JESUS, BARACK and JOHN

I just finished reading a book called AMERICAN SAVIOR.

AMERICAN SAVIOR by Roland Merullo
Publisher Algonquin Books, August 2008
What if Jesus suddenly appeared and announced that he planned to run for President of the United States? Yes, that Jesus. And what if a well-meaning but utterly inexperienced band of disciples not only helped him mount a seat-of-the-pants campaign but ran it well, getting millions of people to support him and, in the process, throwing the two major-party candidates—as well as the world’s news media—into a frenzy as they scramble to discredit him?Roland Merullo’s bitingly clever satirical novel about politics follows the campaign of one man to bring goodness and kindness (real goodness and kindness this time) back to a country that has fallen into a divisive state of fear and hatred. Merullo takes us into the heart of “a nation in grave spiritual danger” as the Son of man sets out to make everyone realize that “politics as usual” is no longer an acceptable alternative.American Savior challenges our perceptions and beliefs while it wags a finger at the folly of our self-righteousness. It is sure to cause controversy among those for whom politics itself has become a kind of religion.

The expression that one could use at this point in time is...

HIGHLY PERTINENT TO THE PRESENT SITUATION

Roland Merullo knows how to make one think. Of course our present candidates are trying to do the same thing but they just don't cut the mustard compared to Jesus Christ of the Divinity Party.

I know that I am an idealist and I have a certain way of looking at the world in which WAR and POVERTY and GREED and VIOLENCE do not dominate our daily lives and in fact are elements of society that should simply not exist.

I KNOW THAT IS UNREALISTIC BUT I ALSO KNOW THAT IT SHOULD BE THE GOAL OF HUMAN ENDEAVORS AS WE TRY TO ESTABLISH A FOOTHOLD ON THE THIRD PLANET FROM THE SUN IN THE MILKY WAY GALAXY.

OUR HUMAN FOOTNOTE IS ABOUT 25,000 YEARS OLD IN REGARDS TO INTELLIGENT COMMUNICATION WITH EACH OTHER.

5000 YEARS OLD IN REGARDS TO RECORDING THOUGHTS ON PAPER AND OR STONE.

AND ONLY 450 YEARS IN REGARDS TO PRINTING MULTIPLES OF ANYTHING.

I AM NO LONGER A BELIEVER IN ORGANIZED RELIGION AND I'LL EVEN GO SO FAR AS TO SAY THAT I BELIEVE ORGANIZED RELIGIONS MAKE THE CREATOR LAUGH....or at the very least giggle.

BUT THAT IS JUST MY OPINION AND I CAN ( AND DO) ATTEMPT THROUGH MY WRITING TO TELL STORIES THAT SOMEWHAT EXPLAIN MY BELIEFS.

Roland Merullo's idea to have Jesus Christ run for President is a brilliant idea and not only does he give us the serious lessons but he also gives us the humor that would be involved if and when the SON of MAN, as he puts it, decided that he wanted to be President of the United States.

I seriously don't want to give away the story line but you can pretty much rest assured that a liberal idealistic human being would truly enjoy listening to the lessons of Jesus Christ as he explains how things should be different than they are.

I TRULY ENJOYED THE BOOK and highly recommend it to anyone who likes to read and to anyone who is somewhat interested in the political process.

17 days left until our election and this morning Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama. The same Colin Powell who served as Bush's Secretary of State from 2000 to 2005.

THAT WAS A HUGE ENDORSMENT AND HOPEFULLY A FEW MORE REPUBLICANS WILL STEP FORWARD AND CROSS THEIR PARTY LINE AND HELP ELECT THE APPARENT HEALER OF A BROKEN POLITICAL SYSTEM.
