Emerson, Whitman etc and The Gospel of Thomas

We (the famous collective we) get so caught up in our current mental exercises that we very often forget to re-introduce ourselves to the masters of Literature. I like to emphasis American writers because....well I'm an American....and I write.....so thus I have an identity issue.
I use the term re-introduce because most of us were required to do some reading of these gents while in school.....but to be truthful if I was required to read Emerson I can promise that it was only a poem or two, and the same goes for Whitman.....
Shakespeare was strongly emphasized as were Twain and Steinbeck....and perhaps a little Poe and of course Dickens.
But I really feel that Emerson and Whitman were overlooked....and under booked.
Reading that generates wisdom is rarefied air.
From what I've been able to determine......the invention of Television has truly helped promote the lack of reading in America. I'm mostly referring to the age brackets between the ages of 10 and 45.
Certain people have referred to this phenomenon as the "Dumbing up of America."
If people are not reading the master works then what's the chance of anyone reading the Gospel of St. Thomas....which in my opinion might have greater ramifications than all the wonderful literary works throughout history.
I realize that is a LARGE statement but when you think about the MIND CONTROL EXHIBITED BY THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH and THE OTHER COLLECTIVE CHRISTIAN ENTERPRISES over the last 1600 years and the effect that they have had on civilization...then the appearance of a GNOSTIC GOSPEL that might truly contain REAL statements from Jesus of Nazareth....is a very important piece of work.
Statements, by the way that totally contradict the basis structure of organized religions......ALL ORGANIZED RELIGIONS.

UNDERMINING THE STRUCTURE OF ORGANIZED RELIGION IS FUNDAMENTAL IN THE PROCESS OF ACQUIRING WISDOM.

UNDERMINING THE STRUCTURE OF ORGANIZED RELIGION....ON A PERSONAL BASIS.....IS THE FIRST STEP

AND THUS A PERFECT TIME FOR ANOTHER NEO-ILLUMINATION
"some organizations, by their very nature, must discourage individual
enlightenment and behavior
especially when the enlightenment and behavior centers on
spiritually directed growth"

If you are a person that has no religious indoctrinations then you can skip right ahead to Plato, Shakespeare, Emerson, Whitman, Twain, Dickens, Steinbeck and anyone else who never could even imagine the existence of that infamous reading killer technology known as.....The Television.
But if you believe that organized religions are the only path to having a relationship with the Creator of the Universe.....then you need to read the Gospels of Thomas....first.
Have a nice read.
