THIS WAS A TRADE SHOW??????

THERE WAS A TRADE SHOW THAT TOOK PLACE OVER FOUR DAYS LAST WEEK IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES AT THE ABU DHABI EXPO.

THEY CALL IT THE INTERNATIONAL DEFENSE EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE
OR IMEX WITH THE WORD DEFENSE BEING THE CATCH ALL WORD

THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE WORLD HAVE TRULY LOST THEIR MINDS

I THOUGHT AT THE VERY LEAST ONE HAD TO USE CORRUPTION, DECEIT, SABOTAGE AND BRIBERY TO OBTAIN WEAPONS OF THIS SIZE AND SCALE....BUT LO AND BEHOLD I FIND OUT THAT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS REGISTER AND GET A DAY PASS.

I'VE BEEN TO TRADE SHOWS AND WHEN PEOPLE WALK UP WITH A BUSINESS CARD THEY GET A PASS.

Imagine the business cards that were floating around that show.

I wonder what kind of professional women they had brought in? Probably just borrowed some from the Sheik's or Prince's harems....which were obtained earlier from the HOT KIDNAPPED WOMEN'S TRADE SHOW IN DECEMBER....also held at the same convention center.

TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN BY WEAPONS OF THIS SIZE AND SCALE JUST SCROLL DOWN THE LIST BELOW.

IMAGINE THE INVENTORY THAT DIDN'T MAKE THIS LIST....WHICH WAS ONLY AVAILABLE BEHIND CLOSED CURTAINS IN THE BACK OF A BOOTH.

THE BOOTHS AT THIS TRADE SHOW HAD TO BE KILLERS.....AND BELIEVE ME...THERE IS NO FREAKING PUN INTENDED WITH THAT COMMENT.

IT'S A FLAT OUT FACT

KILLER TOYS FOR SALE AT A TRADE SHOW......and they claim they did $4.6 Billion dollars in deals.

Facts and figures on the show.....maybe you will want to get a booth next year and sell your Tesla Death Ray?

I think Ironman had a booth......oh I mean Tony Stark.

************
from the broken things,
I need to make something

broken glass,
words –
unspoken
doomed?

still,
from so long ago,
still I see these burning mountains,
burning mountains dreaming,

I can still smell a burning cigarette,
I still walk in smoldering circles
in an empty, stolen house
full of everything that everyone –
everything that everyone stole from me

and did you know that
you can break tiny, innocent things?
you could break them

you can draw out
slowly, ever slowly,
letter by sad letter,
a goodbye in wet concrete,

and you can come back
and you can approach solemnly,
piously,
its enduring ruins,
and you can claim
new allegiances and make
new promises that smell still bitter,

and you can break them,
those tiny, innocent things –
such tiny, such innocent things that
stand now proudly,
now defiantly,
over these broken goodbye ruins,
and ask for nothing more
than to be able to protect this proving
burn, this scar, and this mark
because it says, undoubtedly,
it speaks without telling:
he is gone, he is gone

yes, things,
no matter how tiny, how innocent
can be broken into little pieces that
feel no longer a thing,
not a thing, but perhaps,
the quivering of an old sting

I SMELL THE GRASS

The smell of fresh cut grass is running through my nose and settling deep in my heart and since I'm taking a beta-blocker it's really nice to know that the beginning of major league baseball is still part of my annual routine.

Personal annual routines have a way of disappearing when your heart stops working...or in my case when your heart works too fast.

I'm happy to report at this moment in time, on February 26 2009, my heart seems to be beating at a normal rate of around 60 beats a minute. Considering that four months ago it was averaging about 140 beats a minute, this present situation is quite positive. It doesn't mean I won't have a stroke but it does mean that the problem with my heart can start to fix itself......because I was told by the doctors that if I had a regular heartbeat (60-65) the problem was repairable.

Spring Training has a way of healing most winter blues.

