HARRY and the story

I just finished the final Harry Potter book, which was borrowed from Laura....who happens to be 18.

When she started reading the "franchise" she was 9 and has basically attended Hogwarts along with Harry, Ron and Hermoine.

I've read all seven but instead of identifying with Harry and his buds, I gravitate more towards the older Wizard dudes and various fathers and mothers that seem to shape the story lines.


I think I read that 25 million books sold, globally, in the first week. I'm pretty certain most of those 25 million read Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows within the first week....and since it took me about five days to read it, I guess I fall in the quick read catagory.



Often times when I have a really well written story, I like to limit the amount of pages I read at any one time just to make the experience last as long as possible.


J.K. Rowling has a true talent for making one turn the pages and try to absorb as much as possible, in as short a time as possible.


I think the expression "a page turner" applies to the Harry Potter series. Of course this last one has a special feel because it was the last one.....or was it?

Like with most things in the media world, that are successful, everyone wants more. I realize that seven is quite a few....but how about just one more....or maybe two...or?

After all it's already 19 years later and that crazy 22 year reoccurring Hruoclous Curse is just around the corner.....you know the curse that says no Dark Lord can return before 22 years if he's been completely blown to smitterens......

Oh there's always more....when there's a good story to tell......

WHAT IS THE DELAY?

Ga. High Court Hears Consensual Teen Sex Case
(CBS News) ATLANTA The courtroom was packed with supporters and cameras Friday as Georgia's top justices heard arguments over whether a young man serving a 10-year prison term for consensual oral sex with a fellow teenager should be freed.The long punishment spurred angry protests and led the state to change the sentencing law. A state judge in June ordered the young man freed, but because of an appeal by the state attorney general, Genarlow Wilson remains behind bars.

There are (at least)two questions that must be asked

WHY WASN'T THIS HEARING REPORTED IN LA TIMES?

WHY HAS NO DECISION BEEN MADE REGARDING THIS MATTER?

I had to go on line to follow up on the July 20 hearing, after looking for the story in my paper, The LA TIMES every day since the hearing....and much worst than that obvious oversite is the fact that......today is July 28 and no decision has been reached in this case.

The Georgia High Court has probably been more aware of this case than most cases that get presented and the fact that eight days later there is no answer from them, really makes me wonder how goofy their legal system must be....or beyond goofy, but that's another story.

Keep in mind....this is about oral sex between a 17 year old boy and a 15 year old girl. CONSENSUAL ORAL SEX.

10 YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR CONSENSUAL ORAL SEX BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE UNDER THE AGE OF 18.

There's been no report on what the girl's sentence was, but this is probably one of those times when it really is better to give than receive.

I wonder if Genarlow has a My Space site....or a Facebook page.....or a web site of some kind. I wonder if he has an e-mail address and I wonder if anyone has bought the domain name of Genarlow Wilson.com???????????????????????

So many questions.....so few answers.

JUSTICE MIGHT HAVE TAKEN A VACATION ON THIS CASE....and one of the strange revelations comes from the mouth of the Attorney General.

"If we free Mr. Wilson....we will help free the 1300 child molesters that are in Georgia prisons."

WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULD ONE THING HAVE TO DO WITH ANOTHER?

I realize that when it comes to law then precedents get set and cases are resolved from precedents...but if each and every case involves an individual then individual facts pertain and if anyone is in prison for having CONSENSUAL ORAL SEX when under the age of 18....THEN THEY SHOULD ALSO BE RELEASED.
Bu t I highly doubt that there is another case like this sitting on the books.

IF THERE IS ANOTHER CASE LIKE THIS.....THEN SOME ATTORNEY IS NOT DOING THEIR JOB REPRESENTING THEIR CLIENT.

I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANOTHER CASE LIKE THIS ON THE BOOKS IN GEORGIA.

I THINK THIS CASE STANDS ALONE AND MAKING A DECISION ON THIS CASE SHOULD NOT AFFECT ANY OTHER PRISONER.

AND IF LAW CAN'T SEPARATE FACTS FROM ONE CASE TO THE NEXT, THEN WHAT GOOD IS LAW.....ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT PARTICULAR LAW IS A BAD LAW.

WHICH IT TURNS OUT WAS A BAD LAW....BECAUSE THE STATE OF GEORGIA CHANGED THE LAW AFTER THIS CASE.

BUT DECIDED NOT TO MAKE IT RETRO-ACTIVE.

EACH PERSON DESERVES SINGULAR ATTENTION WHEN IT COMES TO HAVING TO FACE THE COURT SYSTEMS OF AMERICA.

