It was a spectacular weekend in Beijing unless your last name is Bachman. I hate to start this piece off on a downer but Todd Bachman was just enjoying being a tourist and now a funeral is being planned.
Of course the families of the 1500 people in South Ossetia who have died at the hands of Russian air strikes don't really give a rats ass about Todd Bachman.
It's quite amazing how one story trumps another and the situation in Georgia, Russia and South Ossetia could end up completely overshadowing anything in Beijing....
And I'm little bit ashamed to admit that I had never heard of SOUTH OSSETIA until the bombs started dropping.
Putin and Bush really had different agenda's this weekend. "W" just trying to enjoy a little sports vacation and Putin trying to re-establish Russian power in an area that used to be part of what Russia used to be....
I'm pretty George had a better time but then again when someone gets to use their big toys in war moments.....their gonads probably grow pretty large and I suppose that makes Putin's weekend a bigger deal.
BUT I PROMISE YOU THAT COMPARED TO JASON LEZAK'S, PUTIN'S GONADS ARE tiny.
Jason Lezak was responsible for the most amazing swimming race I've ever seen.
I think it's very hard to make up distance in the water if you are not something that lives in the water and Jason Lezak achieved historical recognition by making up distance on one of the world's fastest swimmers from France.
IT WAS MY FIRST UP OFF THE COUCH MOMENT IN THE 2008 OLYMPICS
and while I hope and pray there will be more
it might be hard
to top that moment.....but then again this is the
OLYMPICS
and
GREAT THINGS are suppose to happen.
NOW let's talk about JOHN EDWARDS.......
ok....let's not.
I'd rather talk about Katie Huff and Sergio Garcia
TWO APPARENT LOSERS IN THE EYES OF THE MEDIA
KATIE HOFF LOST A GOLD MEDAL BY 7 100TH'S OF A SECOND
and I'm not even sure that's how you say it.....4:03:29 TO 4:03:22
AND
SERGIO GARCIA won $670,000 by finishing second in THE PGA golf tournament.
and
the reporters who talked to both of those people after their events tried very hard to make them feel like losers......It got to Katie (I think)....but SERGIO told the reporter that he had a great time and that all anyone can do is try their best and sometimes it's just not enough.
THE MEDIA HAS TURNED INTO VULTURES and it's amazing to me that people who run the Networks don't see maybe WE don't THINK the same way THAT THEY WANT US TO THINK.
MOST OF US KNOW THAT SERGIO GARCIA HAS A GREAT LIFE.
MOST OF US APPRECIATE THE EFFORT THAT KATIE HOFF HAS MADE OVER THE LAST EIGHT YEARS OF HERE LIFE IN ORDER TO SWIM FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Or do we?
I wonder how many people are saying that Katie Hoff is a loser and Sergio Garcia still can't win a major........
The only thing I do know is that the people of South Ossetia aren't worried about Sergio or Katie....because I imagine their TV reception could be interrupted but things failing from the sky.
THE DALIA LAMA SHOULD STEP FORTH AND REALLY PISS OFF THE CHINESE BY TALKING ABOUT SOUTH OSSETIA....and never mentioning the Olympics.
It is nice to see how $43 BILLION was spent by the Chinese to get ready for their big moment in the sun......even though with all the smog apparently the sun is hard to see....(that was mean spirited, but the reporters and the media have affected the way I view the world)
I'LL WORK ON THAT....
So..... the first weekend saw tremendous stories and those stories were not confined to Beijing.....I hope other regions of the world don't start getting weird just to offset the scope and size of China's finest moment.
I do know that the Backman family and friends will have a problem remembering the 2008 Olympics as anything but a horrible time in their lives....but then again I don't know the people

NO HUMAN BEING CAN DESTROY THE TRUE NATURE OF ANY CREATURE GOD HAS CREATED