BASEBALL HAS A WAY OF HEALING EVERYTHING

Well...maybe not everything. I can't imagine how it can help the economy on a large scale but it does allow a very large part of the population to focus on something they love other than the pressing problems of a nation trying to recover from whatever that was taking place between 2000 and 2008.

I personally think, even though I will never be able to prove it, that Dick Cheney set the tone for America during the last eight years. Everybody knows about his influence on the White House but very few people understand how his attitude could depress the entire country.

I'M SORRY BUT IT'S NIXONesque IN SCOPE. It's probably hard to imagine that one person's personality could affect the entire nation but DICK CHENEY is an asshole and I believe the important decisions that came from the Oval Office over the last eight years came from the heart and the mind of the REAL DICK.

THAT FACT THAT BOTH NIXON AND CHENEY ARE DICKS IS JUST TOO FREAKING STRANGE.

IF WE EVER ELECT ANOTHER DICK TO ANYTHING OF IMPORTANCE WE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF OURSELVES.

Boy....to think a few minutes ago I was excited about Spring Training and now I am totally pissed off about Dick Cheney really proves how sinister he was.

But maybe once the season gets under way I will be able to finally put the Real Dick behind me and move forward but I have a feeling it might not be that easy.

If the Dodgers sign Manny that might help.
If the Dodgers sign a quality starter that might help.
If the Dodgers hired Nomar as a player coach that might help.
If the Dodgers brought back Ross Porter that might help.
If the Dodgers signed Ron Fairly to replace Charlie Steiner that might help.
If the Attorney General of the United States indited Dick Cheney for war crimes that might help.

IT JUST WON'T GO AWAY.....I PROMISE TO STOP TALKING ABOUT THE REAL DICK FOR AWHILE JUST TO HELP THE HEALING PROCESS.

Hopefully the out of sight out of mind dealio will start working soon.

Hopefully Baseball will really help me and help America get back to having a good season.

AMERICA NEEDS A GOOD SEASON and having a good manager should really help.

PLAY BALL!

THE CHANGE IN SPEECH MAKING IS REMARKABLE

For eight years we listed to speeches by a man that generally did not enjoy making speeches. He might have dug being President but George was never comfortable telling us what his opinion was regarding national and global situations.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO MEN IS STUNNING.

I'm not about to say that Barack can figure out the present economic mess but listening to him explain it...at least gives me hope that he might be able to figure it out.

I will be withholding judgment on his performance but in the meantime Barack Obama should give a speech everyday until we are tired of hearing him speak.

JUST KEEP TALKING BARRY SO THAT WE CAN ERASE ALL MEMORIES OF THE CRAP WE'VE HAD TO LISTEN TO OVER THE LAST EIGHT YEARS.

THE DIFFERENCE IS STUNNING
THANK GOD
FOR
THE
DIFFERENCE

And the attitude of the American public, when the person in charge can speak with elegance and insight, WILL improve.

AND ATTITUDE AND PERCEPTION ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and can lead to increased productivity.

I realize that's an extreme shortcut to recovery but when there is a good coach the team always plays better.

Only time will tell how good the new coach is.......but in the meantime he gives great halftime speeches and I am excited and quite relieved that the previous coach is looking for a job in a hardware store.

AN ECONOMIC BANKING HERO

Following information gathered from article by Borzou Daragahi in LA TIMES story on 2/21/09
**********

Trying to find responsible people within the global banking community?

Look no further than your quaint little country of LEBANON.

Riad Toufic Salame is the governor of Lebanon's central bank and basically holds the same job as our Federal Reserve Chairman.
The bottom line....LEBANON BANKS HAVE HAD ONE OF THEIR BEST YEARS EVER....and their savings accounts yield a solid 6%

And it's not like he didn't know the ropes and just got lucky. He worked for Merrill Lynch for 20 years before becoming the central bank governor 15 years ago.

An odd side-bar issue about this story is that for years Lebanon was considered to be one of the major money laundering countries of the middle east.