OUR LEGAL SYSTEM IS BUILT ON THIS CONCEPT.

THE FACT THAT GENARLOW WILSON IS REPRESENTED BY AN ATTORNEY NAMED...........B.J. BERNSTEIN......adds an element to this that can't be readily explained.

Did the family of Genarlow Wilson pause just a sec..... when B.J. first introduced himself?

It had to be a moment of reflection and or......HUH?

and then the next question....how goofy is our entire legal system?

Prison terms for smoking pot
Prison terms for personally taking any drug
Prison terms for any consensual sex between adults
Prison terms for any consensual sex between two people under the age of 18

I still hear stories about Texas and people in prison for smoking pot.
But
Texas might be another country so I won't go there right now.

I read about certain laws in certain states that I'm really think are "joke bits" and then I find out that they really do exist.

ARE THEY TOO BUSY TRYING TO ENFORCE GOOFY LAWS TO DEAL WITH PRACTICAL MATTERS....SUCH AS GETTING RID OF LAWS THAT WERE IMPLEMENTED TO PUNISH THE WITCHES OF SALEM?

Contrasts in style

Sunday's LA TIMES Opinion section contained side by side articles on two contrasting styles of behavior.

On page M4 was a story about Ralph Nader and on M5 was a story about Henry Kissinger.

In my adult lifetime I can't honestly think of two more contrasting personalities, especially on the political scene.

They have both played huge roles in the historical unfolding of American policies since the early 1960's.

I will admit that Henry has had a larger influence in areas that seem to garner more interest.

I pointed out awhile ago that Henry had been visiting the White House on a weekly basis for the last year or so, but it seems that many people are still unaware that he is a regular ADVISOR to King George.

I wonder how much he charges for his services?

The other side to this story is that I would pay to hear Ralph Nader's opinion on what he thinks about Henry Kissinger being an advisor to King George.

And that's the point of Ralph deciding once more to run for President of the United States.

In the previous three attempts, as a Green Party Candidate, Ralph Nader might be the only person who made any sense.....which immediately guaranteed that he would receive 3 to 4 percent of the votes.

Making sense has never been a widely well received platform for a political agenda.

Making sense might be the most damaging platform ever designed for someone wanting to be President of the United States.

508 but.....

The Catholic Church settled with 508 people for $660 million. Those 508 people, who were abused by clergy in the archdioceses of Los Angeles, will at least have some closure...due to a large cash settlement.

What about the people who either committed suicide or who are so messed up that they don't even know that a suit was filed.

There has to be some hopeless homeless souls who have never been able to assimilate into society because of some sick priests....not to mention the thousands of people who were physically abused by Catholic nuns....even though what they did might not be sexual in nature.....it was abusive behavior.....and just down right mean.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....if those sweet docile nuns had stuck that metal edged wooden ruler up my ass.........instead of whacking me across the face....I'd be a freakin millionaire today.

But physical intimidation doesn't justify a class-action lawsuit.....but it should....and the Catholic Church knew they had a special problem with the nuns awhile back and.....zap.....they are gone.

I haven't seen a nun wearing a habit in a long long time. Of course I don't hang around places like Michael Vick....so I don't get to see really strange things.

By the way....how bored is Michael Vick that he has to get involved in Pit-Bull dog fighting?

But if dog fighting is going to exist....then Pit-Bulls are probably the right breed. I've only known a few Pit-Bulls and they were definitely wacky animals.....but so were their owners so I'm not sure where the fault falls.

The 7th and final Harry Porter book gets released on July 21 and I'll probably read it at the book store like I did number 6. J.K. Rowling created a franchise and once again proves that creativity in modern day society can indeed be rewarded.

Just don't give up the dream.....and always keep looking inside for the great story. It might come at any one moment and if it happens in a dream....wake up and make notes.

The real reason

I've been known to have a slight inclination towards the notion that perhaps I might be somewhat INTO the sport of BASEBALL.

I'm actually a student of the game.....not so much a student of the statistics, even though I value the statistics that arise from playing the game.

The game comes down to the moment.

It's the real be here now experience. Strategy can affect outcome if performance unfolds according to strategy but anyone who truly follows the game knows that strategy is just another crap shoot if the performance intended is not

I like watching great athletes try to do something extremely hard and succeed....I also like it when they try to do something extremely hard and don't succeed.

THAT CONFRONTATION BETWEEN A GREAT HITTER AND GREAT PITCHER IS TRULY WHAT THE GAME IS ALL ABOUT.

