from desperation and hopelessness and have considered the extreme step of a hunger strike. This would have grave consequences for their health, in particular for Shane and Sarah, who are both sick.

A nation of Iran’s stature should not act in a cruel and inhumane manner, or punish innocent individuals for the disagreements that exist with the United States. Shane, Josh and Sarah have done no wrong. Iran should act in accordance with the universal principles of justice, compassion and humanity and set them free.

Everybody seems to be vastly concerned about future racial profiling in the state of Arizona and nobody seems to care about three young Americans held captive in Iran.

I'm not sure the Governor of Arizona didn't create the law so as to bring about national dialogue regarding illegal immigration. She can't possibly believe it will hold up in the courts....so therefore I'm thinking she is just trying to bring the issue to the forefront.

The issue has so many angles and so many layers that it's almost impossible to two people to agree on the matter.

To be totally honest, I can't see a viable solution other than forcing illegals to become American citizens....which would create another set of problems for people who hire them to do the work that apparently Americans refuse to do. Once they become citizens then they wouldn't do the work because Americans don't do that kind of work.

CATCH 22 and the circle of life......

I can see pushing Iran to release the three ex Berkeley students through sanctions and possible boycotts of anything and everything they do........

Besides oil what does Iran manufacture?

In Southern California we have approximately two million illegal aliens from Mexico. Maybe we could trade a few of them for the hikers. Does Iran need some cheap labor or do they have plenty of that commodity already?

WHY DOESN'T THE AMERICAN PUBLIC MAKE A BIGGER ISSUE OF THE THREE HIKERS?

WHY HASN'T BILL CLINTON MADE A PUBLIC STATEMENT ABOUT THEIR RELEASE?

WHY IS POSSIBLE RACIAL PROFILING SUDDENLY A BIG DEAL WHEN IT HAS BEEN A CONSISTENT DILEMMA FOR MANY YEARS?

IF I'm a person who works in Law Enforcement or Homeland Security I would be looking at the people who look somewhat like the people who are hell bent on causing huge problems.....and if you say you wouldn't then I'm saying you are full of sh.t!

IF I'm a cop in South Los Angeles most of my day is probably spent checking out people who look like gangbangers. Is that racial profiling or is it just a method of making sure you don't die on the job?

IF THE DRUG CARTEL MURDERERS OF MEXICO SPILL INTO ARIZONA AND AMERICAN CITIZENS START DYING LIKE IN JUAREZ, THEN THE SOUND OF PROTEST WOULD GO BEYOND OUR WILDEST EXPECTATIONS.

IF THOSE THREE HIKERS DIED IN AN IRANIAN JAIL....PEOPLE WOULD RISE UP AND START SCREAMING FOR RETALIATION.

I'm simply suggesting that the screaming should start before someone dies.....and maybe that's what the Governor is trying to do in Arizona.

Like I said before......she must know that the law will not hold up in the courts so what's her real deal?

I wish the hikers had gone to ASU instead of Berkeley. They would have had a pretty ballsy Gov on their side.......Arnold doesn't seem to give a rats ass about them.

I think this might be an issue Jerry Brown can jump on.

Nice way to launch his campaign.

I think I'll contact his office today and make the suggestion.....and maybe you could take a minute and do the same.