One of the primary things Mr. Salame did was to issue a rule that prevented Lebanese banks from lending more than 70% of their deposits.

LEVERAGING is the problem and attempting to "create credit ratings" from LEVERAGING is a huge problem in the long run.

And it appears that the long run has arrived.....

....but it has not arrived in Lebanon thanks to the caution and awareness of Riad Toufic Salame.

Perhaps the World Bank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citi Bank should hire Mr. Salame as a consultant....but I doubt that Lebanon would allow that type of "harmonious intervention" with the global banking community.

He does drive to work in an armored plated BMW so there's that reality check regarding.....life in Lebanon.

ARMORED PLATED BMW.....wow....that really is a reality check.

If I was GM, Ford or Chrysler....I would immediately offer him an improved version with their special armored plated Cadillacs, Lincolns and Mini-Vans.

WOW that was quick

When one can make a complaint and that complaint gets immediate response than the Universe is working in one's favor. Of course the Universe granting favors can be a very temporary matter so no one should get too excited when it happens.

Yesterday I wrote and bitched that the new California budget included a .12 per galleon gas hike tax....and then this morning I wake up and read the details of the Budget and lo and behold the gas tax was not included.

The explanation was that BAIL-OUT money would be used instead for the area originally intended to be satisfied by the gas tax.

But apparently (to my complete surprise) VOTERS will have some say in the Budget and a special election has been created on May 19th.

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HOW THAT PUPPY READS

Think about all the past propositions and how the wording completely attempted to confuse. I can't imagine how a ballot will read with the entire weight of a California State Budget resting in our hands.

I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THE BUDGET WAS SOMETHING TO BE CREATED BY THE PEOPLE WE ELECTED TO RUN THE STATE.

Little did I know.

MY PREDICTION FOR MAY 19TH

THE SPECIAL BALLOT ON MAY 19TH WILL HAVE THE LOWEST VOTER TURNOUT IN THE HISTORY OF CALIFORNIA.

I HOPE I'M WRONG

BUDGET GETS PASSED AND WE GET GASSED

I can't believe that part of the new California budget includes a 12 cent a gallon gas tax increase.

AND AN INCREASE ON AUTOMOTIVE REGISTRATION?

IS THIS THEIR WAY OF GETTING US OFF THE STREETS?

Couldn't they have added 50 cents more on beer......or another dollar on smokes.

AND JUST IMAGINE IF CALIFORNIA DECIDED TO GROW POT AND SELL IT...THE REVENUE WOULD BE HUGE

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WOULD HAVE A STROKE BUT THEN AGAIN THEY WANT US ( the states) TO BE CREATIVE..... SO PASS THAT BONG ALONG AND LET'S REALLY GET CREATIVE!

I THINK THAT THE PEOPLE WE'VE ELECTED ARE IN A MAJOR RUT and last week I shook hands with our gov....and told him to work harder on the Budget and he told me to ......

"just
relax...and take it easy."

HUH??????

Maybe he thought I was dangerous or maybe he just thought I needed to relax....
had I known about the 12 cent gas tax hike I would have really made him nervous.

CREATIVITY IS DEFINITELY NOT A PART OF THE POLITICAL SYSTEM.....THANK GOD JERRY BROWN HAS THROWN HIS HAT BACK IN THE RING....

WE NEED HIM......

WHO IS THE DICKHEAD IN THIS VIDEO

First let me state quite clearly that I am a huge David Letterman fan. I don't watch any of the other late night shows unless of course Reese is going to be on.....

I watched the Joaquin Phoenix interview last night and there's no doubt in my mind that David was being a complete asshole.

Yes Joaquin has some issues but anybody who follows show business knows that fact. The other possible answer is that Mr. Phoenix is Bi-Polar and God only knows what's going to happen when he puts himself in those situations.

I can figure out fairly easily that he was contractually obligated by the studio to promote his latest film.