IN THE MAJOR LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME THAT WAS PLAYED LAST WEEK IN SAN FRANCISCO.....ONE MAN DECIDED THAT BASEBALL FANS ALL OVER THE WORLD WOULD NOT GET TO SEE A CLASSIC CONFRONTATION.

A CLASSIC CONFRONTATION can only takes place when a game of importance is on the line.

An All-Star game played between the National and American League....that will determine which league gets Home Field advantage during the World Series....is an important game.

Tony LaRussa, the manager of the reigning World Champion St. Louis Cardinals decided that the collective we, baseball fans, were not entitled to witness a classic confrontation.

I'll set the scene in case you were sleeping or simply don't like the game of baseball....in which case you probably stopped reading five minutes ago....

BOTTOM OF THE NINTH.....National League is losing 5-4. Bases are loaded and there are two outs. The National League has not won an All-Star game since 1996.

On the bench waiting for the perfect moment, not having played previously so that he might be available for a classic confrontation, is one of the best five hitters in Major League baseball....in fact, five years ago, Tony LaRussa, his manager then and still, said this player was the best hitter he had ever seen.

ALBERT PUJOIS is on the bench.......waiting for this moment.

On the mound is Francisco Rodriquez of the Los Angeles Angeles in Anaheim, arguably one of the three best closers in baseball....and he is rattled. He has just walked two batters and is noticeably out of sync.

45,000 FANS ARE GOING NUTS......and of course we all know that going nuts in San Francisco is a fairly common experience, but collectively having 45,000 people going nuts at the same time....is unique. BASEBALL FANS ALL OVER THE WORLD KNOW WHAT COMING.......and all of us have perked up and are sitting a little closer to the edge of our seats.

FRANCISCO PAWS AT THE MOUND....AND WAITS FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF ALBERT TO BE INTRODUCED AS A PINCH HITTER.....

FOR SOME REASON....THERE IS NO ANNOUNCEMENT and the result of Tony LaRussa's decision making policies leaves us with a good trivia question in the years to come.

and the stupidest thing about the entire experience was Tony LaRussa's answer when confronted by the media.

"I WAS SAVING HIM FOR EXTRA INNINGS."

With that comment it became extremely clear to me...that Tony LaRussa thinks everybody that watches baseball is a total freakin idiot.

I'm not going to go into detail about strategies that managers use to try and win a game.... but there is no strategy to save someone for extra innings when there is a chance to win the game in the 9th inning.

EXTRA MEANS EXTRA.......AFTER EVERYTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO TRY AND WIN A GAME IN REGULATION AND NOTHING HAS SUCCEDED,AND THE TWO TEAMS ARE TIED, THEN EXTRA INNINGS BECOME REALITY.

I SIMPLY WANT TO KNOW THE REAL REASON BEHIND THE DECISION

and knowing a little bit about Tony LaRussa and having heard rumors about him....I'm fairly certain that he not only doesn't care what I want to know but he doesn't care WHAT anybody wants to know....when it comes to his making a decision during a baseball game.

I'm sorry.....but Tony LaRussa is a dickhead.

He denied the Baseball world a classic confrontation and that makes him a dickhead and I realize name calling isn't the way to accomplish anything, but since Mr. LaRussa won't come clean and tell us the real reason...then I feel entitled to resort to name calling....and from what I've heard from Baseball people....DICKHEAD might be a very close descriptive term for him.

Point of Reference

Yesterday I slightly introduced the subject of prayer into my daily "article." I don't think I went overboard on the concept...instead simply relating how important it is to have a method of centering one's thoughts down into a calm internal moment with no interference.

However you achieve that moment is no where near as important as being able to do it....there are so many directions to reach the core of a circle....and the circle of life is not a phantom expression.

The circle of life is a broad "summary statement" used when trying to explain why one thing follows another and so on and so on.....

All things are accountable and all things seem to matter....no matter how insignificant one might think they are.....and that brings me to this point.

Racial jokes are not a form of humor but instead a point of reference.

Now, how one defines a point of reference is very important.....because a point of reference has to be applied from the originator to the recipients of the action which allows for a point of reference to be establish.

A very good friend of mine( which is a point of reference) told a racial joke in my home last night using the "N" word. The response was a slight nervous laughter and a few...."so did you see Transformers yet?"

Of course the Transformers statement was not made but the point I'm making is that the response didn't elicit laughter....it elicited a.....