If I was Joaquin I would simply not agree to promote any future film and from all indications it looks like there might not be any future films....so problem solved.

David needs to take some nice medication and chill back when doing interviews with people who just aren't comfortable with the format.

Mr. Letterman was being a dickhead but I'll be taping his show again tonight and that's the end of that tune.

Out

Currentlly out of town trying to sell some art...which in the present state of economy...is a lot like having a monkey fly out of my ass.
I watched Saturday Night Live last night and the opening remarks were focused on Barack's first press conference.
I missed it and I wished I had seen it but the big thing I missed was the Jouquin Phoenix experience on David Letterman.
I'm going to download it and watch it but apparently Mr. Phoenix is having some problems.

But I would like to meet somebody who isn't having some problems

THE BIGGER PROBLEM

Since the first caveman talked his neighbor into giving him a turkey leg for a moonbeam...there have been scam artists. Some have risen to incredible levels of accomplishment but we won't get into the Bush years right now...even though the most recent noteworthy con was done under George's watch.

The individual con artist or scam artist has always existed and the truth is they will always exist.

It's up to each one of us to follow the ole adage....if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

BERNIE MADOFF turns out to be a prolific con artist but we have a much BIGGER PROBLEM than an individual trying to scam other individuals out of their life savings.

It turns out that the SEC....Security and Exchange Commission...had been responsibly warned as far back as 2000 about Madoff and over the next 8 years never acted regarding the continual ripoff.

THIS IS THE MAJOR PART OF THE STORY AND YET IT'S ALL ABOUT BERNIE MADOFF.

THE SEC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR APPROXIMATELY $43 BILLION OF THE $50 BILLION THAT MADOFF SUCKED FROM HIS CLIENTS.

ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT THE SECURITY AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION HAD NOBODY WHO COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE BEING TOLD BY FRAUD INVESTIGATOR HARRY MARKOPOLAS?

I have to believe that when someone gets hired by the SEC they most likely have a college degree and I would then assume that within those hired employees there had to be numerous accountants, lawyers and business majors.

DID THE SEC HIRE ONLY PEOPLE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CLASS?

IT APPEARS SO...AND IT APPEARS THAT PERHAPS I'M UNDERESTIMATING THE ABILITY TO CONTROL REGULATION IMPLEMENTATION BY THE SIMPLE ACT OF....BRIBERY.

IF BRIBERY IS INVOLVED IN THIS CASE AND IT IS DISCOVERED THAT PEOPLE WORKING FOR THE SEC WERE TURNING THEIR BACKS BECAUSE THEY WERE INCREASING THE SIZE OF THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS, THEN WE REALLY REALLY REALLY HAVE A BIGGER PROBLEM.

EVERYONE SHOULD READ ALL THE DETAILS REGARDING THE MADOFF SCAM...AND PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE LACK OF RESPONSE BY THE SEC.

The fact that Bernie took Sandy Koufax to the cleaners shouldn't really matter because Bernie is probably a Yankee fan and all's fair in love and war when it comes to the Yankee/Dodger rivalry.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS...BECAUSE THE SEC WAS IRRESPONSIBLE IN THIS MATTER...THAT SOME OF THE BAIL-OUT MONEY SHOULD GO TO THE VICTIMS.

THE SEC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALLOWING $43 BILLION DOLLARS TO BE STOLEN FROM CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES.

IF EACH PERSON WHO GOT RIPPED OFF COULD RECEIVE ONE-HALF OF THEIR LOST THEN IT WOULD SOMEHOW HELP TAKE THE STING OUT OF US THINKING THAT THE SECURITY AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION IS A PLACE WHERE SCANDAL, BRIBERY AND DECEIT ARE ALLOWED TO EXIST.

So we are only talking about $21.5 Billion....and my guess is by the time all the victims learn about the SEC ignoring the facts of this case....the lawsuits against the SEC will amount to much more than $21.5 Billion.

THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OPERATION OF THE SECURITY AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION.

IF THEY AREN'T....THEN WE'VE GOT MUCH A BIGGER PROBLEM THAN A SCAM ARTIST CAVEMAN NAMED BERNIE MADOFF.

RENT INCREASE

STORY FROM CNN

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan – Kyrgyzstan is still in talks with the United States over a key U.S. air base that the Kyrgyz president wants closed, the country's prime minister said Thursday.

Lawmakers earlier decided to delay until next week a vote on a plan to close the Manas air base, which is an important element in the U.S. and NATO military campaign in Afghanistan.

The delay appeared to give the United States additional time to persuade Kyrgyzstan to back off from the closure decision announced Tuesday by President Kurmanbek Bakiyev. Kyrgyz officials previously had said the closure decision was irreversible.

Prime Minister Igor Chudinov did not give details, but said "We are in the process of negotiations with the Americans."

Bakiyev announced this week his country had decided to close the base, shortly after securing billions of dollars in loans and aid from Russia. Moscow resents the American presence in a country that it regards as part of its traditional sphere of influence.

Kyrgyzstan has repeatedly complained the United States is paying too little to lease the base. But Chudinov ruled out suggestions that the closure decision was connected to Russia's $2 billion assistance package.

"Talks on Russian aid have been going on for two years, and they were in no way related to the issue of the removal of the air base from Kyrgyzstan," Chudinov said.

Chudinov also said that his government has repeatedly raised the issue of the amount of rent paid for the air base. The sums being offered for the base were not economically realistic, he said.

In a visit to the base last month, Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, said the U.S. currently pumps $150 million annually into Kyrgyzstan's economy, including $63 million in rent for Manas.

***********************

SO...WHEN YOUR RENT IS BEING RAISED FROM $63 MILLION TO...LET'S JUST SAY $200 MILLION...THEN MAYBE IT'S TIME TO FIND A NEW LOCATION.

I REALIZE THE PROBLEMS INVOLVED WITH MOVING AN AIR BASE...BUT WOW...IT WOULD SEEM THAT ONE OF THE OTHER COUNTRIES IN VICINITY WOULD BE HAPPY TO COLLECT THAT AMOUNT OF RENT.

LOOK AT THE MAP

DO WE HAVE FRIENDS AND ALLIES OR DO WE NOT?

KEEP IN MIND THAT OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE IN THIS ISSUE IS ACCESS TO AFGHANISTAN

LOOK AT THE MAP AGAIN!

I UNDERSTAND THAT INDIA WOULD BE HARD BECAUSE OF TRAVELING THROUGH PAKISTANI AIR SPACE....

BUT THAT BRINGS ME TO MY REAL POINT

IS PAKISTAN OUR FRIEND....OR NOT?

SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD BE TIME TO EXPAND THAT FRIENDSHIP...IF THERE IS A FRIENDSHIP....AND SO WHAT IF THAT INCREASE IN FRIENDSHIP PISSES OFF INDIA.

WE'VE MADE SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE A HOUSEHOLD PHRASE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT INDIA IN AMERICA THAN SINCE GANDHI DID THE EARLY FOREST GUMP WALKING DEALIO ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

IF THE UNITED STATES WANTS TO SETTLE TALIBAN ISSUES IN AFGHANISTAN THEN IT WOULD APPEAR THAT SUCCESS WILL ONLY BE ACHIEVED BY INCREASING PRESENCE IN PAKISTAN

I'M NOT A BRAIN SURGEON.....which you've already figured out...BUT THIS SEEMS LIKE A RATHER SIMPLE EQUATION.

RUSSIAN HAS ALREADY PROVED THAT FULL OUT INTRUSION DOES NOT WORK....

IN FACT.... IT MIGHT BE WHAT ACTUALLY BROKE UP THE SOVIET UNION EVEN THOUGH YOU STILL BELIEVE IT WAS RONALD REAGAN.