I don't know very many people who ever say the "N" word so I wasn't surprised when I woke up this morning and the mist of the moment still hung in my home......it must have been hanging around because it was the first thing I thought about when I woke up, got my coffee, read the paper and tried to think about today's subject.......and after reading the paper and finding numerous topics that should be addressed...the only thing that rested in my frontal lobe was the "N" word joke.

Perhaps it suck with me because this week there was an official burial of the "N" word by the NAACP. I should have covered that story at the time but since I thought the word was already dead and buried....I didn't think much about it....until my very good friend choose to use the word in my living room.

There are so many reasons why a person uses the "N" word and I'm FAIRLY certain that none of those reasons have anything to do with....HUMOR.

It's a point of reference that I don't like to have regarding a friend of mine.

We all have to figure out why we do certain things and say certain things and what we really mean when we say certain things.

As an individual I can only truly control what I do and what I say.

I can tell someone that I don't appreciate something they said and I can ask them not to say it again in my presence. I can ask someone to respect my viewpoint and respect my environment but I can't stop them from saying or doing anything outside of my presence.

The point of reference that people create regarding their personalities cannot be changed except with another point of reference.

I believe using racial slurs is simply a matter of upbringing...and either one was taught that it had no place or one was taught to tell jokes in order to mask a certain type of prejudice.

There of course was a time when I was younger that I probably told a few of those jokes....but each time I did it....I noticed a point of reference was created and didn't like how it made me feel.

The respect that Anglo-Americans should have for African-Americans in regards to not using the "N" word is a respect that can't be earned because of someone writing a blog about it.

The respect has to come from learning, reading, understanding and empathising with the history of how African-Americans were treated in this country for 400 years.

Slavery, in America, did not happen 1000 years ago.....it did not happen 500 years ago....it did not happen 300 years ago and it did not happen 200 years ago.....THE CIVIL WAR WAS FOUGHT IN 1860

One goofy moment can off set lots of great work....and boy oh boy....haven't we all learned that at one time or another.

TEN YEARS IN PRISION .....and if one doesn't think this is racially motivated injustice then one doesn't give a shit about racial injustice and nothing is going to change regarding how one feels.

it's not ok to use the "N" word......and it's not ok for African-Americans to use the "N" word...but if anyone has the right to use it then it must be that group....

but each and every time some privialged Anglo-American uses the term.....it sounds
ugly....
and creates a point of reference that hangs around long after the moment has passed.

Important things are suppose to be happening in our lives.....in all of our lives.

The cost of doing business and prayer

Every so often I lose a few days due to having to try and make some moola. The last "article" I wrote was about LEDs and then light-emitting-diodes consumed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

I noticed this morning that Genralow's hearing was coming up on the 20th of July. I'm not convinced that anyone in the Judical system of Atlanta, Georgia has a heartbeat so it's hard for me to feel positive about his situation. I will say a few prayers for the young man.

There's also been some tense family situations and prayers might also be needed in that direction.

I told someone the other day about using prayer as a substitute for meditation and they asked me who I prayed to.........

I told them I was thinking of praying to them but that was just to keep an open mind. In truth I think I pray to the Source....even though I know there are lots of in-between entities that probably filter through the gesture. I'm not really sure how it works but I do know that at my very center is a prayer that creates calmness and serenity.

The prayer, by the way, is my prayer that took about six months to construct....about 34 years ago. When creating one's own prayer it's important to test the words and the lines. It's a feel out process that unfolds because it's allowed to unfold.

I'm really not sure what shape I would be in if I didn't have my prayer. All intrusions get silenced and all vibrations become soft.

I've only told a few people the actual words to my prayer....because it's my prayer and each and everyone needs to have their own.

It's a really good idea to honor the Creator of Heaven and Earth with words that come from one's own thought process......

I'd like to create a new language but it's too late in the game....and any way it's the thought that counts.....and since I rarely say my prayer out loud.....it really has to be the thought that counts.

And wouldn't you at least agree, that if a BEING could create the Universe then there is a very good possibly that hearing my thoughts might not be so hard to do.

I use the word IF.....but I know....

and you might ask how I know and I simply say to you my friend.......I know because I wanted to know and sometimes wanting to know something can result in answers that are truly magical.

The mysteries of the Universe far out number the known realities.....

LIVE EARTH and no LEDs

I was working Saturday on creating a brochure for our new company called Energylite Companies. I had the LIVE EARTH show on starting at 8 am and listening fairly closely to the conversations....and not so closely to the music. The Sundance Channel was broadcasting the show and Robert Redford was able to promote his new show The Green about fifty times during the day.
There were inserts from most of the well known Green personalities throughout the day. I don't really need to mention their names....JUST LIKE NOT ONE OF THEM NEEDED TO MENTION
LED LIGHTS.

NOT ONE TIME WERE LEDs MENTIONED.......

NOT ONE!

So therefore I choose not to mention the people...except for BIG GREEN AL....because after all it, was his idea to sponsor an event that might help with Global Warming.

But the fact that even BIG GREEN AL didn't mention LEDs....pisses me off a little bit.

I realize that he's trying to fry a bigger fish but nothing gets caught without the right bait. And when the ENTIRE LIVE EARTH PROGRAM was focused on REDUCING ENERGY CONSUMPTION and thus trying to cut Green House Gas Emissions......
and when THE QUICKEST AND FASTEST METHOD FOR DOING THIS IS THE CONVERSION TO LED LIGHTS.......when this amazing energy saving technology

....DOESN'T EVEN GET MENTIONED....

IT BLOWS MY MIND....

ESPECIALLY THE GREEN SECTION OF MY MIND

General Electric is pushing CFL's and therefore I boldly announce that there is a
CONSPIRACY

Congress needs to look into this situation and find out why political voices aren't mentioning LEDs...but since it's a conspiracy and those people are in the pocket of GE Lobbyists...there won't be a mention of LEDs until GENERAL ELECTRIC GETS RID OF THEIR HUGE INVENTORY OF INCANDESCENT AND FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS.......and starts selling LEDs on a regular basis.

And the cost of LEDs could drop dramatically if GE directed their energy toward SOLID STATE lighting.

Someone asked me yesterday what Solid State meant? Another person at the dinner table said...it was a brand name from the fifties. Another person chipped in with a comment about transistors....and then I answered with.."It's a semi-conductor and.....wow.....I'm not really sure what Solid State means."

I felt a tad bit stupid.....but since I've had plenty of practice in this area I simply said I will research the exact definition of Solid State and will have an answer shortly.

....except at places like HOME DEPOT who only carry GE and Phillips incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs. HOME DEPOT in CULVER CITY does not have an LED light on their shelf.

I'm working on trying to get BIG GREEN AL to mention solid state lighting sometime in the near future....considering that LEDs are the quickest and fastest way to start saving energy....you would think it would be a natural.

BIG GREEN Al, not to be confused with little Al Green, might be using this platform for a bigger purpose....even though trying to save the planet should be a large enough purpose.

But once you've held the second most powerful job in the world...it's hard not to try and move to the next level....and since he won the popular vote in 2000...I'm sure there's a very strong urge resting inside his BIG GREEN AL mind...that just won't go away.

Personally, just between you and me, I'm still a little upset with Al because ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES didn't appear very often during his 2000 campaign...and I attribute that to someone telling him that PEOPLE weren't ready for it.....

I THINK THAT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE HE MADE and it cost him the Presidency. I know there were other specific issues and questions regarding the voting irregularities....but had he been the BIG GREEN AL he is today....he would have been so far ahead that no court decision could have changed anything.

But BIG GREEN AL decided to soft soap environmental issues during the campagin and now he's trying to make up for his mistake.....and trust me...he knows that he wasn't true to his BIG GREEN AL core.

AND TODAY....07.07.07....BIG GREEN AL might be trying to make up for his past mistakes....by having one very large party with 2 billion people attending.

IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT BIG GREEN AL COULD BE SLIGHTLY EXAGGERATING? I HAVE NOTICED THAT POLITICIANS HAVE A PROCLIVITY TOWARDS THAT TRAIT...

501c3 is a non-profit charitable organization occupying the highest rung of tax-exempt groups operating as a public charity.....according to Paul Pringle, a Los Angeles Times writer.

The fact that an organization like this, that doesn't require disclosing of any information, is used to help finance political individuals....can't come as a surprise to any one who even remotely watches the political process.

The interesting part of the ARNOLD story is that he probably uses that charity as one of his tax write offs. From 2002 to 2004 ARNOLD gave $2.5 million to charities. And in that same period in showed about $55 million in income.

Everybody knows that he doesn't take a salary. I think there might be something amiss with this use of public funds for travel to international destinations, I'm also extremely realistic in knowing that the State of California doesn't have anyone who even comes close to his notoriety.....and when speaking in political terms he might easily be the most admired politician in this country.

A little flag waving promotion by a popular politician from America...in foreign countries....can't possible be a negative thing. And he never seems to put his foot in his mouth.

His traveling to foreign countries probably should be paid for by tax payers....but using a charitable organization does smell a tad bit funny....and the old saying is...if it smells like.....well you know the rest.