IF BARACK OBAMA PLANS ON TRYING TO WIN THE WAR ON TERROR IN AFGHANISTAN AND DEFEAT THE TALIBAN...THEN IT CAN ONLY HAPPEN WITH TOTAL COOPERATION FROM PAKISTAN.

IF THAT'S NOT ON THE AGENDA....then we learned nothing from the last 50 years.

RUSSIA IS PROBABLY LAUGHING THEIR ASSES OFF AND HOPING THAT WE SPEND ALL OF OUR MONEY TRYING TO DEFEAT RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS IN MOUNTAINS THAT MAKE THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS LOOK LIKE MT. CALVARY....which in reality is actually a little hill.

AND MOST LIKELY THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE RENT INCREASE AT THE BASE IN KYRGYZSTAN

which by the way....isn't that the country where Doonesbury has Duke doing his lobby thing?

THE TRUTH IS.....PAKISTAN MIGHT NOT BE OUR FRIEND....SO THAT LEAVES INDIA AND TAJIKISTAN HAS OUR LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION SITES....

CUZ THE OTHER SIDE OF AFGHANISTAN IS NEVER GOING TO HELP US....UNLESS THE SHAH OF IRAN'S DAUGHTER CAN OVERTHROW THE AYATOLLAH...and that will probably happen when a monkey flies out of my ass.

President Obama should just resign and let JOE deal with all this crap.

Could you imagine that morning news as JOE was having his first cup of joe and reading the Washington Post.

One day you have the best and softest job in the world....and VP of the United States ranks right near the top....and the next day you inherit all this bulls..t.

Oh well...Barack asked for it....and now he's got it....and he better start with having a few beers with Pakistan....oh yeah I forgot....they don't drink. But they do do heroin so there's always that angle.

Maybe that horrible drug addict Michael Phelps can get involved.

HONESTLY...the press is treating this guy like he got drunk and drove through a grammar school at lunch.

A BONG HIT!

Relax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A LITTLE POT SMOKING.....

....and by the way if he was high during the Olympics then all of America should be required to smoke pot every morning before going to work.

OH YEAH....I forgot there's no more jobs.

But the press really seems to enjoy when a SPORTS HERO can be dethroned....and I'm sure it has something to do with personal inadequacies within their own physical makeup.

LET'S ALL JUST SETTLE DOWN AND START WRITING E-MAILS TO PAKISTAN ASKING FOR COOPERATION IN DEALING WITH THE TALIBAN PROBLEM....

Oh you say that the Taliban actually operates out of the mountains in Pakistan?

WELL....THAT LOOKS LIKE A DEAL BREAKER ON THE FRIENDSHIP CHART.

so.....here's our other option.....

DEAR SLUMDOGS,

WE NEED TO TRAVEL THROUGH YOUR COUNTRY AND STEP OVER PAKISTAN...DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT? I THOUGHT NOT.

BEST REGARDS

BARACK, HILLARY and JOE.

PS. we will be sending Michael Phelps over to train anyone who wants to learn to swim. Do you guys have any pools? Oh yeah...you do have those rivers. Could you clean them up a little bit.....Michael's a stoner not a slob.

FACEBOOK IS FIVE and wondering

FACEBOOK TURNS FIVE

By Simon Hooper
CNN

(CNN)
-- A Web site started by a student as a way of staying in touch with friends celebrated its fifth birthday Wednesday as a billion-dollar business and a global phenomenon.
Around 15 million users update their statuses on Facebook daily.

Around 15 million users update their statuses on Facebook daily.

Mark Zuckerberg was 19 when he launched Facebook from a Harvard dorm in 2004. Within 24 hours, more than 1,000 of his Harvard classmates had signed up for the social-networking site and one month later half of those on campus had a profile.

Five years on, the Web site claims more than 150 million users worldwide while Zuckerberg, now 24, was named the youngest billionaire on the planet -- with an estimated fortune of $1.5 billion -- last year by Forbes magazine.

Writing in Time on Zuckerberg's inclusion in the magazine's 2008 list of the most influential 100 people in the world, Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, said Zuckerberg had created "a social network that not only reflects your life but maybe expands it."

Along with sites such as MySpace and Bebo, Facebook has also been credited with bringing social networking into the mainstream, with politicians, businesses and celebrities jumping on the bandwagon.
iReport.com: From Harvard kids to Facebooking your Mom: How have things changed?

According to Facebook figures, around 15 million users update their statuses daily. More than 850 million photos are added to the site each month while the average user has 120 friends.

Meanwhile, Web sites such as Facebook were widely credited with helping Barack Obama secure victory in last year's U.S. presidential election by helping him connect via the Internet with younger, previously disengaged voters.

In a blog published Wednesday to mark Facebook's birthday, Zuckerberg said the site offered a way of making the world more open and giving people a voice to "express ideas and initiate change."

"The culture of the Internet has also changed pretty dramatically over the past five years. Before, most people wouldn't consider sharing their real identities online," Zuckerberg said. "But Facebook has offered a safe and trusted environment for people to interact online, which has made millions of people comfortable expressing more about themselves."

In a new Facebook first, the Web site featured at last week's World Economic Forum in Davos with users contributing to live discussions and polls that were flashed onto big screens during sessions with world leaders.

Speaking to CNN, Randi Zuckerberg, Mark Zuckerberg's sister, said politicians and businesses were looking to Facebook as "a place for insight and to get a real time pulse."

Yet questions still remain about the finances behind Facebook's remarkable expansion. The company has attracted more than $200 million in investment from venture capitalists while in 2006 it rejected a reputed $1 billion bid from Yahoo!

In 2007 Microsoft paid $250 million for a 1.6 percent share, a figure that gave Facebook a total projected value of some $15 billion.

But with the global financial crisis hitting Web advertising -- Facebook's core revenue stream -- those sort of figures now appear to belong to a bygone age.

"What Facebook isn't yet is a slam-dunk success," said Adam Lashinsky of Fortune magazine last month. "It is selling advertising, it is bringing in revenue but it's not wildly profitable even if it is profitable at all.

"There is no question that it has entered the zeitgeist but that doesn't mean that it has progressed beyond the stage of being cool or viral or exciting to being a mega-business success the way that Google, Microsoft or even its arch-competitor MySpace is."

Yet in an industry prone to short term fads and rapid evolution, Mark Zuckerberg said Wednesday he remained committed to making sure that Facebook remained as relevant in the future.

"Building and moving quickly for five years hasn't been easy, and we aren't finished," he said. "The challenge motivates us to keep innovating and pushing technical boundaries to produce better ways to share information.

I'M PERSONALLY AMAZED THAT MOST PEOPLE I TALK TO, THAT HAVE FACEBOOK ACCOUNTS, DON'T KNOW WHO STARTED IT. WHEN YOU ARE 19 AND CAN WRITE AN ALGORITHM THAT CAN BE PATENTED AND IS SOCIALLY REVELANT....THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER.

I find it hard to believe that something which is used consistently 15 million times a day and has 150 million subscribers....will not find a way to survive....and I'm very curious to know what Randi (sister) looks like.

It's just a personal face thing and since this is about Facebook.....yadda, yadda yadda.

15 and 15 and 15

15 years old
15 minutes a day that I don't think about him....maybe
I get the feeling that people are through listening to my take on Sean's LEVEL CHANGING experience of 1994
but
I also have total resolve regarding NEO-ILLUMINATIONS and fully believe
that everything I really think about the LEVEL CHANGING experience of 1994
is covered in that project.

But then again I'm still trying to accept the fact that I'm one of those few unlucky fathers who has lost a teenage son.

IT'S A RATHER SMALL FRATERNITY...and it's a fraternity that I wished did not exist.
I don't want to belong to it but in truth I don't want anyone to belong.

BUT I DO
and
that's
that
